all of the rain has made some of the veggie garden plants quite happy…

the tomatoes are doing well and growing bigger each day…

the peapods are filling out rather nicely and I had my first peas… from just one pod, lol…

the beans are growing up the arch but don’t have any flowers yet and the cucumbers are very slow in flowering…

I think that I may need to plant more beans and even cucumbers… sadly the butternut squash seed did not produce…

and, finally the basil has started to fill the pot;-)…

we’ve tidied up the walkway between the pond and garden and I had swept the path a few days ago…

yesterday I looked at it and discovered that it was once again covered in dirt, sigh…

as I watched the sparrows having their dust baths it occurred to me what the problem was, lol…

today I swept it again, pretty much knowing that it won’t stay tidy for any length of time…

maybe I will put down that fancy magic sand that turns solid once it has water put on it…

it will be interesting to see how the birds respond…

the clematis on the south side of the house has been outdoing itself this season… maybe it likes all the rain, lol…

I would say there are maybe a hundred buds or blossoms… and that is after two serious thunderstorms which knocked tons of petals off…

came across this photo from July, 2013…

at that point it was probably five or six years old… before this one we had probably planted five or six that all died…

nice to have the comparison as it is easy to forgot how much something has grown…

Wednesdays…

I do enjoy Wednesdays

that is the day that some lovely young men come in the morning, and within about fifteen minutes, have mowed the front and back, trimmed everywhere, blown any grass from walkways, and left;-)…

and often it is the day (usually every second week now) that Hilda the Gardener comes to tidy up the gardens…

so I particularly take pleasure in the rest of the day in this delightful space…

it has been very hot here for the last few days, with no rain, woohoo…

last night’s supper was pork tenderloin with potatoes, onions, and mushrooms and asparagus…

all cooked on Barbie the Barbecue…

nice to have an option for preparing supper in this heat…

sadly, it appears that the air conditioner has shared its last cooling;-(…

my hair goes along fine and then all of a sudden it has grown like crazy…

Wednesday night it hit that it is too long phase and I marched into the bathroom and started cutting…

for years I cut it myself and then it got more difficult to get the back shaped properly so I started going to get it done…

now I usually go to Ultracuts but I also chop it off every now and then, lol…

it isn’t that big a deal as it is curly so hides any huge mistakes;-)…

came out fine this time…

this morning I discovered a number of poppies and bachelor buttons were blooming in the wildflower pot;-)…

apparently, a couple of the poppies had slipped under the fence and grown up between the bricks in the neighbouring yard, lol…

it was fun to get a photo of all of them beside the Inukshuk;-)…

the pot is overcrowded so I hope that more will bloom before a space problem arises…

testing…

we’ve come to that time of summer when the sparrow babies are testing out their wings…

it can be a dangerous time in the garden, because many of them believe they can hover, like hummingbirds, lol… which they can’t…

they come very close to my head as they manoeuvre around trying to follow their parents and land without injury…

they think they can have dust baths on cushions and land on a dime…

but they still want mommy and daddy to feed them…

cascading…

on Sunday, I put out all the cushions as there was no rain in the forecast;-)…

the waterfall was running very slowly so I climbed into the pond and cleaned out all the muck that had accumulated in the filter of the pump…

then I trimmed up some of the plants in one of the floating baskets as the fish swam around my legs, completely unconcerned…

now the waterfall is cascading beautifully;-)…
