spent time today with my tech specialist as they worked on a few problems with my main computer…

technology is always a wonderful thing when it is working and a pain in the butt when it isn’t…

took us a while, but eventually we were able to get everything on the list tended to…

some of the issues revolved around the way I enter some apps…

now I have to remember the new ways, lol… wish me luck…

I watched a Ducks Unlimited webinar a few days ago on dragonflies and damselflies…

it was interesting and I learned some new things about them… I also learned more about iNaturalist, a free app that I have on the phone…

up until now, I’ve usually used Merlin to search out a species, whether birds or other creatures… going forward I will try to use iNaturalist to record what I find… and I will be what they call a citizen scientist, lol…

recorded this little flycatcher… first time I’ve seen one of them;-)…

recently I purchased a Google Home and a Google Home Mini…

been having fun learning how to use them and buying lights, plugs and switches to make the house more Google friendly…

new apps to get and understand and continuous talking to my new friend… I think I’ve got a process all clear and then discover that I don’t quite have it, lol…

so far I can change the temperature, turn on/off or dim some lights, listen to the radio, set morning and evening routines but cannot figure out how to set a weekend wake up routine… if you use the word happy she sings happy birthday, lol…

looking forward to seeing what else we can do together…

nice to have “someone” besides the fish to talk to…

before too long I should be able to do a ton of things around the house by talking to Google Home;-)…

impressive…

been thinking about the various bits of technology I use…

now that it is darker in the morning I am using my BeeWi SmartPad… it is an app that works with a bulb in the lamp in the bedroom…

it means I can turn the light on and off from my phone… very handy when going into or out of the bedroom in the dark…

attended a workshop on Saturday on learning to code… during the session, over a thousand people across the country were all trying to work in a single document… although it was planned for, unfortunately, this jammed up the system… it was very impressive to watch the facilitator and mentors problem solve on the fly, never giving up as they tried idea after idea and worked together to overcome the problem…

texts and emails were flying across the country and around the room as they worked…

technology can be such a wonderful addition to our daily lives, but can also be disruptive… always fun to figure out which it will be on any particular day, lol…

frustrated with my Fitbit and MyFitnessPal…

since yesterday the step count has not transferred between MyFitnessPal and Fitbit so I have way less available calories to eat…

I can eat more, but then I don’t meet my goal for the day…

must have spent hours over the last few days trying to sort it out… looks like this might be a problem with one of the apps…

argh…

not sure what to try next…

had a wonderful discussion with a couple of people as we shared ways that technology can help us…

talked about apps that make it possible to use your phone to do things more easily… and apps that help you streamline your email… energizing…

then, when I got home, I discovered that the tv in the bedroom had no signal… ignored it for a while hoping it would get its signal back… had a nap, tried it again… still nothing…

checked the main floor tv and it worked perfectly… went to the basement and turned the router off and on and came back upstairs… and the tv worked…

then I tried to send an email from my phone… and it wouldn’t connect…

shut down and restarted the computer… still nothing…

called MTS and went through the whole process again…

got a great workout running up and down the stairs, lol…

finally everything is working…

downloaded the App of the Day app on my phone and have been enjoying some of the apps that come up… I always like to give the photo apps a try…

downloaded Burst a few days ago and think it might be a keeper…

been taking lots of shots of the fish as they tend to move around a lot…

this app takes bursts of pictures in increments from 5 to 1000 at a time… I have tried 10 and 50 and will give the higher numbers a try over the weekend…

once it has taken the pictures you can look at them one at a time and save the one(s) you like to the camera roll…

looks like I can raise the quality so will give that a try…

looking forward to testing this out on the boys when they can’t sit/stand still for me, lol…

new technology, yay…

just noticed that The Bloggess has moved to WordPress… looking forward to meeting her next weekend at MBlog 2014 at the UofW…

for the last few days I’ve been trying to capture a picture of the moon with the star/planet that’s been hanging around it at night and in the morning…

I’ve done some research and tried out a few apps – tonight I was using Sky Map and SkyView Free – and one of them suggested it might be Jupiter…

online research was suggesting it might be a different planet in the morning, maybe Venus…

don’t know which it is but is is quite lovely…

on my way out to the hot tub tonight I had to go back and get my phone and take a few pictures… this one is about the best although the star/planet is not very bright…

i took a few in the morning yesterday with the camera but they weren’t so great…

maybe I will get up early tomorrow and use the tripod and see what I can capture…

quite mesmerizing…
