1825… days since my beloved left me… 261 weeks… 60 months… 

hard to believe so much time has gone by… although it also feels like it was just a moment ago…

he was my best friend, lover, staunch supporter, caregiver, sounding board, helper, chauffeur, shopper, masseuse, gardener, and…

as each anniversary of his passing has come and gone I have been through a variety of emotions… profound sadness, loneliness, and many tears…

some years it has been less difficult than others, but it never has a clear path… not more difficult at the beginning and less so as time has gone by… 

the first year my colleagues all wore purple to show their support to mark the day… sweet and supportive…

received flowers from the kids today…beautiful… the orchids are nearly identical to the ones from graduation… my mauve dress and George’s matching turtleneck were designed and made by a friend and I wore a beautiful orchid corsage on my wrist… that was a very long time ago, lol…

and of course the roses… my romantic husband brought me hundreds over the years…

a lovely treat and they brought back some special memories…

been thinking of light bulbs a lot lately and recently had a conversation with a friend about them…

a few days ago one of the bulbs in the living room started smoking and then blew… now I have to replace it, sigh… 

I find shopping for them crazy making…
there are a million kinds to choose from and they all look the same to me… and it is never clear what one is the right one for the particular job…

you can never find the same one even if you have the burnt out one with you…

George seemed to enjoy finding just the right bulb for each purpose… and he didn’t seem to have trouble doing it…

her husband also likes shopping for light bulbs… 

odd how men seem to find pleasure in finding just the right one…

wish I had someone to find a replacement for this, lol…

think I will take the bulb to a store and then find someone to help me pick out what I need…

made a Valentine’s Day dinner for my daughter and grandsons… son-in-law was working so he missed out, although he doesn’t love lobster the way the rest of us do…

when the kids arrived, my daughter took me over to the store to pick up the steak for our dinner…

then she went out and barbecued the steak and lobster… it was delicious…

one of the giggles we always have around lobster has to do with the butter warmers… 

we’ve had ours for around forty years…

no matter which one she has my daughter’s is never hot enough… our current joke is that dad keeps blowing on it and cooling it down… 

here she is trying to get hers burning stronger as we sat down to our delicious dinner… everyone else had very hot bubbling butter, lol…

was fun to set the table with a Valentine theme… spent some time at Dollarama picking up a few items, including some little plastic hearts filled with tiny heart candies, which were very popular…

I’d made some heart shaped red berry muffins which were also a hit…

little things like the warmers make me feel my beloved is at the dinner table with us… if he had been here, there would have been flowers on the table as well…

rough day physically… woke up early with a very painful tummy which stayed that way… made it through the day at the office so I’d be there for an afternoon party for a colleague who was leaving…

ate very little because of the stomach stuff so am currently waiting for something to be delivered… I do love SkipTheDishes…

noticed this gorgeous sunset when my grandson and I arrived home… lovely to spend a few minutes enjoying it even when I was feeling sick…

and then my grandson shovelled… he is certainly much faster than his grandpa, lol…

always feel ready for company once everything is cleaned up out there…

was just out for a hot tub and watched the full moon for a long time… did not see any part of the eclipse though, or the comet…

missing my beloved who would have looked after me…

thinking about decorating on Friday for Valentine’s Day…

picked up two of these cute heart wreaths yesterday… have to figure out how to attach them to the front door…

also picked up these little hearts… not sure where I am going to put them…

also found these cool letters the other day…

can’t decide on where to put them…

interesting method of putting the batteries in… had to unscrew the cover and then screw it back once they were inside it…

thinking of putting them in the living room window so they face out… feel the need to remind everyone to love each other these days…

found the cutest napkins and some little hearts filled with candy for the kids…

remembering my beloved’s big and kind heart…

been thinking a lot about Valentine’s Day and my beloved…

he was a romantic and always made sure that the day was special for me… he was also romantic the rest of the year…

been dealing with a few household issues lately and maybe that’s why I’ve been thinking of him so much…

on our last Valentine’s together he had a lovely card, a rose, cinnamon hearts and a jacket I’d been coveting from his work – all sitting on the kitchen counter when I came downstairs… he’d had to go through quite a process to get the jacket for me as they didn’t have the right size at his store, so he’d gone to another location to get it.. still one of my favourites…

every time I have flowers they remind me of all the individual roses, bouquets and orchids he brought me over the years… particularly during the winter months when I would often feel down… 

flowers have always been able to perk me up and bring a smile to my face…

this morning as I was driving to work I ran into a patch of ice… 

had to work hard at leaving my foot on the brake… used to old school pumping…

reminded me of what an excellent driver George was… 

he always drove defensively… which also made me think of him as I was sliding on that ice patch…

this is the most recent picture of Shadow that I have… didn’t remember to take a photo of her this morning in her new parking spot at the office… it is a great one with a car on one side but not the other…

the other day, when I was backing out of the garage, my daughter commented on how well I maneuvered the tricky bend in the driveway…

made me think back to when my beloved left me and I had to get in and out of the garage… at first it was very stressful, but as time has gone on I’ve become comfortable with the process… I still would rather be the one to put her into the garage which makes getting her out simpler, lol…

this was a picture I took of the house, from the car, when I made it out of the driveway after one of the big storms recently… you can sort of see the jog by the garage…

I am getting more comfortable in those big girl pants…

the out-of-town kids have been staying elsewhere but a few days ago they slept over and in the morning we walked to the “A” for breakfast…

had to get a picture of them walking down the street holding hands…

my beloved and I held hands whenever we were out and about… it is one of the things I miss the most…

the “A” is my son-in-law’s favourite place for breakfast and George really liked it as well… we often had breakfast there on weekends….

breakfast was lovely and we enjoyed our walk back to the house…

with the cold and snowy weather I haven’t been out walking nearly as much as usual…

was up very early but excited to spot a star out the window… we have had little sunlight for over a week and the sky has been gray day and night… the star meant there was actual visible sky out there… yay…

kept stopping what I was doing to get some shots of the sunshine…

had to put my visor down because of the sun… woohoo…

had some fun with the ornaments on one of the trees…

lots of shine from outside…

it is so beautiful outside with all the snow… have to stop every time I go by a window… more fun from the inside as it has turned very chilly out there… -30 Celsius at the moment…

the critters are making lots of tracks in the garden… have spotted a few squirrels but no bunnies so far, although there are lots of bunny paw prints…

realizing how comfortable those big girl pants are much of the time… I’ve sorted out shovelling and looking after things like the hot tub without the blink of an eye…

but I sure do miss my beloved…

recently took part in a conversation about how people met their significant other… reminded me of how our life together began…

forty-seven years ago today my beloved and I got engaged… we took our parents to Rae and Jerry’s for dinner to celebrate his 21st birthday… and announced our engagement at the same time…

we met in the Spring, shared an instant connection and had seen one another every day since… it really was love at first sight… 

he had come over to visit a friend who was living with us at the time… the friend worked at the garage that George’s dad owned and where George also worked…

we found the perfect ring together…

it was actually an engagement ring and the wedding ring which we had joined together…

funny because he had an amount in mind about what it should cost and was insistent on getting something that fit that budget… we picked it and he went in every few weeks to put money down on it so it would be paid off by his birthday;-)… in those days people didn’t buy much on credit…

I haven’t worn it for a number of years but will wear it today as a reminder of our amazing life together…

I have been, and continue to be, blessed…
