it was a hot one on Sunday…

I spent a good part of the day in the garden… the sun was blazing…

went around and watered all of the planters and then turned on the irrigation system… it worked fairly well and I am excited to get the rest of it connected…

had a nap in the house over the hottest part of the day and then sat on the upper deck in the shade and read…

dug out the grill and barbecued a steak which I enjoyed with some homemade potato salad and asparagus…

nice to do some grilling… my beloved would have cooked the steak better, but as time goes on, I am learning;-)…

began the day listening to the drummers at the Park as they welcomed runners participating in the Manitoba Marathon…

then I put out all the cushions, made breakfast and sat in the garden, listening to the drums and the waterfall…

although we only did it for a few years, I always remember the early morning trips to the UofM when the girls took part in the Marathon… it is such a wonderful reminder of what great dads do to ensure their kids get all the opportunities… and on Father’s Day, lol…

sure do miss that great dad, but am spending the day reminiscing about all the things he did to make their lives better and the life lessons he taught them…

the large planter on the deck has been full of water from all the rain… it doesn’t have any drain holes because it was originally a barrel liner…

I dug out the drill and then did a Google search to remind me how to change the bit… after a little experimenting I was able to put in one that would make holes…

dragged the planter so it hung over the edge and drilled a number of holes in it and watched the water pour out…

hopefully, in the next few days I can pop a few of the morning glories into it, along with the obelisk for them to climb up…

not sure if they need it to be warmer, but I can always plant more, lol…

some days those big girl pants are quite comfortable…

today is Easter, so I decided to make all my meals a treat;-)…

for breakfast I had two poached eggs with a potato patty…

there may have been a little chocolate eaten…

lunch was the last of my dimsum from Gimli Fish… the three packages are around $10 each and they provide three meals… it is a great option for me…

I did have a laugh when I microwaved the first batch… instead of using the timing for the microwave, I used the ones for steaming… it didn’t taste quite as good as usual that time, lol…

supper was a version of stuffed pork chops which I used to make for my beloved and I all the time… I used country style spareribs over my homemade stuffing…

came out beautifully and the bottom of the stuffing was deliciously crisp…

great food;-)…

three years ago today we arrived on Maui… and the first thing we spotted in the hotel was an orchid… how cool was that…

I had been thinking of visiting Hawaii since my beloved’s parents went the first time, many, many, years ago…

it lived up to everything I imagined;-)…

travelling had always made me a bit nervous, but having a companion certainly made it easier… I am wondering about how I will feel about future trips…

I was surprised this morning when I looked out the window and spotted the hoarfrost on the trees…

it is such a gift of nature and looks so delicate (apparently like feathers)… I spent some time researching the difference between rime ice and hoarfrost, once I came across the term, lol… still not a hundred percent sure I understand…

hoarfrost always reminds me of my last drive with my beloved… he drove me around the Park and a few neighbourhoods so that I could take pictures of the beautiful designs that morning…

it was just a few days before his death…

but now, the sight of hoarfrost on the trees reminds me of wonderful times together;-)… I truly am blessed…

this morning I watched a couple of bunnies on the deck looking for something to eat, so I tossed out a few carrots that I broke up for them…

I checked back a bit later and discovered one enjoying the treat…

reminded me of the bunny in the den… it is one of those Build-A-Bear animals that the boys and I had made when my beloved had his heart surgery…

the staff in the cardiology unit had recommended a pillow for him to hold against his chest when he coughed and we thought the bunny would be great… it worked well and he liked it;-)…

it wears scrubs, although a few pieces of the clothing have gone missing, lol…

it is a sweet reminder of a difficult, but special, time…

ten years since my beloved left this earth…

as the day has gotten closer I have felt less myself and more out of sorts…

when he died, I felt as though I didn’t love him enough, because why did I keep living without him…

now, this anniversary has come and I miss him so much… oddly, I know I will start to feel better now the day is here…

spent time recently going through and shredding documents from the weeks following his death… it was a treat to see his handwriting on pieces of paper… gave me a warm hug…

of course going through the reminders of all that happened during that time was difficult…

I know there are a few things in my life that would make him sad, but many others that would make him proud of me…

life goes on… those big girl pants, sigh…

recently I was asked for information on the picture hangers used in the living and dining rooms…

pieces of trim board are attached at the top of the ceiling or under the crown moulding that is already there… they are a bit like cove moulding as there is a little space behind the top of the rail…

we have S hooks that fit over the lip and hold up the fishing line that is attached to the artwork…

we found it works very well and means pieces can be moved around without marking up the walls… I even attach two pictures to the same hook…

it is pretty neat;-)…
