yesterday we celebrated Christmas… I arrived here the evening before, so we put Christmas off by a day, lol…

when we got up in the morning – not until 7 am;-)… we opened the very full stockings and then all the gifts under the tree were distributed… our family tradition is that the youngest passes out the presents and they are opened one-by-one around the circle so that we can see what everyone got…

the same process is followed for stockings (which come from Santa) and that happens first… it was a wonderful time and the gifts were all carefully chosen…

then we prepped for our Christmas breakfast… crepes, made the night before, in the crepe pan that my beloved gave the kids a number of years ago… to fill them there were scrambled eggs, cooked onions and peppers, turkey bacon, grated cheese, strawberries with whipped cream, apples and cinnamon…

delicious meal after all the fun of sharing gifts…

well, yesterday did not turn out as planned…

my grandson was coming over around nine so we could have breakfast at the “A”… then we were going to be picked up and go to St. Norbert Farmers Market… from there we were planning to stop at some grocery stores for a few goodies…

I got dressed, put on a jacket and started walking to breakfast… I just made it past the end of the street when my leg basically stopped working… it was so painful that I couldn’t put any weight on it…

I called and had my grandson pick me up from where I was… he practically had to carry me to the car… we went home, picked up my medical card and drove to Grace Hospital…

he knew just what to do… ran in, got a chair for me, and then took me right to the registration clerks…

I really appreciated this as I was not able to put any weight on it… he volunteers at St. Boniface on a regular basis…

I saw the triage nurse right away and then we waited… were moved into a room and met with a physician’s assistant who decided on an X-ray, ice and some pain meds… eventually they decided on a walker or crutches and keeping my leg elevated at home… we decided on crutches and were home by three…

then there was the entertainment of getting up the three steps and over the threshold into the house… not really that fun…

neighbours came out from both sides to see what was going on and I discovered that one was a nurse… she gave me her number in case I needed her;-)…

this was me laying on the pullout couch on the main floor with a tv going and a bag of frozen peas under my knee… a friend was by, tidied the kitchen, set me up with tea, snacks, additional pillows and a reminder to take it slow;-)…

going to be an interesting few days I think, lol…

I can’t think of a week that I’ve eaten out more…

Monday was an amazing catered dinner at the office…

Tuesday was lunch out with a good friend…

Wednesday, it was breakfast out, followed by pizza brought in for lunch…

today, had delicious homemade muffins and scones, wth fruit and cheese for breakfast, and went for lunch at Smith…

don’t have any plans for tomorrow, lol… how sad is that…

purple-y kind of day…

a few days ago I had a nice pedicure with my daughter and most of the cost was covered by a points program so that was a treat…

later on we stopped at Polo Park and I was able to get my cute Purdys mug replaced…

the one I had before said “I believe in chocolate for breakfast” (which is something my eldest daughter says often) but this new one has less gold on it and the purple paint feels a bit thicker, so maybe it won’t flake off like the first one did… the salesperson said she had this particular mug and hadn’t had any problems with it…

I’ve been a bit lonely over the last week or so… most Christmases my older daughter and her husband have come home… it didn’t work out this year…

was out in the hot tub this morning, first time in ages… a bit later these two pictures came up in my Facebook memories…

the first is deadly chocolate mousse cake, her favourite… I always make sure to have it in the house when she comes… in fact whenever I go to visit her, I take some as well… we always have the cake for breakfast, which the grandsons think is amazing;-)…

the second is of our water boots from last Christmas… she loves the hot tub and our usual pattern is a late night dip before bed…

it was my other son-in-law who suggested water boots many years ago… they work perfectly so that my feet never get cold or snowy…

today I spent some time cooking… turkey and dumplings, and mashed potato and garlic soup…

they both came out pretty tasty, although I am not going to be able to have the potato soup for work lunches because it reeks of garlic, lol…

another wonderful day…

grandson slept over… we made breakfast and then spent a few hours doing a cleanup in the computer room… filled bags of garbage, recycling and a few boxes of giveaways…

my grandson figured out how to get my 500 plus songs onto Google Play… it took about four hours… I am so happy to have them available…

he took out all the trash and then we ran over to Best Buy to pick up a few more plugs for my Google Home… had lunch at Freshii and then back home to connect one of the plugs…

the Himalayan Salt Lamp is now able to turn on and off by voice…

then my work computer person came over and moved computers, drives, pictures and got Outlook working for me… I am very pleased…

now to rest;-)…

well, what a busy and fun day with my boys…

they came over after an early soccer game and we met for breakfast at the “A“… first time I’ve walked over there in ages…

from there we went shopping and then to the movies… saw Fantastic Beasts, which was great… then back to the mall…

on our way home we stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few final ingredients for our supper…

the oldest grandson arrived just before our meal…

great dinner, the boys tidied up and everyone spent some time on their devices before they headed home…

pretty darn fine eating day…

started out with Rice Krispies, almond milk and half a banana… still giggle when I hear the snap, crackle, pop…

was at Kitchen Sync at lunch and had a delicious salad, beautifully plated with a large slice of cheese, and the most amazing beef bourguignon with bacon… food was by Modern Plate Catering…

then to end the day on a good note, was treated to supper at Yafa Cafe… shared some hummus and pita and had red lentil soup… ordered some falafel but ended up bringing them home…

thought that was the end of it, but at our BS gathering shortbread turned up and a super delicious carrot cake…

yummy day;-)…

this morning I started my day at the clinic doing bloodwork before my next appointment…

on my way back to the car I kept having to stop and watch the geese flying overhead… I cannot keep from looking up when I hear them honking…

then I met up with my walking buddy… we had breakfast at The Park Cafe, and noticed that all the geese that usually spend time in the pond were off filling up somewhere else, lol… afterward we wandered through the English and Leo Mol Gardens which are rather sad just now but it was great to be outside…

I dropped her off and we checked out her newly renovated garden… as I was leaving I got this pic of a neighbour’s Halloween decorations;-)…

when I arrived home, had a lovely visit with one of my neighbours… haven’t been outside at the same time for ages so it was great to catch-up… they usually spend a few months at their property in Arizona but with health issues they can’t get insurance so will be selling… they do have a winterized cottage just outside the city, so will spend time there…

seems like we have to adapt quite a bit as we get older…

I was up a bit late and all the boys slept in… we eventually had a wonderful breakfast around eleven… it was cooked on the propane stove and the campfire…

there was intermittent rain until around one at which time we headed out in the boat to fish, with a cooler filled with snacks… it was cool so there was no swimming or tubing in the plans…

we spent four and a half hours on the water… it was glorious… we caught four fish in total – my son-in-law caught two, I brought in one, and the older grandson got one… all Jack fish so we had to throw them back, lol… everyone enjoyed themselves…

the sun danced in and out of the clouds and we spotted loons, ducks, maybe a few muskrats and many seagulls…

when we returned to the boat launch the older grandson brought the boat up onto the trailer, which involves a lot of cranking, lol…

once we were back at the campsite we had supper and sat around the campfire roasting marshmallows for s’mores…
