pleased to see that two of the orchids are getting new buds… got some nice pictures of the buds on one, while the other wouldn’t cooperate…
makes me very happy as they seem to be liking their new spot…
as of today, all twelve are in the new garden-erie;-)…

three years ago my mandevilla was blooming profusely on this day… that year, the flowers began opening mid-July…
it lives in the dining room over the winter and doesn’t bloom during that period…
today I took photos of the buds on that same plant… interesting that we are a month and a half later this year…
it takes quite a long time for the buds to become flowers and I am looking forward to the blooms…

my hibiscus only bloomed one time over the winter… usually it blooms at least twice…
I have had this one for at least three years and usually it loses its leaves when it comes into the house in the fall, and when it comes back into the garden in the spring…
this year I hardened it off and then put an umbrella over it so it wouldn’t get a sunburn…
it didn’t lose many leaves, but it also didn’t look like it was getting any buds…
a week or so ago, I spotted a few just starting…
yesterday, I spotted something red when I looked outside and there they were… the first two flowers…
yay… and there are lots more getting ready;-)…

so excited to see two buds on the morning glories in the living room window…
had not expected flowers before the plants were moved outside…
usually it takes weeks before the first bud shows up, so this was amazing…
since then, those two have opened and many others have bloomed as well…
making me think that I might try to grow some over the winter… I could start them in the fall and then see what happens;-)…

I went around the house and counted my orchids…
there are five in the dining room, all of which are more or less in a dormant state… I went to move two of them and discovered that they had put roots into each other’s pot… how cool is that… reminded me of the amazing banyan tree in Lahaina…
there are seven in the living room, three small ones and four large ones…
right now, this is the only one blooming;-)…
the other three full size ones in the living room have buds starting;-)…

today as I was sitting outside, I took this photo of the tree next door as it is budding out…
so happy to watch this transformation from bare branches to a canopy of leaves…
another thing I’ve noticed over the last few days is the number of planes leaving the airport… there are many more than there have been for weeks… hard to believe that people are travelling, although the planes might all be filled with mail and parcels, lol…

today I trimmed the hibiscus as it has been growing out in all kinds of odd directions…
I’ve read that this isn’t the best time to prune hibiscus, but it really needed to be tidied up…
and then, after I’d removed some branches, I realized that I had cut off buds!
very sad about that… put them in water and set them in the bathroom… hope they might still bloom;-)…
