what a wonderful evening…

supper out with some very special women…

tried shrimp stuffed eggplant at Blaze Bistro… tasty…

then it was off for pedicures… such fun…

as we left the spa the sky was dark gray… getting into the car it was starting to spit…

by the time I arrived home I’d driven through sheets of rain, loads of lightening and waterlogged streets… that part wasn’t so fun, lol…

as I write this the thunder is rolling around the sky… it looks amazing out there… and is currently sounding like fireworks… yikes…

but my toes are stunning;-)…

tonight after work I met up with my kids downtown and we had dinner together before they attended the #wpgwhiteout party and I headed home…

on the way there they had stopped in at the Jets store to pick up some white Jets t-shirts and I think a hoodie or two, lol…

I did feel conspicuous walking to the restaurant without wearing some piece of Jets clothing, lol… good thing I had white capris on and a black and white top…

the youngest asked his mom if I’d be going to the #whiteoutparty as well and she advised there were “way too many people for grandma to go” and she was absolutely correct…

just getting from the restaurant back to the office and the car had me sweating and people were just starting to arrive… thankfully my son-in-law walked with me…

my daughter sent me this shot of the crowd around them…

too many people for me;-)…

it was a long night, what with my buddy, the bed hog… not only does he hog the bed, but he snuggles right up… and he’s hot…

up early and checked out a few feeds on my phone… my grandson got up about half an hour later and we had some quiet time while the others slept…

when they got up, we had omelettes for breakfast and tried to get tickets to go up the Peace Tower, but is was closed for the day due to a protest…

we drove to Bayshore Mall because my daughter said we needed to go there… and discovered a beautiful show of mannequins dressed in flowers… had a wonderful time wandering around and taking pictures while the boys did other things…

then three of us took a bendy bus, train and double decker bus to get home;-)… lots of fun…

home for a nap, a quick hair trim and then the boys dropped us off for a fancy meal while they went out for dinner and a movie… and even remembered to take the picture I asked for;-)…

we went to Atelier and had a magnificent fourteen course dinner… here are a few of the courses…

they also brought us each an adorable micro mini cake with a chocolate candle that burned…

an excellent day;-)…

so very happy this morning when I was able to step into my slippers without thinking… for days I’ve had to lean on something and concentrate on my knee as I would slide my foot into the slipper…

while grocery shopping I treated myself to some flowers to celebrate my birthday week;-)…

didn’t arrange them that well, but might take some to the office and ask a friend to make them more beautiful… and tomorrow night I will ask another friend to do something with the ones I leave at home…

to top the day off, my grandsons came for dinner and helped with a few jobs around the house, including filling and hanging the feeder in the garden…

if the hot tub ever gets to temperature I will be able to watch the birds, lol…

and after the busyness of the day, my knee is feeling good… yay…

my middle grandson came over this morning to spend the night…

first thing we did was change the display in the living room table… took out the Chihuly bits and put in shells, books and rocks…

he has an artistic streak so it was fun to watch as he decided what needed to go where…

off to the Park, where we had brunch, walked through the Conservatory, and stopped by the Zoo to see if his toque had turned up in the lost and found…

sadly, no toque…

home for a rest and then some roasted lamb for our supper…

it was cooked perfectly…

lovely day filled with special moments…

had a bit of fun today…

picked up a few tops while I was out shopping… didn’t try them on until I got home…

they all fit but might not go with the pants I had on, lol…

once home I prepared a few types of soup which was fun… I made my favourite zucchini and basil and then played with an asparagus soup… read a number of recipes and then designed my own… came out nicely…

packaged up the zucchini basil for lunches, but enjoyed the asparagus as part of my dinner…

had a wonderful evening with my two youngest grandsons…

met up with them around 4:30 and then we wandered The Forks, visited the Ice Castles and had dinner out…

they must have gone down the slides a dozen times… now we are home and in various beds watching tv…

what a blessing to have time with them… although I am exhausted, lol…

today marks six birthdays without my beloved…

it always felt that he lost out because often his birthday and Christmas would be lumped together… particularly for the many years that we really lived hand-to-mouth…

for all of our family birthdays, the birthday person got to choose what we would have for dinner… for the last number of years we have had burgers, French fries, milkshakes and apple pie in his memory… he especially liked the burgers just down the street…

the first few years we Skyped with the out of town kids… one year we had a phone and an iPad so we could get both of them in the room with us…

last year everyone was busy so I had a quiet day remembering so many fun times we had over the years…

our plan was for the city kids to come over tonight but the momma is sick so they stayed home… wasn’t planning to connect with the out-of-towners but was able to FaceTime with my daughter while she had her supper…

I was going to stop and pick up groceries and then a burger, but it was miserable outside so in the end I drove straight home and then ordered a thali platter…

time with my BS buddies and now to bed… life has settled into a pattern and I wear the big girl pants more and more easily…

not sure if that is a good thing or not…

busy, busy, busy… spent the morning emptying the bedroom for painting and preparing chicken soup…

friends arrived and two of us went off to do some Craft Show shopping while one stayed behind to do the painting;-)…

four hours later we came home and the room was done… it was already dark by the time I took photos so I am excited to see it in the light of day… the colour is a very pale mauve/pink… or, maybe it will just look like it has been freshened up…

made dumplings to go with the soup, pulled together a Caesar salad and we had supper… George would have called this stoup… a cross between stew and soup…

lovely to have friends over for dinner… been a long time…

Monday night after Thanksgiving dinner, I made the turkey soup broth, and popped it into the fridge…

this morning I worked on the soup by adding a bay leaf, shredded carrots, celery, onion and potatoes… used the mandolin and laughed again as I remembered how my beloved and I hadn’t used the first one we had correctly, lol…

after that cooked down I added in barley, peas and corn and left it simmering on the stove for a few hours…

final step was to make my mom’s dumpling recipe and add it to a portion of the soup…

I tend to remove about half of the soup into containers before adding the dumplings to what’s left…

let it simmer for about half an hour and voila…

vegetable turkey soup with dumplings… delicious dinner…

tomorrow I’ll give some to the kids…
