was a bit behind this morning but eventually headed over to the Park for my weekend visit…

spotted this flag on the sandbar in the river by the walking bridge to the Park…

there were likely thousands of people in the Park last night for the fireworks and during the day for all the Canada Day activities and they hadn’t yet got it cleaned up…  garbage bags were piled around the garbage cans but there was also lots of trash along the paths… I should have taken a bag and collected as I walked because I am a bit crazy about not littering, just ask my kids, lol…

happy to see water lily flowers in the Arbour Pond…

the main lily pond is not doing nearly as well… only spotted one bud where usually by now there would be dozens of blooms…

once I got home I spent a few minutes admiring the clematis… it has exploded…

finally spent some time in the garden reading and watching the fish in the pond…

in an effort to keep up my exercise program I try to walk to the Park at least once on the weekend…

Sunday I got up and walked over fairly early…

the sun was shining down through the trees on the path… nice, considering the rain and dull skies we’ve been dealing with…

I decided to stop at The Park Cafe for breakfast… they have a delicious Black Bean Benedict where the beans are used as the muffin… nice treat… and I enjoyed eating by myself… yay for those big girl pants, lol…

the Boy with the Boot looked very nice in a circle of red and white, all ready for Canada Day…

the water lilies in the Arbour Pond have started to bloom, unlike the tropical ones in the main pond which are struggling with the chilly weather…

the peonies are doing beautifully by “our” bench… but I didn’t sit because this piece of equipment was buzzing loudly…

this bed of hostas is so beautiful… and the water drops just added to my delight in the view…

every time I walk through the Gardens I see something else growing or changing or for the first time…

so blessed for the good health and opportunity to enjoy this great space…

another overcast and rainy day… but, I decided to go for a walk anyway…

made it to the Park and part way around the Gardens before the rain began…

took at least six pictures, from various locations, of this tree in bloom… just stunning…

this shot has tulips and lilacs… the pond on the right is now filled with water and the fountains are running… excited for the water lilies to be added in…

this year the tulips are red and white, I’m thinking a nod to Canada 150… usually they are multi-coloured…

had to open the zoom and dry the camera when I got home to be sure it wasn’t damaged by the rain…

had some tea to warm my hands which felt frozen by the time I got home…

went to Save-On-Foods and did a grocery shop… been enjoying shopping there… they have the very best coconut Greek yogurt… with a low sugar content… they also carry the Pro Activ margarine that can be difficult to find… was nearly blown away trying to get to the car with the bags…

got home, put away the groceries and had a nap…

focused on seafood for the week’s meals…

made jumbo prawns with rice, fresh asparagus and green onion for dinner…

what a lovely ending to my vacation…

enjoyed a walk to and through the Park before a breakfast date with my sister-in-law, nephew and his girlfriend…

after breakfast we took a quick tour of the Gardens…

she lives in Calgary so it is always great to spend time with her when she comes to town…

had just pulled my camera out to take a picture of a butterfly bush when this butterfly decided to land on it… and pose…

surprised how this picture turned out with the light and dark from my shadow…

I love this spot and often sit here for long periods of time… a favourite place where my beloved and I would rest when we walked through the Gardens…

and my kids came for supper… soccer is over, yay… we had a great time, Pokemon-ing and visiting… everyone enjoyed the food and there were leftovers to share for a few meals this week…

kitchen is tidy, laundry is done and I am ready for my return to work after a fun and fleeting break…

I think I enjoyed every moment of the ten days… lots for the memory banks…

took some lovely flower pictures at the Park on the weekend, so wanted to share a few of them with you…

seems I am drawn to blooms made up of tiny flowers, lol… lovely shade of purple…

multi shades of pink… odd I would be drawn to this…

and yellow-y orange…

there is a whole section filled with beautifully coloured foxglove… such a pretty light shade of purple…

really admire the way the gardeners combine the plants to get such striking beds…

these roses were heavy with the dew…

final view before leaving the English Garden…

flowers do make me happy…

today, if I’ve seen one bunny, I’ve seen twenty-five…

this was the first one on my first walk to the Park…

saw at least two more on the way and then spotted this one in the English Garden…

there were crowds of squirrels as well…

on my way home spotted this one and its partner…

at nine in the morning the Lyric Theatre looked like this…

at nine at night it looked like this…

and that doesn’t show the other two-thirds of the people that crowded in behind us…

in the Leo Mol Garden, early, there were a handful of people and the water lilies were still closed…

bit early for them to bloom…

but by five pm they were all open…

and the Gardens were jam packed with Pokemon Go players…

what a difference ten hours can make…

this morning the sky was stunning… it started with white clouds, then dark clouds, and finally sunshine, all within what felt like minutes…

then it was off to the Park for breakfast and a walk through the Gardens with my friend…

as I walked there, the sky continued to provide a variety of views…

once inside the Park, came across a huge tree down on the pathway…

great meal and stroll as we caught up on one another’s lives over the last few weeks…

the Gardens were at their absolute best with blooms bursting out everywhere we looked…

clearly the gardeners have been working nonstop…

and there were others hard at work in amongst the flowers…

this morning the Boy and his Boot were dry, but there were some new plants in the pond and they were lovely…

took a turn around the Riley Family Duck Pond and got a few shots of some mallard babies… not so little anymore…

nice view of the Pavilion and Lyric stage…

sky continued to change on my walk home… bit of darkness off in the distance as I crossed the bridge… and the wind started to pick up…

by the time I reached the corner of my street the temperature had probably dropped five degrees…

and it was very dark… but it all blew over and was sunny for the remainder of the day…

was sure to have my supper organized and eaten before six, when the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Opening Ceremonies started…

firmly ensconced in front of the tv… happily won’t have to get up in the middle of the night to watch as the time zone is so close to ours…

going to be busy for the next seventeen days, lol…

had a great walk through the Gardens at the Park on Friday and got a few good pictures… water was a common thread…

the pelicans were sitting on the edge of the little island as we walked across the bridge to the Park… first time I’ve seen them this year…

the water was finally running on the Boy with the Boot, at the entry to the English Garden… last year they were trying to use solar power to run the pump but that didn’t seem to work so well… first time it’s been going this year and it still looks like it needs a bit of work, lol…

my friend noticed this dragonfly at the edge of the pond in the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden and I got a great shot… last week there were hundreds of them, but barely any this time…

this is my favourite shot… the irrigation system was going in this spot and the spray looked so nice in the sunlight… in another area we had to retreat because the sprinklers were trying to soak us, lol…

cannot express how much I enjoy going every week and seeing the changes in the gardens… such fun…

yesterday I discovered this plaque that a dear friend had given to me… it had come down from the bedroom wall four years ago when my older daughter arranged for her friends to come and paint the room for me before my surgery… the bedroom had been looking very worn and we knew I would be spending a lot of recovery time in it…

when I discovered it yesterday it went right down into the bathroom where it has a place of prominence…

on my walk in the Gardens at the Park today I was also thinking of friends…

often meet a friend to take this walk but she is away so I was on my own…

beautiful iris…

one of the gardeners was busy with the ongoing work in the gardens but happily answered my questions…

like why so many of the benches were tipped over… apparently some of the concrete needed repair… kind of funny, because they just put them in about two weeks ago after they had redone many of the walkways…

spotted this leopard frog having a look over its domain… that was just after a turtle slipped into the water on the other side of the pond…

my other question was about the string algae which is rather prominent in their pond as well… they are having pump troubles and also dye the water so the sunlight can’t get through and cause more algae…

dragonflies were everywhere… didn’t even see this one on the lilypad when I took the picture…

this one posed very nicely for me…

sat on “my” bench – where George and I would often take a break on our walks through the Gardens – and the cutest teeny bunny came out from the undergrowth five or six times… but when I finally spoke to it, it left for good…

not sure why, but I have been missing him terribly for the last month or so…

as I toured around the Duck Pond I caught sight of this mallard mom and her babies having a rest in the sunshine…

while I was walking thought a lot about my friends and how blessed I am to have them…
