I’ve spent the week watching PVRed sports on tv…

it has been so interesting to see all the technology that has improved many of the sports, from starting blocks to lights around the track showing world record speeds…

the athletics have been excellent and have brought many memories flooding back from magical times with my dad…

we used to attend events at the old Arena and had fun watching and cheering on all of the participants…

my dad really embedded the idea in my head that every person deserved applause, even if they weren’t from a team you were cheering for…

lovely memories;-)…

arrived home yesterday to a cupboard cleaning frenzy…

everything had been removed from two cupboards and partially put back…

not necessarily the way I would like…

as I look at the result, it occurs to me that we use a great number of different items that I used previously, lol…

reminded me of when my beloved was off of work and doing most of the cooking… he had some bizarre idea that things should be organized the way he liked 😳…

considering that my housemate has been here for just over a year, I suppose he should have a say in how things are organized, but still🤔…

and then we dealt with the pantry together…

over the last two or three weeks I’ve purchased a few different sets of Valentine cookie cutters as I’ve worked on a project…

the end result of the project didn’t turn out quite as well as I wanted, but after a lot of trial and error I was satisfied with the results…

so I decided to use the cookie cutters for their actual purpose, lol…

I made cookies for the first time in I don’t know how long…

I can’t even think of how many I have made over the years… I made them for every holiday for the girls’ classmates as well as for family and friends…

it was fun to make them again as I remembered so many I had previously produced…

they came out very nicely and we have been enjoying them…

first thing I did on Thursday was put the heart wreath on the front door…

a little later, I brought down the rest of the love items and set them around the house…

that was fun;-)…

February is Heart and Stroke month and a time when I make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in memory of my beloved and those who have been touched by heart disease…

yesterday was the first night of snow clearing on side streets this winter, and I have finally figured out which zone we are in…

I have learned to go out as soon as the plows go by to shovel the end of the sidewalk otherwise it turns to concrete and is nearly impossible to move…

they arrived about 10:45 pm and my housemate went out and shovelled our sidewalk and the one next door… in his shirtsleeves, but he did have his gloves on…

a nice treat, although I was dressed and ready to go, lol…

they did a great job at the end of the driveway so there was nothing to shovel there…

I did stand in the window and wave to each of the drivers of the graders and plows as they went by…

it was bitterly cold and I didn’t take a photo until they were doing the other side of the street, lol…

one of my gifts was a cool screwdriver…

as I was trying to remove it from the packaging before bed, I cut my finger… it bled quite a bit so I put a bandage on it…

it reminded me of my beloved;-)…

he had bandages everywhere in the house, garage, the car, his pockets…

and that was because he was always injuring himself as he worked away at whatever project was happening…

memories;-)…

had a quiet and relaxed day on Christmas…

got up late for me, about eight;-)… made tea and watched a Christmas movie while I had my breakfast and waited for the Ottawa family to contact me…

after some technical difficulties, we had a lovely visit and opened presents;-)… technology really is an amazing thing…

after saying goodbye to them, I got the chicken into the oven and may have watched another Christmas movie, lol…

my grandson arrived home from one set of parents, we opened gifts, and had a lovely lunch…

then he was off to visit the other set of parents and I may have had a nap…

tv shows and leftovers took up the rest of the day…

I found out in the morning on Christmas Eve that we were going to have lunch on Christmas Day between trips my grandson was making between his various family clans;-)…

it was a quick trip to the freezer to pull out a beautiful chicken and get it thawing… I had been planning on a Cornish hen, with all the fixings, so it wasn’t a lot more to do to cook the chicken;-)…

a turnip was peeled, cut, boiled (so that the water would be available for the chicken gravy), and mashed…

mashed potatoes were also prepared and put into the fridge which helps with making a resistant starch…

stuffing was made and packaged, ready to go into the chicken…

took most of the day to thaw the chicken, lol, but it was ready for the oven in time…

everything turned out beautifully and we had a delicious Christmas lunch…

possibly a new tradition;-)…

nearly a year to the day, we went back to The Leaf in the evening…

we ate dinner at Gather Craft Kitchen and Bar and then wandered through the biomes…

the restaurant was very busy, but we were seated by the window at a two-person table, so were quite a distance from the other diners…

we shared chorizo spiced seitan tacos, I had pork and veal meatballs, and my grandson had a fancy hamburger and everything was tasty… we decided to skip dessert and go for blizzards after our visit to the biomes…

as we wandered through the Tropical biome it was quite amazing to see how the plants have grown… the place is absolutely lush;-)… leaves fell over the walkways in a number of spots, lol…

looking down from the bridge on the third floor it was striking to see how much everything has grown…

it was the first time since that inaugural visit that I’ve been at night… unfortunately it was too dark for my Nikon so all my photos were with my iPhone… got to see some bananas, a pineapple, coffee beans and cacao pods…

it looks like the inside of the biomes have been wrapped with plastic, and the fans in the Tropical biome were blowing rather vigorously…

it was exciting to see that there were a great number of various-sized smaller koi in the pond… babies, maybe;-)…

the next post will be about the Mediterranean biome;-)…
