trying to decide how to change up the garden this year…
so far nothing much is happening, as we haven’t brought out the last bits and pieces of furniture…
washed down a few of the chairs and am trying one of them between the gate and garage door so I can have a good view of the pond and the bird feeders… not sure if this will work as the chair is quite wide;-)…
once the furniture and umbrellas are in place, there will need to be decisions made about where plants and pots will go…
spent a few hours in the garden on Sunday working towards getting it put to bed for the winter…
pots went into the shed, the sail was removed, umbrellas came down and were put away, chairs and tables were gathered together in preparation for being covered before the weather turns…
rain barrels were emptied and will be flipped over shortly… just a bit left to do;-)…
on Friday I rearranged the lawn furniture so there was a bit more space on the back deck…
on Saturday, I took the netting off the pond… it was doing a good job of collecting the leaves although the weight of them had it sinking into the water…
the fish weren’t moving around as much as usual, the birds weren’t drinking or bathing and I didn’t like the look of it…
next year when it goes down, I will put some thin boards over the top so that it doesn’t slip into the fishes’ domain…
now, the fish, the birds, and I are much happier, lol…
yesterday I woke up feeling a bit sorry for myself…
it would have been our 54th wedding anniversary, but instead it is the 12th year without my beloved…
I went out early and watered the grass as we’ve been working on adding some to bald spots in the garden… my beloved loved it when the grass looked good, lol…
I also ran the irrigation system at the same time… first time I’ve done that and it worked fairly well… the pressure for the grass watering portion was not as strong as usual, but it meant that I could get all the watering done at once…
I turned the PVR on so I wouldn’t miss any Olympics, lol…
then I reorganized the lawn furniture… took a bit of effort to get the lounger where I wanted, but I think it should work for the next while… all of the cushions came out…
while there was still shade, I filled up the four bird feeders and then I sat on the back deck to read and enjoy the garden before it got too hot…
later we went out for supper as a treat from the Ottawa kids;-)…
I have had this six piece sectional couch for close to thirty years (according to my daughter)…
it had resided in the living room, and for the last number of years, in the basement family room…
a few years ago I brought up three pieces for the living room again, as the hide-a-bed was moved into the den…
in the recent decluttering process downstairs, the three remaining pieces needed to find a new home… two came up to the living room and one was already in the back storage room… the living room was overflowing, lol…
I thought about putting two in the office, but that was really going to fill up that small room…
so I decided to give them away… my daughter was very proud;-)…
a few days ago they were stuffed into the truck and delivered to someone who could use them…
between that, and the chair being fixed, the living room has returned to normal and I am one happy camper;-)…
Wednesday morning we went to Custom Repair & Stitchery and ordered new cushions for the garden chairs… we looked through the fabric options and chose a green similar to what is currently in the garden… and there will be zippers so the covers can come off the foam to be washed…
I have been wanting them for ten years or so, ever since the last ones faded and lost their comfort level…
and so, since then, we have used two square cushions on each chair, which have been okay, but they have been getting a bit old as well…
I was also interested to see a newer version of Square than I’d seen before… I do love technology…
this afternoon my grandson arrived to finish a few jobs around the yard, including putting away the lawn furniture and then he and his friend replaced the sidewalk stones along the front flowerbed… they had sunk way down into the grass over the years….
this is going to make walking from the driveway to the house much more stable and it will also be way easier to shovel once the snow arrives…
