spent the morning in the garden watching chickadees, monarchs, nuthatches, squirrels and fish…
the nuthatch was not interested in a photo op and even the chickadees were not particularly cooperative…
the monarch was happily guzzling nectar from the butterfly bush, so I was able to get a number of photos… I am very happy to finally have this plant in the garden and hope that I can get some seeds from it for next year or maybe even try to bring it into the house to see if it will overwinter…
it looks like there will be two more water lily flowers with a possible third one… very exciting…
I hadn’t been out in the garden for a few days and really enjoyed time with the members of my garden sanctuary;-)…
so far, I’ve had two grape tomatoes from my plants…
I started these in the house in a cardboard egg carton from wrinkled grape tomatoes that weren’t good enough to eat, lol…
rather pleased with the result…
also finally have one of the vine tomatoes starting… I found the seeds for these in a pile of items from our 2013 Alaska trip… wasn’t sure they would still be good;-)…
not sure how big this one will get, but happy to check daily;-)…
two very large goldfish… a white one and an orange one…
they came from a family who plan to move to fancier fish… the grandma brought them over with the oldest grandson’s Nanny, who connected us…
they left them with me once they put the bags in the water… after the fish acclimatized for about half an hour I freed them so they could meet everyone else…
once they were safely in the pond, I took some pictures to send to the family, via Nanny, so that the grandkids could see they were in a good home…
the pond and fish bring me such peace… what a lovely gift;-)…
happy to check out the garden after being gone for a short time… enjoyed walking through and seeing what was about to bloom, what had just about finished and checking for caterpillars… unfortunately I haven’t found any more monarch or swallowtail babies…
I had asked my grandson to come by and water it while I was away and was very happy that he did…
the front flowers were a bit sad, as he hadn’t remembered to water them. but a quick dose of water and they all revived…
the ability of most plants to recover from thirst is quite amazing, lol…
our BS group met for dinner in the garden to celebrate a birthday…
I spent a good portion of the day ensuring that there were enough chairs available and physically distanced… it was very warm and the sun was shining in most of the garden…
in the end, we ate on the deck as it was shaded, lol… had dinner and dessert delivered and it was tasty…
after dinner we moved to the garden and carried on our visit…
took a very distanced photo as we usually commemorate special times together and I used my phone as the remote to take the shot…
although we video call each Monday night it was lovely to be together again in person…
had a wonderful walk to and around a portion of Assiniboine Park…
it was a bit nerve wracking as I crossed the bridge, but no one else was crossing at the same time… I think if both people stay right at the edge there are six feet between them…
I made it to the English Garden only to discover that it doesn’t open until 9 am due to COVID-19…
instead I walked around the Riley Duck Pond, although there weren’t many ducks and geese around, lol…
did come across someone I know and we had a nice chat before going on our way…
nice to get that first trip done and hoping to do it again…
sadly I won’t be visiting the English Garden or Leo Mol Garden for a while, as I am walking very early so I don’t run into lots of individuals…
spent most of the day in the garden, watching squirrels, chickadees, butterflies and goldfish…
watched a little red squirrel make hundreds of trips across the upper deck to collect sunflowers for its stash… saw the frog and a purple house finch, read and napped in the garden…
brought out some of the flowers I received yesterday to enjoy…
so happy to have this space to entertain and was pleased to have visitors from out of town… enjoyed steak and lobster for dinner and some quiet late night star gazing…
we were quite late in eating and I giggled a bit when I realized that I didn’t remember to take a picture of my supper…
