this morning my Seize the Day calendar reminded me to start each day with a grateful heart... it was a good reminder…

I am grateful for the birdseed in the feeders in the front and back yards… thanks to my middle grandson who filled them all on Saturday…

so far only the squirrel has found the one in the front, I had a quiet time watching for the birds through the window as I sat in the sunshine…

both birds and squirrels have found the one in the garden…

I am grateful for an early morning rainbow on the kitchen floor, new leaves on the Japanese Maple, and sunlight shining on orchids…

I am grateful for time to read, food to eat, a comfortable home to live in, and wonderful memories…

sometimes a reminder is just what’s needed…

this morning I had some leftover popcorn from yesterday’s movie…

reminded me of what a wonderful day I had with the boys yesterday…

and today I spent time with my oldest grandson… we shopped, made spaghetti and meatballs for our supper, and watched some tv shows before he headed off with the car…

also had a surprise visit from a dear friend… lovely catch-up from a busy week…

had hoped to pick up fresh flowers but the options weren’t great so I didn’t being any home… but there are still a few blooms floating around the house…

sipping tea and realizing how blessed I am…

Monday is our usual night to gather… we have been doing this for years… last week we got to talking about Chinese food and decided to have supper together this week… Monday evenings are already blocked off in everyone’s calendars, lol, so changing the time was fairly simple…

we each offered up our favourite dishes, a menu was circulated by email, adjustments were made and a person chosen to order and pick up the dinner… times were chosen and rides were organized…

we had hoped that my grandson would join us as he was expected to be here to collect Indi to use on Tuesday… unfortunately things changed and he couldn’t join us…

it was wonderful to have the time to prepare for dinner… I had fun digging through my dishes and finding tea pots and cups; a variety of chopsticks and stands; and various trivets to put the food on when it arrived…

we had a lovely dinner and tons of great conversation… it was a wonderful treat to share a meal… finished the evening with more conversation, coffee and a lemon cake…

life is good…

actually went outside for the first time in at least a week…

walked to the “A” and met my grandson for breakfast… had a lovely meal and conversation…

from there we headed out to do some errands… bought some rollers at Saje… been trying to get there since I got back from Ottawa… picked up Sleep Well, Peppermint Halo and Pain Relief… I used the first two while I was away and will give the third one a try for some of the pain I’ve been experiencing in my knee…

was able to replace a Google Hub to get the correct colour… it was one of my Christmas gifts… but I did see a Lenovo Smart Display 10″ with Google Assistant… going to look into that a bit more in case it would do more of what I want than the Hub…

Indi finally had a bath and a few groceries were purchased, including a cute new plate…

I have been enjoying using different plates to eat from and I think this one will be a great addition…

home, put away the groceries and my grandson took the car… the plan was that he would come back tomorrow for dinner…

then it was afternoon nap time, lol…

a few days ago, after doing a lot of research, including a conversation with my Ottawa kids, I went out and picked up a wifi Instant Pot…

I decided to cook a whole frozen chicken… it didn’t go quite as well as hoped, but eventually the chicken was cooked… I boiled some potatoes to go along with it as they had gotten a bit soft and were growing eyes while I was away, lol…

yesterday the wifi connected rather easily… now I can turn it on, off, or give it directions from my phone, lol…

my grandson and I plan to have dinner together on Monday evenings as he will be using my car on Tuesdays for the next while… we’ve decided to try Instant Pot recipes every week…

last night we made chicken thighs with baby potatoes… next time I’d use a bit less liquid, but it was tasty and moist… and we had fun using the sauté option on the Pot;-)…

today I picked up a recipe book as it didn’t come with one… eventually we should be able to find recipes online but this Instant Pot Bible is going to be helpful as we learn more…

looking forward to some fun dinners…

had the most delightful day with my grandson…

we had breakfast at one of our favourite places, ran a few errands and spent six hours at Thermea…

went in when it was light, and left in the dark…

today was the first time I’ve had a massage there and it was lovely… I like the Swedish, gentle, ones… my grandson had the deep tissue one, lol… I think he might be bruised, but he was happy…

then it was on to the thermal experience… even the Polar pool a few times… we attended an Aufguss ritual, spent time in nearly all the saunas, sat by the fire, enjoyed both pools, had supper and spent more time in the cool pool and hot tub…

just like his mother, aunt and grandfather, he can find people he’s met before in any place he goes;-)… and had a lengthy chat with them…

what a wonderful day it has been… on our way home he treated me to a Dairy Queen ice cream cone – one of my favourites ;-)…

woke up this morning thinking of my beloved… he’s been gone for seven and a half years, and I miss him every day…

I try not to use the same photos in more than one medium, but this is one of my favourites, so I am sharing it broadly…

he would have been 71… in his honour I made bacon and eggs over easy for breakfast, lol…

put on a purple plaid shirt and jeans… he was always in jeans and had a favourite plaid shirt that he often wore…

after a busy day, my grandson met me at work, we ran a few errands and had dinner out…

ended our meal with apple crisp and ice cream… my beloved made the best apple pie;-)…

lovely day filled with happy memories…

my friends often tell me that my oldest grandson looks like my beloved… but I don’t see it…

recently my daughter sent me a photo she came across… it was in an album that belonged to her grandmother, my beloved’a mom…

when I first looked at it I wondered where she’d got the picture of my grandson, lol…

then I realized it was my beloved…

a photo from high school, so over fifty years old, but it is still in good shape… and a similar age to my grandson now…

here is a photo from my grandson’s grade twelve graduation…

they do look alike;-)…

yesterday my grandson came over…

he cleaned the pump in the pond, but for some reason it wouldn’t start up… will have to get my son-in-law over to see if his magic fingers can get it going…

we went to Za Pizza Bistro for supper with some out-of-town family… first time I’ve been there and it was delicious… I was able to have a white sauce on mine, which I really enjoy, and the crust was thin and crispy… it was great fun choosing the exact toppings I wanted…

before it got dark he headed home on his bike…

I really enjoy spending time with him…

last night I got to watch my son-in-law and oldest grandson play soccer…

my son-in-law recently joined a mixed league… they were playing last night and this was my first opportunity to watch him…

the team needed a spare so my grandson came to play…

such fun to watch the dad, who has coached a number of the boys’ teams, actually on the playing field…

I really enjoyed seeing them play together… what a treat…
