Wednesday was another beautiful day…

put out all the cushions as a dear friend was coming over later in the day, and it always looks so much nicer when they are all set out…

Hilda the Gardener came and weeded and moved a few plants… we had a lovely visit while that was happening…

I climbed into the pond and cleaned the filter which made the waterfall happy;-)…

read a good book and had lunch on the back deck with some of my ripe tomatoes and fresh basil…

had a delightful supper and visit with a friend I haven’t seen for ages and toured the garden with her…

also shared some poppy and morning glory seeds…

drove to Oak Street on Tuesday, just before the rain, to pick up my bouquet subscription…

I took a box that hooked into the seatbelt so that the flowers wouldn’t fall over… it worked perfectly…

such a treat to get fresh flowers every week… and they are lasting very well…

got a few photos as the drops started to fall…

the other day I saw a monarch flying around the garden and laying eggs on the milkweed…

I went to check out the two milkweed plants that are just by the waterfall to see if any eggs had been left there…

and it was there that I discovered this little caterpillar… of course this is the hardest spot to get any pictures, lol…

and I was happy to still see it after the downpour…

yesterday my grandson picked up my first bouquet of the subscription from Sweet Petals Farm that my kids gave me for my birthday…

it is for eight weeks of bouquets (July and August)…

he had my car and so went and collected them for me…

they are quite beautiful and smell delicious…

what a lovely treat…

recently I wrote about how well the clematis is doing along the driveway…

now it is blooming… and I think this is the most blossoms since we planted it many years ago…

it has more stems and leaves too…

now that I’ve done the math… 🤪… I realize that it is about twelve or thirteen years old… I am actually surprised as I hadn’t realized how long it has been in this spot…

time flies;-)…

I am beyond happy…

Thursday the kids came over and we spent most of the late afternoon in the garden…

my grandson started work on a bonsai tree and it was great fun to see him trim a blue cedar into something resembling a small tree…

it is going to live in the garden for the summer…

then, we finished the irrigation system… yay… the hose was straightened, holes were punched in various places and tubes with sprinklers were connected… they had no trouble connecting the tubes to the hose, sigh… we ran a test and made sure each little piece was spraying appropriately…

we need a few more pieces of tubing, but most planters, baskets and perennials now will be watered when I turn on the tap… I am sure they will all be happy about this, lol…

so excited to see how well the garden will grow when it is watered regularly…

then we had barbecued steak and asparagus, baked potatoes and a salad on the deck…

what a treat;-)…

began the day listening to the drummers at the Park as they welcomed runners participating in the Manitoba Marathon…

then I put out all the cushions, made breakfast and sat in the garden, listening to the drums and the waterfall…

although we only did it for a few years, I always remember the early morning trips to the UofM when the girls took part in the Marathon… it is such a wonderful reminder of what great dads do to ensure their kids get all the opportunities… and on Father’s Day, lol…

sure do miss that great dad, but am spending the day reminiscing about all the things he did to make their lives better and the life lessons he taught them…

Friday I went shopping for lilacs… at my neighbour’s… with permission, lol…

they were heading away for the weekend and she texted me to offer them up… she knows how I love lilacs… and I think theirs are so pretty with the white around the edges…

I had just come home from an appointment and noticed that the bushes on the next street over were blooming and I was contemplating asking if I might cut some…

I got a pailful and filled two vases… one has been outside with me and the other has perfumed the main floor;-)…

happy days;-)…

I am being intentional about spending as much time as possible in the garden…

it feels important to enjoy every minute when the weather is good…

I’ve also been doing a bit of weeding whenever I feel so inclined, lol…

although weeding hasn’t been one of my favourite pastimes, I am beginning to enjoy it… the satisfaction of a tidy area that I cleared is rather nice… although I am also thrilled after Hilda the Gardener has been by and tidied the beds and paths…

now that the front beds are complete, I am thinking of using some of the landscaping fabric around the Inukshuk… just have to get more mulch before that can happen…

here are a few spots I recently cleaned up…

the garden is definitely my happy place;-)…
