the kitchen is finished;-)… I am sooooo happy… my son-in-law has done a stellar job…

the ceiling was scraped, primed and painted…

the cabinet doors were removed…

everything came out, was sorted, and lots of things went into boxes to give away…

the doors were primed and painted…

the inside of the upper cupboards (which were red) were given two coats of primer and one coat of paint… I have been dreaming about this for at least the last five years…

the doors and drawers and front of the lower cupboards were painted…

the cutting board and end countertop got a coat of paint along the edges…

new hardware was installed on all the doors..

and the light switch (which works with Google) and new light fixture were added…

everything is bright and back where it belongs and I love it;-)…

Monday was a bit of a slower day with rain during the morning… we had breakfast out and I put the foodstuff back on the shelves while my son-in-law ran out to get a few things we needed…

then we took everything out of all the bottom cabinets, and while he washed the shelves and removed a few extra shelves in the back of two of them, I went through and set aside items for the giveaway boxes…

the frame and all the doors were primed and there were doors and drawers drying all over the place, lol…

Thursday, the actual paint went on the shelves and doors…

the dishes that weren’t staying were all packed up and a pickup scheduled for next week…

we had to run out to pick up some washers and screws to use on the doors…

we also stopped for ice cream… I got a blizzard and my son-in-law a banana split… yum…

what a great treat after all the work…

Saturday morning, all the dishes went back into the cupboards… woohoo…

it was fun to arrange, and then rearrange, everything until it was just right;-)…

we left the doors off to be sure there is good airflow to get rid of any paint smell…

then we removed all the foodstuff from the cupboards on the other side of the sink… and put them on the table in the dining room… it was a bit of a process, but we eventually removed the shelf liner… what a difference between the dark and light insides…

once the doors came down, I took them outside to remove hinges and knobs and then cleaned them…

while that was happening, the shelves were sanded and two coats of primer put on them…

coming along nicely…

busy day Wednesday… we went to Rona and picked up paint and a few other bits and pieces… then Best Buy for a couple more switches… finally Safeway for the last item for our supper…

once we got home, plastic was put all around the kitchen… the ceiling was scraped and sanded… plastic came down, floors were swept, paint went up and a new light fixture was installed…

it works perfectly with the switch that went in a few days ago, and which has a dimmer in it… it is beautiful and puts out a great deal of light…

the screen door was removed and had a good scrub down before going back into its track…

almost invisible now, lol…

the new switches were installed and we had bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches for supper…

woohoo…

had a great morning in the kitchen…

made venison stew from meat that my neighbour gave me…

used the final few tomatoes to make a pasta sauce…

also used the last of the potatoes in the bin to make mashed potatoes… there are enough for my supper with the stew and 2 additional meals…

next up will be cooking some spareribs for a few meals…

saw the most amazing sky tonight as I was walking through the house…

it always amazes me when I just happen to look out and see a gorgeous sunset or sunrise… there are so many moments that we miss because we aren’t looking, lol…

here is one of the photos that I took, just before my camera advised me it was exhausted…

I am feeling that a pattern is appearing in my days… I am getting up around eight or nine and then having a relaxing breakfast… today I had some chicken soup I’d made a few days ago in the Instant Pot… I hadn’t tasted it when I made it so was pleased with it this morning… I’d woken up with a stuffy nose, so chicken soup seemed like a great start to my day…

for my lunch I had some of the Mexican Chicken Soup I’d made at the same time…. I will make this again as it is very tasty…

a bit later I spent some time working at cleaning out a kitchen drawer… even went as far as putting a liner in as well… took a while for everything to dry and be ready to go back into the drawer and a number of things hit the garbage and pass-me-over box…

reading, watching tv, tidying, napping and cooking take up the rest of the day…

so far I am enjoying the relaxed quiet days…

worthwhile…

well, that was a worthwhile day…

got up late, had breakfast, watched some tv, and then spent the remainder of the day purging some kitchen cabinets…

there was some really old stuff up there, lol… filled a garbage can with out-of-date items and things that I haven’t used for years…

the final result made me happy…

now to see if I can keep it that tidy and not fill it up with things I am not going to use…

recently my son-in-law commented on the kitchen drawer when he went looking for a sharpie…

“looks like George has been back in this drawer”

for many years I blamed my beloved for the mess in that particular drawer… it is the only one that gets into this state…

I know that I cleaned it out after he died so I’m not sure how this happened…

hmmmm… do you have a drawer that collects all the junk…

I have a shelf in a kitchen cupboard where my mugs go…

a few taller ones go on the shelf above…

the goal is that when I get a new one I have to give one away…

over Christmas I have accumulated three new mugs, two as gifts and one that I picked up at the Assiniboine Park WildThings Gift Shop…

very happy that I was able to take out four mugs to put in the pass-me-over box…

while having tea with a friend today we discussed how much she loves my mugs… we decided that, as it gets more difficult to let a mug go, I shall pass it along to her, knowing the mug will be loved, lol…

this might just make it easier;-)…
