last night we brought home the last of the plants, which included two good sized orchids…

it has been bitterly cold the last few days, but it appears that they made the trip okay… my colleague warmed up the car and the plants were wrapped with plastic… both of these directives were provided by our office plant whisperer;-)…

tonight the final collection of items consisted of two boxes and my artwork…

we were especially careful with my canvas because I plan to replace the one that is currently on the purple living room wall…

tomorrow I won’t have anything to bring home, other than me...

woke up this morning thinking of my beloved… he’s been gone for seven and a half years, and I miss him every day…

I try not to use the same photos in more than one medium, but this is one of my favourites, so I am sharing it broadly…

he would have been 71… in his honour I made bacon and eggs over easy for breakfast, lol…

put on a purple plaid shirt and jeans… he was always in jeans and had a favourite plaid shirt that he often wore…

after a busy day, my grandson met me at work, we ran a few errands and had dinner out…

ended our meal with apple crisp and ice cream… my beloved made the best apple pie;-)…

lovely day filled with happy memories…

I’ve been having a bit of a giggle thinking about nametags…

when I started in my position, one of the most difficult things I had to do was figure out how to make nametags for events and I thought it was going to make me go out of my mind…

I can still remember walking back and forth to the printer again and again in an effort to get them done correctly…

last week I made my last set of nametags… the funny thing is they gave me about as much trouble as those first sets of nametags did…

for many years I haven’t had any trouble with nametags at all, so that made it even funnier as I thought about it…

there is always something that catches you up, lol…

had a delightful afternoon with a dear friend…

she makes decorating for the season so much fun… both of us are team players and we work well together…

we did some of the usual set-ups and then tried something new… we hung a collection of wreaths together on the wall… looks good…

I can’t even say how many collections I have… more and more I am bringing out less and less… I think that January and February might be a good time to go through the boxes and pass many items along to others…

the living room looks lovely and spending time together brought out my holiday spirit;-)…

well, I did it…

sorted out all the information, and there was a lot of it… decided to take the step… and announced my retirement as of the end of the year…

excited and a bit scared… going to be a new path on the journey…

reminds me of all the years I was at home from the time the girls were born until they were in high school…

going to take some time recharging and spending time with family… more opportunities to smell the flowers, lol…

will have time to get caught up on the newest technology, woo hoo…

then thinking of doing some volunteer work around social media and proofreading;-)…

fun times ahead…

wrote more about retirement a few years ago…

on this Remembrance Day, I watched the Ottawa ceremony on tv, thinking of the members of my family and all the others whose service provided us with the freedom we enjoy… I also thought proudly of my sick son-in-law who was participating in the service I was watching…

then when I was in the kitchen I decided to make a few dishes from those who have left us…

I started with homemade coleslaw which I’ve been craving for a while… it is based on a recipe from a special woman who often fed large groups of people, so my well-worn recipe has a few different options for measurements, lol…

then I made chicken and dumplings, one of my mom’s recipes…

finally I decided on meatballs and sauce… I used store-bought meatballs but made my dad’s homemade sauce… the recipe is just in my head… I cooked spaghetti and packaged meals for lunches and suppers this week…

will share some of these meals as I don’t like to freeze things if I don’t have to;-)…

ended the evening with my BS buddies… I truly am blessed…

been thinking of my dad a lot recently… his birthday was in November and he spent time overseas as a soldier, so during these days of remembrance it just seems right to look back at some lovely memories…

this photo is from Then to Now, the history of La Salle, Manitoba…

a gentle man, in all ways… he spoke quietly but if you were in trouble you knew it… not that you’d be in trouble very often…

he always saw the best in people, which made him particularly suited for his work with Canada Manpower where he helped individuals figure out what type of work they were best suited for, and then found them an appropriate position… in those days you might only have one or two jobs in your career…

at home, he took in strays… not animals, lol, people… we would often have someone staying with us who needed a safe place to regroup for a while…

he was wise and generous… one of those people who always had a thoughtful opinion when you needed it, although, only when asked… and would give you the shirt off his back, or anything else he had, if he felt it would help…

he has been gone for over thirty years but I can still hear his wisdom…

I miss you dad…

just reached 350 followers on WordPress…

laughed the other day when a friend introduced me and said that I had 3000 followers… really made me giggle, lol… 300… 3000… very close;-)…

it has taken six years to reach that number…

had me thinking of the changes over that time… how the blog has gone from information on what to do when you become a widow/widower to my daily life…

my life really has been blessed… as I continue to put on those big girl pants…
