last night as I was in the hot tub, I was thinking of some of the amazing people I have worked for and with…

the one whom one of my daughters is named after…

the one who became a substitute father…

the one who taught me about strength…

the one who reminded me of all my abilities and encouraged me to stretch…

the ones who taught me patience, lol…

the ones who have become part of my life;-)…

as I contemplate them I realize again what a blessed life I have led…

I spent a lovely and quiet hour sitting right next to the pond this morning…

I had planned to turn the waterfall on as soon as I got into the garden, but decided to sit close to the pond and watch the fish…

yesterday, when I was in the pond cleaning it up, I spotted a baby swimming by… they move really quickly, so I only saw it for a moment…

my goal this morning was to check for any others that might be there…

and I spotted two… maybe the whitish one I saw yesterday and an actual gold one… they are much harder to spot in the pond as they look black… of course I didn’t get any pictures, lol…

great excitement and I will keep watch for more;-)…

sure miss the water hyacinth as its roots were a wonderful safe hiding place for babies as they started their journey as the goldfish eat them when they are very small…

this morning I sprinkled poppy seeds in the garden… hope they take… the poppies are always the first flower to bloom… they self-seed and some years there are just one or two and other years there are lots of blooms… it is amazing that they come back, even after the garden bed was completely dug up eight years ago…

I have also been enjoying the morning glory seedlings… I can hardly wait to plant them outside;-)…

I can see morning glories everywhere;-)…

I searched through my photos and it looks like August 11 was the first time I took a photo of the buds on the mandevilla… this was the first time this summer that this houseplant has even started to get buds…

this morning, 26 days later, the first bloom is open…

they take an incredible amount of time to open;-)…

the water lilies are doing very well and I think the fish are enjoying the shade they provide…

I purchased two from RPGC and have been checking daily in the hope that there might be a bud coming…

on July 10 I spotted something that might prove to be one…

I’ve been checking everyday and was thrilled to discover I was right…

it takes a long time for one to emerge from the base of the pot and climb up through a couple of feet of water…

waited patiently… and on Sunday it popped to the surface…

yesterday, it opened a little bit and today it opened completely;-)…

I’ve been working on a few technology projects, including reading a very long manual, lol… I am amazed at how easily and quickly I seem to have forgotten how to spend a serious amount of time learning…

I’ve also been learning and sharing information on how to make programs work… this makes me think about what a great job those who provide this type of information over the phone or computer do… clearly, they are amazing and should get lots of kudos…

it takes excellent understanding and clear directions to help get something working for someone from a distance… I think of my son-in-law who climbs into my computer from away and figures out the problem and either fixes it, or walks me through the process to get things working again… all without a single complaint about what I might have done that may have caused the problem in the first place…

thinking this is good practice in patience and happy to be relearning this skill…

what a lovely day…

started with an early wake up, a drive across town, a packed up truck with a boat behind it… I love the boat…

then we drove to Falcon Lake, put the boat into the water and went fishing… my son-in-law caught a fish right away… then we waited patiently for the fish and they never came… quite a while later the sky clouded over and we headed in to the dock…

put the boat back on the trailer and just got the cover on it when it started to spit… had to run to the store for a lock and it poured all the way there and back… then it stopped for about two minutes… just long enough to get the lock on…

afterwards we went out for lunch, drove around to check out our campsite for next week, and headed home…

the closer we got to the city the clearer the sky became;-)… now it is pouring here, lol…

driving, independence, patience

as I was heading toward the Dollar Store this morning I ended up behind a Driver Training Car…

made me think of a number of things… George’s mom, who, when George’s dad died, decided that the bus was just fine for her so she never did drive… my mom, who in her late 50s decided she would learn to drive and get herself to the places she needed to go… she took lessons and went out and got that driver’s license… she was very proud of it and enjoyed the independence… the sad day when my dad had to admit it was too difficult for him to drive anymore and gave up the car keys… it was so hard for him to do…

I’ve been driving since I turned 16… at that time I bought a brand new car with my mom and dad and drove my dad to work every day… he had emphysema and driving took a lot of energy, and in the winter the cold was very hard on him… so, I drove him to work, and then myself to school… at the end of the day I would pick him up and bring him home… so, I’ve been driving for a long time…

a few weeks before George died I took the car to work… that was unusual, because if I needed a ride to or from work, and my regular ride wasn’t available, George would drop me off and pick me up…  one of my colleagues commented that they didn’t know I could drive…

our last drive through the park...

our last drive through the park…

I remember how, when I was home with the girls, George would ride his bike or take the bus so that I wouldn’t be stuck at home…

George loved to drive… he often regaled me with stories of being out in the country with his dad in their big old boat of a car and practicing on ice, and gravel, and other strange conditions… and when we were in Halifax on a family vacation, he drove around the parking lot – literally in circles – he laughed about that for years…

when we were coming home from a visit to Calgary, I remember how he patiently sat beside me while I drove on the divided highway, after I got my nerve up because I abhorred highway driving…  I am sure he was gripping the door handle, but he never showed it…

he didn’t like it when I drove, not because I wasn’t a good driver, he just preferred his driving… so it was much easier for him to drop me off and pick me up than for me to take the car…

so it was funny when my colleague made that comment…

snowflake on car window...

snowflake on car window…

of course now I can drive the car whenever I want, even when I don’t want, lol…
