on Thursday I cleaned the poppy bird feeder and attached it to the front rail…

I noticed that I’d set it out a bit earlier last year…

I also dug out two poppies to put on my jacket and t-shirt…

last year I had purchased some little button pins to keep from losing them, lol…

I still make sure to make a donation as, before the pin, I ended up losing a couple and needing to replace them, lol…

yesterday I went into the garden and pulled out the metal poppy… luckily the ground wasn’t too frozen…

brought it into the house, gave it a good scrubbing and then took it out to the front step…

I found two small bungee cords to attach it to the rail… it looks pretty good…

and today I pulled out my poppy with the cool centrepiece and put it on my coat…

we must not forget…

we got our poppies a week ago and I put the buttons on them so they won’t get lost… I’ve been wearing mine daily, even though I don’t go out much, lol…

I’d seen something on social media about scanning your poppy to read a story about a veteran;-)…

Sunday morning I came across a link that took me to a story about a fallen soldier once I scanned my poppy…

I tried it on another poppy and got another story…

here is the link so that you can scan yours;-)…

what a wonderful use of technology;-)…

on November 1st I took down the ghost from the front step… it was difficult, because the sheet had frozen into the step, lol…

then I took the poppy bird feeder that I received as a Christmas gift and tied it to the rail… this was a process, because it was cold and my fingers kept trying to stick to the metal, lol…

looks pretty good, right;-)…

I put a poppy on the front door…

had to search through the containers at the front door to find it as I haven’t been out anywhere recently where I could get a few…

I did this last year as well…

because I am not going out much there isn’t anywhere to wear it… seems like a small act, but the best I can do…

and I made an online donation to the mypoppy.ca campaign…

apparently I chose my mom when I did the same thing a few years ago… made me giggle because I first thought of doing one for my dad, lol… they both served during World War II…

the above information comes from Then and Now, The History of La Salle, Manitoba…

so, I went ahead and made a second donation in his honour;-)…

have to be fair, lol…

many in my family have served… both my parents, my father-in-law, uncles and my son-in-law… as I watched the service on Parliament Hill, as I have done for many years, I was remembering the sacrifices made by Canadians to make my life safe…

last year I put my poppy on the door as I didn’t leave the house at all…

this year I’ve worn it a few times when I’ve been outside…

then I put it back on the door…

I should have made a larger one for the door…

picked up a poppy the other day…

dug around and found a backing piece and put the poppy on my jacket… I hate to lose them…

it feels important to wear this sign of respect for our veterans and those who serve now…

I remember my mom and dad, my father-in-law and my son-in-law…

today I made a pilgrimage to the statue that represents the women who served in World War I and II… it is located close to many other war memorials down by the legislature…

it was very cold out and my fingers were frozen by the time I was finished taking photos…

it was heartwarming to see that someone had drawn a heart in the snow right beside the monument…

my mom was part of the organization that made sure this reminder of women’s place in the wars was visible…

my final action before leaving was to remove my poppy and leave it at the foot of the monument…

a moving and emotional moment…

been thinking about poppies…

over the last forty years we’ve always had poppies in the garden… some years there would be fifteen or twenty … other years, maybe three…

the spring following George’s death there were over fifty…

it was amazing and so beautiful… seemed like he was here with me…

this year there are plants, but not a single bloom…

this morning I drove to the office with some mums for company…

the base was wrapped in one of my cloth bags, in case the person getting them was in the office when I arrived… although they weren’t really hidden, lol… but they were lovely company for me and brightened up the drive…

and then I spotted a hot air balloon gently floating across the sky… want to take another ride in one of those…

what a treat…

before leaving home I checked out the poppy bloom in the garden… the sun was shining on it and made for a beautiful picture…

recently had a conversation about being a mum and how rewarding it can be… and some of the differences amongst children and their responses to life…

able to enjoy some time in the sunshine…

remembering to spend time outdoors when it actually shines helps keep me happy…
