one of the great things about retirement is having the opportunity to watch as things unfold…

like this orchid which has been coming along nicely for a while…

yesterday at 8:48 am it was just starting to unfurl…

and at 1:55 pm it looked like this…

finally it was open at 9:14 am this morning…

and there is another bud;-)…

recently I wandered around my space and took photos of all the blooming or nearly blooming things…

January and February are often harder months for me and having flowers blooming really lifts my spirits…

so much beauty in this space and I am grateful;-)…

decided recently that it was time to change out the living room table…

so I the removed all the purple and silver ornaments and put them away…

then collected the books I haven’t read yet and inserted them into the four spaces… my neighbour has been sharing books with me and I am a little behind in my reading…

I also put the blooming amaryllis, a violet, and the last of the New Year’s bouquet on it…

looking at the table should encourage me to make more time for reading;-)…

had some fun with my bouquet… it is changing… the orchid stalk was removed and now the carnations are getting ready to come out…

used the table from the hot tub, a purple sweater, and the purple wall to get a few shots…

it was fun to gather up the items and set up for the shoot…

and the photos came out quite well…

this year my Christmas project was Post-It notes made with one of my photos on them…

took a while to decide on just the correct picture… in the end I chose a picture of a poppy that I took in the garden this summer… my Ottawa kids did some work removing the background for me…

always happy when I am able to use one of my photographs for a project…

I also produced cards with four different winter pictures to go with them…

working with my art always fills me with happiness…

I’ve been putting a cushion behind me when I sit on the couch and they tend to fall over when I get up, so I am constantly adjusting them as I sit…

the other day I used a blanket to hold them in place, but it was just a bit too short…

then I tried a different blanket which is a bit bigger…

I think it looks good and keeps the cushion in place when I get up and down…

and a bit more purple never hurt;-)…

so, then I did the same thing in the den…

brightens it up nicely…

had a lovely New Year’s day…

I watched the Rose Parade which was something we’ve done with my parents for years…

dear friends stopped by to first-foot me… and brought the usual coal, orange, cookies, alcohol, with a beautiful card… and a gorgeous bouquet of orchids and allium… my bouquet from last week is just on its last legs so the timing was perfect…

orchids are one of my favourites and allium was one of my beloved’s…

after that, I made a delicious steak and lobster meal for my lunch… it is usually the meal for New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day dinner…

I decided on lunch so the day would be easier… and to broil instead of barbecue as it was so cold out…

it turned out delicious and then I spent the day watching movies…

and carrying the flowers from room to room, lol…

this morning there was an extreme cold warning, so I put on two pairs of pants, a vest, my purple Canada Goose jacket, mitts, and headed to the end of the sidewalk…

last night the snow plows cleaned the street so there was quite a pile of snow left at the street end of the sidewalk…

it must have been about two feet deep and two feet across… I was thrilled to discover that it wasn’t full of ice chunks and had not frozen into a solid clump…
