woke up very early and was able to enjoy the sunrise… 

  
caught this out the upstairs window…

took this picture of the car as I was heading out this afternoon…

  
you can see the sun shining on the hood… there is very little snow on the ground and it was plus 4 as I drove away…

then I headed to Birchwood Toyota… signed lots of papers… sorry trees…

  
took a walk in the amazing warm weather… what a treat we have been enjoying…

got a new licence plate…

  
and drove away in my new Corolla…

  
her name is Shadow… she is blue crush metallic in colour and if she is in the shade, she looks kind of purple…

got a call just over a week ago from my car dealer wanting my vehicle… ended up with the 2016 model at thirty dollars less a month… pretty good deal…

after picking her up I ran a few errands and started getting used to her… heating system is a bit fancier and the big splurge was a car starter… not really sure I need that as the car is usually in the garage, but when I’m out it will be nice to start warming up before I get in…

felt a bit sad to leave the old car behind, as I’d only had it for two years, and it was the first car I got on my own…

as I was driving home I thought back to the first new car I drove off the lot…

it was forty-eight years ago and I drove a beautiful Chevelle home that day… I had bought it together with my dad… can remember the fear that I would drive into something or another car would drive into me… didn’t want to get the first scratch on it…

drove that car for over eleven great years…

another big girl pants kind of day… but it was more excitement than anything else today:-)…

been getting lots of compliments on my hair lately…

  
made me remember back to the first time I coloured it…

had been working in a very toxic environment and was trying to wear red every day… red is a colour that makes me feel strong and I really needed to find strength wherever I could… didn’t have that many red clothes so I decided to have a little bit of red put into my hair…

never been coloured before, but I was desperate to feel some type of protection…

it was just a tiny bit at the front of my head which could hardly be seen, but I had red on every day… helped make me feel stronger as I struggled to get through those very difficult days…

not long after I got out of that bad spot I decided to put purple in my hair…

tried a few systems that I put in myself, but the colour would wash out with every shampoo…

eventually found a place that used allum and had my hair professionally done… seems silly to dye such short hair but it lasts a long time and doesn’t leave any colour behind on towels or pillows, lol…

have tried having a tiny bit in and other times there has been a lot… outside in the sun it always looks amazing…

my hairdresser did a great job this time and it looks very nice…

does make me giggle when someone says “I like your hair” because I don’t even think about it anymore… it is just part of me…

interesting how we get to a certain place in our lives…

so happy to get my hair purpled today… was supposed to have happened on Monday but something came up and we had to rebook…

my hair has been too long since last week and I have really forced myself not to go and get it cut… colouring is much easier the longer the hair is…

  
waiting for the cooking portion to be complete… as I left the house in Charleswood I watched this deer in the next yard…

  
so pretty… and the sunlight shining was lovely too…

popped into the Safeway store and picked up groceries… good sales today… had six or seven bags which included some items for Christmas…

got home, put everything away and had a short nap…

  
feels great and looks good too… a couple of people commented on it as I was shopping…

spent the evening making soup for Souper Thursday at the office… seemed like making soup on the first day of fall was good timing… 

  
decided on two types so there are offerings for a variety of dietary issues… 

first one is zucchini basil… simple, easy and tasty… 

  
my daughter found the recipe on Pinterest when her garden kept producing multiple zucchini along with lots of basil…

  
tastes very nice… hope everyone likes it as much as I do… 

I sure do love my purple immersion blender… it makes finishing soup so easy… using the regular blender is much more time consuming and messy, lol…

  
second one is really a made-up butternut squash soup… read a few recipes but really just went off on my own with what I had in the fridge and pantry…

  
this one was based on a crockpot recipe but I made it in my soup/pasta pot… squash, Granny Smith apple, onion, potato, chicken stock, spices and coconut milk… even put some red pepper flakes in it…

  
tastes pretty fine, with a bit of a bite…

as always when I’m cooking, I spend the time thinking of the people I’m going to feed as I work… makes the whole process much more meaningful for me…

for years I cooked for many – for various family, friend and catering events… these days it is usually for my kids, so I enjoy the opportunities to prepare something for others…

only down side is the fact that the dishwasher is on the fritz… hoping my son-in-law can come and clean out the spray arms which should fix the problem…

well, all done and in the fridge ready to go… lunch should be good…

when I was at the first Dollarama gathering the bits and pieces for the Easter tablescape, I purchased two lovely glasses… they are an interesting shape and have a bit of purple around the bottom…

they fit on the shelf in the cupboard, which is important and I really like the feel of them in my hand…

yesterday I went back and picked up eight more…  

tossed out the old ones which had turned all foggy from the dishwasher and must have been at least ten years old… they weren’t even good enough to donate, lol…

finding glasses that feel good in my hand always seems difficult, but I am pleased with these ones…

also picked up a couple of bowls with the same pattern…

giggling to myself tonight after feeding the fish… they were in such a hurry to eat that they splashed my face, hands and shirt… they are only getting fed once a day now and are feeling like they are suffering…

today I ran across the street to have a few batteries replaced… one was for the garage door opener and the second was for my camera remote control…

happy about the remote for the camera as it was getting difficult to take a picture without pointing the remote straight at the camera… fairly easy to see I was using it, lol…

the camera does have a timer on it but I haven’t used it much…

while I was there I spotted a cute watch and decided it was just what I needed… and, it was on sale… amazingly, it is purple…

thankfully the owner was able to set it for me… it did cause him a bit of trouble as the watch was feeling a bit nostalgic for the 24 hour clock…

checked the time tonight and at six there was still light outside… this is very exciting…

had to take the car to work today so after I got off I decided to stop at the credit union to deposit a cheque and get some cash… traffic along Portage was brutal and I was worried I wasn’t going to make it before they closed at five, but I just snuck in under the wire…

next, went to Home Outfitters where I had a gift card from over a year ago… just found it last month… thought I would check out what type of goodies they had that I might need…

had a lovely wander around and chose a few fun things…

got a silicone oven mitt on sale, a new cookie sheet to replace one of the very stained and bent ones in the cupboard, a cute scarf hanger which might hold the scarves that are currently on three different hangers… and finally a purple mini food processor (on sale too)…

it was great fun…

had shrimp for dinner, went out for a hot tub and watched a bit of TV…

really needed to add some colour to my day so found this shot from the summer… I do love my morning glories…

got a lovely surprise today…

my friend brought me a gorgeous purple orchid…

it was a thank you for using my car… I’m happy to lend it to her… it always comes back filled with gas and freshly washed… I still don’t like to take it to the car wash…

during the winter I don’t take it out much so it is always happy to get a drive in, lol…

I was so happy because I’ve been trying to get out and pick an orchid up for the house… they are wonderful because they flower for a long time…

I do tend to treat flowering plants like cut flowers… enjoy them until they die off…

was particularly lovely, as I had spent the day at home… still wasn’t feeling well so gave in and climbed back into bed this morning…

had a hot tub in the afternoon and watched the squirrel come down through the trees like they were stairs… didn’t see any birds even though the sun was shining… it shone for a good portion of the day which was also very nice as it has been dull for ages…

hoping to feel much better in the morning…

mostly a quiet day…

watched tv and then worked on the picture frames to go on the staircase wall…

been planning and thinking about these frames for a number of months…

purchased the frames from IKEA and they have been sitting on a shelf waiting…

while the kids were here at Christmas, we decided to use water lily pictures which I have taken over the years… took quite a while to come to that decision because I have taken many flower pictures and couldn’t decide which ones to choose…

in the end the water lilies called to me as they are in water – one of my favourite things, and have beautiful flowers…

then I had to choose fifteen… well I think I ended up with about twenty five, lol…

was going to have them printed at Staples but decided a few days ago to print a few at home and see how they looked…

this morning I finally dug out the pliers so that I could open the back of the frames and put a couple in…

slow process, as I had to move each picture around to see the best view… then I had to print them a few at a time…

eventually I chose five pink, five white and five purple…

finished them just before the kids arrived…

next step will be to hang them…

tomorrow is my soup day…

seemed to have trouble deciding what to make… been thinking about it for at least a week and didn’t make a final decision until today…

had everything at home so didn’t have to run out to the store which was great because we’ve had a bit of snow and my shoveler hasn’t made it over just yet…

had a good time preparing… cooked up carrots, celery, onion and garlic… first time I’ve used this new purple pot, lol…

put in spices, broth and tomatoes and simmered it for a long time…

just finished using my purple immersion blender to complete it… once it cools down it will go into the fridge and be ready for tomorrow’s lunch…
