not too long ago my daughter sent me photos of two books that she thought I might like… they were at Costco and she wondered if I wanted her to buy and mail them to me…

I thought they looked good, but said I would see if the kids here could pick them up for me;-)…

a few days ago a friend checked to see if I needed anything from Costco and I mentioned these books…

she picked them up for me and came by today to drop them off… I asked if she had time for coffee and she said she did if I was okay with her coming into the house…

I feel like I am getting more comfortable with having individuals inside these days…

we talked about art, family treasures, grandkids, the weather, and food… a great visit…

now I have a bit more reading to do;-)…

I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately…

today I spent most of the time in the living room, with the light on, as it has been raining off and on the whole time…

besides enjoying my book I’ve also watched birds and bunnies and listened to thunder roll across the sky…

there were chickadees and house finches and juncos… a squirrel has been trying to get to the feeder on the window and I kept rapping on the window to discourage it, lol…

across the street, three bunnies have spent a good portion of the day snacking on goodies in the grass… the rain has certainly melted most of the snow, so I guess new treats have come to light…

as I write this, there is even more thunder and now a bit of lightning…

not sure if I will finish the book today…

decided recently that it was time to change out the living room table…

so I the removed all the purple and silver ornaments and put them away…

then collected the books I haven’t read yet and inserted them into the four spaces… my neighbour has been sharing books with me and I am a little behind in my reading…

I also put the blooming amaryllis, a violet, and the last of the New Year’s bouquet on it…

looking at the table should encourage me to make more time for reading;-)…

I’ve been thinking a lot about how blessed and fortunate I am… and I’ve been taking time to focus on gratitude…

yesterday I spent a few minutes enjoying this sunrise from the bedroom window…

it was so pretty and the fact that I had the time to enjoy it is such a gift…

today I spent a good portion of the day sitting in the living room, beside the Christmas tree, reading a book by one of my favourite authors, and watching the various birds come and go from the feeders… even though it was foggy outside it was a lovely way to spend time…

I took this photo this evening…

most presents are wrapped, nearly all cards are written, and advent treats have been opened for the day…

now it is off to bed I go;-)…

had a delightful afternoon reading and watching my feathered friends at the window feeder…

I was reminded of the quote on yesterday’s Christmas card:

having the time and space to just sit and watch the birds, and read in between their visits, was and is a real gift…

and the beauty of the House Finch couple made me happy…

had an enjoyable time watching all my feathered friends flitting about the garden…

I think the birdies were happy that the grass has been mowed as well, lol…

dirt baths, bug collecting in the grass, checking out all the feeders, and drinking at the pond…

some guests who haven’t been around all summer are stopping by so I think we are getting close to migration time…

some days it is nearly impossible to focus on my book because there is so much going on;-)…

I’ve been frustrated for a long time because I couldn’t find my Kobo reader… I think I started the search around May…

I came across it ages before that and put it away carefully, sigh… at that point I also had no idea where the charger was for it…

so, I knew it was here, and I’d been searching everywhere for it, particularly after my daughter suggested that one of the universal chargers would likely power it up…

I’ve been using the tablet, but that only works in the house due to the way that the light bounces off it outside… so that meant I needed paper books all summer, lol… I still have one last book from my last online summer purchases…

this morning I was tidying in the bedroom and there it was tucked in along the edge of one of the shelves…

honestly…

and I even found a charger that worked, from my old Blackberry, lol…

woohoo… gonna get reading;-)…

I’ve been spending a bit more time in the living room, enjoying the lights, reading and listening to music…

sometimes the fish are very noisy… when they are searching for food they toss around the rocks in the bottom of the tank…

these are river rocks, not fish tank gravel, so when they knock them over it produces quite the sound, lol…

it amazes me that they can lift them at all and of course, when I tried to catch them at it, they stopped, lol…

I’ve been thinking of a friend’s mother who used fur coats as draft stoppers… she had numerous fur coats and it just seemed like the funniest thing to me, although even in those days people were no longer wearing fur, so it was a good use of the coats, lol…

there is a vertical space along the bottom of my front door and I have been trying to figure out what needs to be done to fix it…

my handiperson is supposed to be coming before too long to check it out, but as I sit reading in the living room there is quite a cold draft across the floor…

this afternoon I took one of my winter coats and hung it on the doorknob and I think it is stopping the cold air;-)… or at least slowing it down…

too funny, lol…

spent the afternoon reading in the living room and decided to move the avocado plant and orchids that have been in the window…

they have grown enough that they block my view of the bird feeders… I anticipate spending a lot of time watching the birds over the next six months…

I’m planning to repurpose the dining room table as a bit of a garden for the next while… not going to be having anyone over to eat there, lol…
