last night I picked up roses for my colleagues and was touched when my florist advised she had added an extra one to be sure that I got one…

on the weekend I made valentines for everyone using my pictures, an app to put words on them, and wireless printing… lots of fun… currently I have one as the wallpaper on my phone…

always enjoyable to treat them…

my beloved really loved Valentine’s Day… he always got me roses and chocolates and made sure that both of the girls received a rose too…

I still send roses to the girls…

often we’d have our favourite steak and lobster for dinner;-)…

been feeling a little sorry for myself without him, so preparing treats for others helps me overcome that feeling…

had a lovely day at work… wore red, had snacks and decided I would order a heart shaped pizza for supper as a treat for me…

it was the spicy perogy, which I really like… made a salad to complete my meal…

maybe I will finish off a small piece of sugar-free Berrylicious from Decadence Chocolates as a final treat…

been missing my beloved a lot lately…

tonight as I was looking through photos I came across a few that reminded me of him…

this picture of maple leaves, which I took while visiting Cyndi in Ottawa reminded me of a great photo we took in Courtenay of him holding a ginormous maple leaf as we were walking through Cathedral Grove…

on Saturday I turned on the in-floor heating because it is getting cooler… I can remember George installing it in 2009 when we renovated the bathroom… at the time we decided not to put an additional piece of it in front of the sink, thinking it would radiate over… not, lol…

this morning glory reminded me of my 2010 six week stint in the hospital where he brought me photos every day of one of the morning glories that were blooming…

tonight a contractor came by to fix a couple of holes in the bedroom ceiling… George would have fixed that…

and finally, this rose, blooming in the garden… I cannot even guesstimate how many roses he brought me in our life together…

I truly have been blessed over the years… and even now as I am able to enjoy these wonderful memories…

things can change in the blink of an eye…

recently a number of women in my circles have been dealing with very difficult situations… loss of parents, illness of partners and children, employment concerns…

often there is little to do besides sending positive energy and love over the airwaves… spending time holding them in thought and prayer feels like a good use of time…

good to remember to smell the roses, or in this case, tulips…

1825… days since my beloved left me… 261 weeks… 60 months… 

hard to believe so much time has gone by… although it also feels like it was just a moment ago…

he was my best friend, lover, staunch supporter, caregiver, sounding board, helper, chauffeur, shopper, masseuse, gardener, and…

as each anniversary of his passing has come and gone I have been through a variety of emotions… profound sadness, loneliness, and many tears…

some years it has been less difficult than others, but it never has a clear path… not more difficult at the beginning and less so as time has gone by… 

the first year my colleagues all wore purple to show their support to mark the day… sweet and supportive…

received flowers from the kids today…beautiful… the orchids are nearly identical to the ones from graduation… my mauve dress and George’s matching turtleneck were designed and made by a friend and I wore a beautiful orchid corsage on my wrist… that was a very long time ago, lol…

and of course the roses… my romantic husband brought me hundreds over the years…

a lovely treat and they brought back some special memories…

as I was heading out of the driveway took a shot of the roses which are just starting to open…


rather funny because the flower bed they are in is nearly completely overgrown with grass… hoping to get some help soon to clean this bed up… but great to see the blooms, lol…

caught sight of this just before reaching the office…

a man with a very lovely murse, or man purse… not a great pic because I took it through the front window of the car…

reminded me of my beloved… he carried a murse for years… well before it was the cool thing to do… used to drive the girls crazy, particularly when they were teenagers…

looking at the rest of the garden today I am really missing him… he loved the garden and worked in it all the time… much harder worker than I out there… can see that now…

this morning a new colleague brought some in for another colleague and I…

she took a picture of the two of us with them…


such a lovely treat… what a thoughtful thing to do… great start to the day…

up early and enjoyed time in the hot tub… missing my beloved today… not always sure why it is more pronounced some days, but have learned to just feel my way through it…

happily was able to meet the kids for brunch… really miss them when we can’t get together on the weekend…

before I left the house I took some pictures of various blooms…


these are the last two flowers on the orchid which came from IKEA in October… was so thrilled to see a new stem starting with tiny buds on it…

then I moved the mandevilla and mini roses to the dining room table, where the light shone on them nicely…


decided to start walking to the restaurant and meet the kids on the way… lots of yellow flowers happily growing everywhere I looked, lol…


also saw quite a few blooming bleeding hearts on my walk…


once we got home took a few shots of the boys…

while we were visiting, my daughter spotted these feathered friends at the feeder…


very exciting… maybe the weather is going to warm up and we will see more of them…

ended the day with a phone call from my Ottawa daughter…

family is so special… happy to have opportunities to spend time with them…

I have celebrated all the special days of the year forever and I love doing that… miss my beloved who also enjoyed holidays, particularly Valentine’s Day… he always made sure that both of the girls and I got roses… I often wear the jacket that he gave me on our last Valentine’s day… 

had roses delivered to the office for my colleagues…

  
put them out so everyone could choose one… did it yesterday as four of them were not in today…

  
I enjoy surprising people with treats and they are an amazing group of individuals so it makes me very happy to show them how special each of them is…

  
it is always such fun to see which one each person chooses… makes me happy…

today after lunch when I got back to the office from yoga there was a card and gift on my desk…

  
the card was filled with lovely expressions of thanks from all my colleagues, and a gift certificate to Thermea…

  
what a wonderful surprise… brought me to tears… as I said, a special group of individuals…

a very special Valentine memory…

absolutely gorgeous day…

took a walk to the grocery store to pick up a few things for tomorrow’s dinner…

came across this beautiful tree… admired it when I passed it the first time and had to stop to take a picture when I came back…

  
also got a shot of some Virginia creeper berries…

  
there aren’t any leaves left on them… that frost last week did a lot of plants in…

the ladybugs have been out in full force for the last few days… yesterday there were five at once on the bedroom window…

today they were on the door when I left the house, landed on me as I was walking and were inside and outside the house…

   

not sure why they are everywhere… from a bit of reading it looks like the warm weather might have woken them up from hibernation…

I also spent some time preparing vegetables, more stuffing and cranberry sauce…

  
friends are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary which made me spend a bit of time remembering ours… it was when I was in hospital with pancreatitis and waiting for gall bladder surgery… we had missed a trip to the coast to see the kids because I got sick…

on our anniversary George brought in a basket with 40 roses in it… it was amazing… at night they had to put it into the hall because the perfume was so strong, lol… he was such a romantic…

good times…
