2017 Ottawa day 10…

up early and prepared homemade macaroni and cheese… one of my daughter’s favourites…

packed up all my stuff, including a new Lug bag that my daughter got for me a few months ago…

then we headed to the Mall for a little bit of shopping… in the end she found a jacket and shorts and I got a new phone case…

we spent a fun hour at a cool kitchen store checking out all types of gadgets…

home to pick up the luggage, load the paddleboard on the roof and make our way to the airport…

had a snack and I headed through security to catch my flight…

from goodbye to Ottawa, the WestJet Connect app showing we were over Winnipeg, to coming in over the river and touchdown…

I had a great visit and enjoyed every minute…

as I was walking down the ramp to the airplane I was thinking of how blessed I have been… travelling by air has become old hat and having the resources, both financial and time, that allow me to visit my kids…

began our day at the Kingston Public Market where we picked up veggies, flowers, and treats to take home…

it is a cute little Market with many food vendors and artisans… found some maple syrup and pottery to bring home…

stopped into a bakery, an Italian grocery store and a butcher shop to finish off the items needed for our dinner…

then it was off to Sydenham Lake to christen the new SUP…

my daughter had a lovely paddle on it and enjoyed every minute…

after her first round she came in and gave me instructions and assistance to give it a try…

my goodness it is difficult… at one point I asked what was making the board wobble so much and she announced it was me, lol… took a short paddle after she helped me onto the board, then did kneeling paddle boarding… rested for a few minutes and did one more round of the standing up version… lots of fun but exhausting;-)…

I would do it again, as long as someone was there to get me up on it…

fabulous steak dinner with beets, fingerling potatoes and green beans…

now for a movie and then to bed…

continued with the preparations for my trip…

ran out this morning to pick up a bit more chocolate to take with me…

on my way out I, of course, had to take photos of the morning glories that were blooming…

everything was rather thirsty but I didn’t have time then to water…

picked up treats at a few stores, including lunch for when I got home…

it was delicious…

my grandsons stopped by because I was hoping to move some furniture and needed a bit of help… sadly, after we moved a few things, we discovered that the biggest piece wasn’t going to make it through the hallway… oh well, so much for that…

since then I’ve spent time napping, watching some sports on tv… and fixing my Fitbit app so that my steps transfer to MyFitnessPal… hurray…

beginning preparations for my visit to Ottawa soon…

gathering items to take with me and on the list is chocolate… my daughter is becoming an expert on the subject…

she has a few favourites from various chocolate shops around town…

today I picked up a few things from Morden’s…

arrived two minutes before they closed as traffic was bad because of all the construction… they were so gracious and provided excellent customer service, even at those last few minutes before closing…

picked up a few bars and the darkest chocolate they had… also got some of their cashews…

George loved cashews and they made me think of him as I was snacking on a handful tonight…

on a roll with chocolate today… last night on our way home we stopped at a new bakery in the neighbourhood and I picked up this chocolate ganache tart…

took it to the office, cut it into eight tiny pieces and shared it with my colleagues… this works very well for me because I get a taste of something but then don’t have tons of it… and it’s fun to share…

still have a bit of time to get to her other favourites so I have the necessary items when I arrive there, lol…

looking forward to the shopping and the trip…

went to the Farmers Market today and picked up a few things…

got tiny cucumbers and potatoes, a cauliflower, peas, two kinds of buns, a chocolate bar and 3 purple glads…

as I walked home with my treasures lots of people commented on the gladioli…

for dinner I had roasted country style spareribs along with new potatoes and dill, beets from last week, and cucumbers in vinegar and water… delicious…

wonderful to have access to fresh food so close to the office…

life is good…

being as I’m on holiday, it seemed only fitting that I should get a few treats;-)…

yesterday I picked up this cute case to add to my iPhone case collection… I also got a clear one and will have to choose a few of my pictures to print and put in it…


I’ve been changing up my cases on a regular basis and for the last few weeks was using the one that holds a credit card… works great but will only hold one card and I really need to carry two… 

I also picked up some clothes… a warm hoodie, a long sleeve t-shirt and a pair of patterned pants…


my final treat was this morning when I found three cute plates…


I’ve been enjoying eating off different plates for the last while, and have been adding to my collection of fun dinner ware… only need one so it isn’t too expensive to add a few new ones… the two tree ones are Corelle which also means they can go into the dishwasher, and won’t break…

happy holidays… lots of treats;-)…

started yesterday with a morning glory sighting… 

they are just so stunning… make me smile every time I see one… I am always astonished at the light that seems to pour out of the centre of them…

it was a lovely day so we had lunch in the Millennium Park… the sun was shining and Emptyful was misting rather nicely over us…

another colleague walked by and took this great shot of the four of us…


once we were finished eating a few of us walked over and around the Downtown Farmers Market… we were pretty quick but I was so happy to have found peas and small cucumbers…


what a haul… had a few last night and they are delicious…

ah, summer…

was reminded last night that I had agreed to watch the younger boys today while their parents went to a wedding as the oldest was working…

I had completely forgotten… took it very easy this morning, lol…

when the boys were dropped off we went shopping for a few Canada Day items, groceries for supper and to make spinach dip…

they were very well behaved while we were out so for a snack got fruit smoothies and doughnuts… we found a few towels, some nifty glow flags and a Canada Day outfit for me…

it  rained off and on for a good portion of the day, so when mom and dad stopped in for a quick visit they had to use an umbrella on their way out… they looked very dapper;-)…

we made the spinach dip for the birthday celebration tomorrow and got chicken wings cooking for dinner… there was some Wii bowling happening, and when the oldest arrived to pick up his brothers we took a selfie and had supper…

campfire baked potatoes and Caesar salad finished off the meal… everyone helped clean up and then they headed home…

watching the Nitro World Games on tv and then early to bed… all this fun can wear a person out;-)…

spent some time in the garden this morning… the dandelions were so tall that I couldn’t bear to sit outside looking at them so I mowed the grass…

then I pulled weeds and set out the cushions before I sat and read for quite a while…

this robin came to visit a few times while I was reading… didn’t mind my being in the garden at all, lol…

the most exciting thing was that I saw the fish for the first time since they moved outside… the water is so high in the pond that I can’t look under the bridge and that is where they usually hang out… been worried that something had got them because I haven’t seen a single one of them for weeks… all of a sudden, there they were at the base of the waterfall searching for something to eat… and then they were gone again…

it was lovely… and then it started to spit so I ran around putting everything back into the garage… by the time I’d done all that, the rain had stopped but I went in and had a nap, lol… seemed like the thing to do…

got up and went plant shopping with my daughter… we went to a few places and found a couple of plants…

hung the baskets, had supper on the deck and finished my book…

planning on doing some planting in the morning… not supposed to be too warm or sunny but will set up in the garage and work on pots and planters…

started my day with tea in my newest mug… it’s the one my grandson brought me from Chicago…

feels nice in my hand and keeps the tea warm…

out for lunch with my daughter…

had spicy mussels with flash fried Brussels sprouts… yummy…

went window shopping for plants for the garden… did pick up a couple of butterfly bushes… they are white and will smell like vanilla… not exactly the type I was wanting but these are supposed to be perennials… we will see… also got two water hyacinth… will keep them in the house till it is just a bit warmer…

have decided that I am going to focus on white, purple and blue for the colours in the garden…

thanks to both of my girls I found some purple pots… been looking for a while and haven’t seen any… on the phone this morning with my Ottawa daughter she mentioned that she’d seen some at Loblaws… my Winnipeg daughter took me to Superstore this afternoon while we were out and about and I found a bunch…

very happy because my pots have been cracking and breaking for the last year or so…

now to fill them up… as soon as the weather makes up its mind that it really is Spring, lol…
