this afternoon the doorbell rang and it was my neighbour…
he and his helper had come to see if they could fix the two pieces of siding which have been flapping on the side of the house for ages…
he had already moved the plunge tub and wheelbarrow to get to the ladder which hangs on the outside of the garage and then he got right to work…
it took awhile to get both pieces back in place and he had a tool in his hand that I couldn’t quite make out, but after moving the ladder a number of times in both places, he got it done…
I am so happy because now I won’t have to listen to the flapping anymore when it is windy…
I have the nicest neighbours… they are basically all new(ish)… when we first moved here we became good friends with a number of neighbours, but they are all gone…
since then there have been a few inhabitants of various houses who we didn’t chat with very much…
today, the neighbour across the street came over and fixed a piece of siding at the peak of the house that had come loose during the big wind storm a while back… we had a lovely chat as he tried to get it hooked back in… he had volunteered to fix it for me, via his wife, who I had chatted with the other day when the fire trucks raced down the street… he helped me last winter when Indi got stuck at the bottom of the driveway and I couldn’t get her up the slope…
the tomatoes I’ve been eating came from the next door neighbours on my right… they have been in the house for a few years now and remind me of our friends who used to live there… he spends a lot of time tinkering in the yard and garage, lol… they spend time at the lake and moved here to help with their grandchildren and have them over on a regular basis… they got a dog a few months ago… not sure what type he is, but he is small and learning not to bark when he sees me in my garden…
the neighbours behind have been there for ten or so years so knew my beloved and they would chat over the fence all the time and share tools… the other day he offered to help with the garage cleanup…
the neighbours on the left are the newest addition… they are a young couple who also have a new puppy, which is going to be fairly large… they have both offered to pick up anything I might need when they are out and about…
I think back to the gatherings we used to have on the deck… weekend breakfasts, dinners and visits… those days are long gone…
and of course, nowadays the only visiting we do is at a distance…
still, it is lovely to know that if I need urgent help I could call on any of them…
my grandson and one of his friends came over yesterday afternoon…
they were here to finish trimming the Virginia creeper and put the piece of siding back up…
it was quite the process as a door was put onto the hot tub, then a ladder on top of the door and then one would climb up and remove bits and pieces of the vine… then they worked from the driveway side to finish… once the vines were removed, they had to do some fancy work to get the siding back up and properly attached…
eventually it was all done and the area cleaned up…
we had a laugh as this particular friend had also helped with landscaping work in the front yard a number of years ago;-)… nice to have him back and helping…
it looks much tidier and more spacious now… after they left I finished cleaning the hot tub and filled it with fresh water… it takes an hour to get it to the top…
it took until around noon to heat it up, although I’ve set the temperature at 99℃ to see if that might be a nice temp for cooling down in this very hot spell we are dealing with…
last night my grandson drove me over to the grocery store where we picked up some planters and baskets filled with Christmas greenery and berries…
hard to tell from the photo I took this morning, but the planters have a wooden reindeer head in them… they are quite cute…
the baskets got plopped into two of the planters in front of the living room window…
may have to go back and pick up another couple of the baskets…
waiting for a fancy swag to arrive to hang on the front door from a fundraiser the oldest grandson is participating in…
outside decorating done;-)… although I do have an expert coming and she may have other ideas, lol…
I am laying in my bed listening to the wind whipping a loose piece of siding against the side of the house… it is very loud and seems to be never ending… wondering if I am going to get any sleep tonight…
this morning I took this picture of the back door window from inside the house…
a bit of snow was sticking to it… not too bad considering the wind and flapping siding, which kept me awake for a good portion of the night…
the picture shows it mid-flap this morning as I was heading out to the car… at least it is still on the house… was wondering if I might have to run out in the night to find it if it fell off…
was at a great event after work to celebrate Global Women’s Entrepreneurship Day… it was at the Peasant Cookery and the location, food and service were incredible… delicious tiny bites to eat, with nice vegan and vegetarian options…
cannot thank Carly and Michelle enough for their excellent attention to detail to ensure the event went smoothly…
there was a lot of snow when I arrived home… good thing I didn’t have the car because I don’t think it would have made it up the driveway…
here’s the same window tonight… even more stuck to it…
