my daughter came to town and was here for about 12 hours between Saturday and Sunday…

she was passing through, helping a friend drive from B.C. to Ontario… the friend, her dad, and their dog spent the night with us…

we had supper when they arrived, enjoyed some garden time that evening and the next morning and then they headed off after breakfast;-)…

both meals were requested and it was fun to make her favourite macaroni and cheese and satisfy her friend’s desire for pancakes…

such a treat to see her and meet this friend who I’ve heard much about, but never had the opportunity to meet…

it was a whirlwind…

I always put sweetener and evaporated milk in my tea… usually the can goes into the fridge, but yesterday I poured my evaporated milk into a container as the can had a dent from being dropped as it was brought up to the house, lol…

the container came from Atlanta when we were there in 2016 to see the Chihuly Exhibit… we went to a Farmers Market and I picked up a chocolate drink in it… it was tasty…

lovely to remember the fun we had;-)…

it also reminded me of our camping trips over the last few years… well, not last year…

keeping my milk in the jar saved spills in the cooler, not that that ever happened;-)…

fun to remember the history of items in the house…

at the airport in Kahului by eight pm…

returned the car, after driving around the airport a few times, lol..

waited with many others for the check-in to open… then discovered that both of our checked bags were overweight so had to reorganize right there at the front of the line…

got on our plane just before midnight and my daughter got this shot of the sunrise…

and then as the day progressed we got a few different pictures out the airplane windows…

landed in Vancouver, went through customs and were driven by shuttle to the connecting gate… just got there in time for our flight to Winnipeg…

arrived just before 2, glad to be home… my daughter hopped back on a plane around six pm and after a stopover in Toronto will be home after midnight…

been one long day… gonna get some rest… good to be home…

woke up to a text from my daughter in Ottawa sending me some photos and video of a great blue heron…

I love them and she spotted this one while having her breakfast at Dows Lake before walking to her office…

a few minutes later I came across this memory on Facebook… two years ago we decided at the last minute to see if we could get a balloon flight… and we made it…

I had booked a trip a few years before just to be able to have an opportunity to fly in a hot air balloon… that time, it took five tries to actually get up into the air, so this was a treat…

lovely way to start the day…

today I spent time preparing for our trip…

went through my closet and tried on the various bits and pieces of summer clothing…

chose black, white and gray as my colour scheme… with a few pops of purple;-)…

went to the mall and bought new sandals, runners and flip flops… 

came home and did loads of laundry so that everything was ready for packing… 

started with a small suitcase and then changed to a large one, lol… 

I know I have too much stuff, but I want a few options… last time I travelled I felt I didn’t have enough things to wear…

now the trick will be to have it weigh less than 50 pounds…

still have a few days to add things… which could be the problem, lol… 

George was particularly good at adding things at the end so we would always need another bag at the last minute… but he also had an amazing ability to fit everything into a tiny space… was fun to watch…

started the day off reading the lovely Secret Adventures of Tiny Toba… it is about finding and sharing gratitude as the authors took a motorcycle trip to the East Coast… I think my boys are going to love it…

  
then I spent some time gathering items and packing for our trip to New York, leaving a week today…

 

treated myself to a pedicure with paraffin and hot rock massage… want those feet to be pretty and ready for all the walking we have planned…

  
hard to tell, but those are purple nails, not pink…

easy to call, book the appointment and go… didn’t even consider calling around to see if I could find someone to go with me…

big girl pants are fitting pretty good today, lol…

been a quiet few days… spent one day in the house, tidying and putting presents away…

next day I took the decorations off the Norfolk Pine, as another one fell and broke overnight… I also went out to have my eye looked at, got a flu shot, stopped for prescriptions at the drug store, and had my hair cut… I am enjoying the time away from work and look forward to the next few days of quiet as well…

I picked up a few items we might need in Mexico, and began collecting things in one spot to go into the suitcase…

I am looking forward to spending time with all my kids in a warm and relaxing environment…  George would have been so happy that we were taking a family trip…  I am sure his spirit will be with us…

today have had a pounding headache since this afternoon… wondering if it is from the flu shot…

went shopping with the kids… wandered through Ikea, and then picked up a shovel at Rona – took them some chocolates and nuts… George would have liked that…

since then I have been laying on the bed, trying to get over the headache… been a long time since I have had one… makes me think back to the years when I suffered from migraine on a regular basis, luckily not the real serious ones, but debilitating, nonetheless…

George would look after me, doing the little things he could to help… filling the bathtub with hot water, bringing cold cloths for my head… dealing with the girls…

tonight I think I will go out for a hot tub and remember my beloved…
