hard to believe yesterday marked five years since my last day of work before retirement…
I remember what a special day it was… I did all the things I wanted to do, the way I wanted;-)…
it was always fun to gather the group for a photo, kind of like herding cats, lol…
since then I’ve travelled a bit, enjoyed being a hermit through Covid and beyond, spent hours in the garden, read a ton of books, and enjoyed every minute… I truly am blessed;-)…
last night my daughter arrived from Ottawa… it was wonderful to see her in person…
the flight was early and my grandson picked her up at the airport and brought her home…
there were a number of thoughtful gifts which I will enjoy, including a delicious chocolate bar which reminds me of the amazing fudge that my dad used to make, a ceramic dragonfly, and the cutest little butterfly bowl which I will use to hold my pills…
I am looking forward to our time together over the next few weeks…
an evening in the garden ended with dueling computers… it was nice not to have to call her to discuss the piece of work we were doing, lol…
and then, an early night…
looking forward to many fun activities while she is here;-)…
while going through stuff in the computer room, I came across a few items from my work life…
was so excited to find two Pentel RSVPpens… it wasn’t till I tested to see if the ink still flowed that I remembered how much I loved them… I made it a habit to be sure there were a couple of the purple/violet ones in my desk at all times, lol…
now I have one in the computer room and one in the kitchen, so I can access them at any time…
I’ve been having trouble with the computer upstairs… for the last few weeks it kept advising that it wasn’t connected to the internet… tried many things, but nothing seemed to work… the wifi had been coming and going as well…
a few days ago I went to call MTS about my services and thought I should just take a quick look to be sure it was still disconnected…
and, of course, it connected right away, lol…
when I spoke with a technician, they advised they did something while we were on the call and it shouldn’t be a problem anymore…
brought back a number of memories as his birth changed the trajectory of my life…
because I refused to miss his birth, I ended up leaving a job I had been at for ten years, as the boss wasn’t pleased that I had taken away time from my position… a lot of trauma occurred over the next while and eventually I was walked out of the office…
one good thing that came out of that was the hot tub, as I was awarded a year’s salary due to my wrongful dismissal and purchased it with some of those funds…
there was huge stress and tension and the hot tub has helped with that for many years now;-)…
after a number of months I found the perfect position where I flourished for nearly ten years before my retirement…
lots of things to sift through…
this photo was taken in 2020, when I was still keeping my distance from everyone, but it does show him and the hot tub together, lol…
was able to complete a few jobs in the garden although not the irrigation system… I am going to need a second pair of hands for that one…
using landscape fabric, I was able to turn a very cute, but not useful, bird feeder into a little planter… think it came out rather nicely… found a couple of morning glory plants, a sweet potato vine and a spider plant to go in it…
then there was quite a production to get a hook up on the garage and put up the planter… the drill, ladder and I had to sort through some stuff, but eventually it was up…
after all that I don’t like it there, but haven’t quite decided where to move it, lol…
reconnected two parts of a little planter that has an obelisk on the top… used zip ties to connect… it looks good and isn’t going to fall apart…
I also did a bit of pruning of the cedars along the back fence…
walked around and reviewed the work that needs to happen on the weekend…
soil will be delivered… all of the stepping stones are going to be lifted and soil and grass seed put in their place…
in the side garden, the wooden path will be removed and the stepping stones that were taken up in the main area will be used to replace the wooden path…
this will be a bit sad as my beloved laid all of these paths but it is time to change it up… right now many of the spots are tripping hazards as they have sunk a lot…
any leftover soil will go into the various beds and pots around the space… hoping that the two yards of soil is just the correct amount…
