I was dropped off by a friend for a doctor’s appointment and got my 2nd Covid booster…
my grandson picked me up and we ended up with subs for lunch…
we traded vehicles again, so he took back his motorcycle and left me with the car…
spent time in the garden while the house was getting cleaned…
put away the cushions and went in for a nap… slept through a thunderstorm and woke up to a soaking wet garden…
it occurred to me how tired I was when I spent five minutes after napping reaching around for my glasses before realizing I had my contacts in…
realized that I’d left my camera and book on the table on the back deck… and they were both soaked…
once I brought the camera and book in, I set them on towels to dry… the book did fairly well, but when I turned the camera on it was like looking through fog…
I used a baggie and the last of my rice to cover the camera and left it to sit for a few days…
this morning I removed it from the bag and was thrilled to see that there was no more fog… yay…
moved a few planters and a chair on the lower deck…
haven’t decided if I like it or not…
and then this morning I rearranged again… I put the dahlia by the door and moved the begonias and columbine to the back of the garden where they will get the necessary shade… I may end up moving that planter beside the rain barrel, but will need help to get it up there…
on Monday morning, Hilda the Gardener came by to weed the garden…
I had dug a pot out of the shed and had purchased and put together an obelisk… nothing seems to come all made anymore, lol…
my plan was to have her take the mandevilla off the old obelisk and replant it with the new obelisk… this should make it much easier to to bring into the house and move around as needed…
the pot I had found wasn’t the right size so she had to move some coleus from a pot that would be a better fit…
then she unravelled the old one and planted it in the new pot with the obelisk…
my job was to wrap the vines around the obelisk…
once that was done she finished weeding the side garden…
it always looks wonderful after she has worked her magic;-)…
and just minutes after she left the rain started, lol…
last Thursday night I think a raccoon (or more than one) came into the garden and attacked the pond…
they got at least two fish and tossed around the water lilies… they don’t care for fish scales, so end up leaving them on the ground… I found two piles on the stepping stones alongside the pond…
the fish were clearly traumatized and have barely come out from under the bridge…
after doing some research, I put down epsom salt all around the pond and hoped that would dissuade them from finding their supper in my garden…
I also put on the motion sensor at the back door and the one on the garage…
since then, they have come back a few times, although I am starting to wonder if it might be the coyote that has been wandering in this area… the plants have been disturbed, but I haven’t found any fish bits…
this Thursday I put up a new wireless camera to see if I can spot whatever has been coming by…
Monday, a friend dropped off some alyssum and lobelia and Wednesday I got around to planting them…
opened the shed to discover a small paper wasp nest attached to the door… I used the recycling bin to hold the door open and went in carefully to find some pots…
happily there were no injuries and I pulled out a couple of pots and a hanging basket…
got each one filled and popped them over by the garden bed…
this was good as the beds look a little thin now that all the poppies have been removed, lol…
