early Saturday morning I went out to cover the garden furniture with a tarpaulin before the rain started…
it took a while, but eventually I got it all covered and also moved all the rocks that had come out of the pond…
now the garden is ready for winter…

Saturday’s project was to transplant the lemon tree and the fern…
had to run out to the garage to get gloves and into the basement for a pail and spoon, lol…
after a bit of digging and mess-making the two plants were in their new pots, trimmed, fertilized, and watered…
the fern was absolutely jammed into the pot and took quite a bit of work to get it thinned out, cut back and set into its new home…
it was much simpler to put the lemon tree into the larger pot and add some soil… it looks good;-)… I cannot remember when I started this, maybe this spring or last spring, lol…
hopefully they will both thrive…

Friday afternoon I took out the solar small Christmas tree lights and put them into one of the flower pots…
wanted to be sure the pics would be able to go into the nearly frozen soil…
I also filled the snowflake with solar mini lights…
they came out very nicely…

the other day I had to clean one of the fish tank pumps…
it was a bit dicey to get the pieces that needed to be cleaned out, but I managed it… hope it will be simpler next time, lol…
the fish appear happy and the tank has already started to clear up…

when I was cleaning and reorganizing the computer room, I came across a few items that I usually put out around Christmas, but with all the recent turmoil going on, felt like now was the time to bring them out…
one is a white dove that I hung onto the Japanese Maple in the front window…
and the other is a stunning card that a friend got me for Christmas many years ago, which I placed in the dining room where I can see it…
I’ve been spending quite a bit of time thinking of those around me who are dealing with health issues and heavy life events and I am feeling more calm as I gaze upon these…

well, last night, when I went out for a hot tub, I put on my water shoes and toque…
the toque always reminds me of my beloved;-)…
when I’d gone out the night before and climbed up the steps in my bare feet, they were cold;-(…
and so it begins…
I was feeling bad about needing them already, but when I looked at previous times I’d started wearing them it had been towards the end of October, so I guess I shouldn’t be complaining…

in the process of moving the hibiscus and mandevilla, an almost-open bloom fell off…
the next morning I discovered that it was starting to open, even though it was laying in the dirt…
I grabbed it and put it in water and then spent the day watching as it opened and then began to close…
what a lovely treat…
I also found at least five buds on the plant… can hardly wait to see more flowers…

brought the dahlia tubers up from the basement to finish putting them to bed for the winter…
I cleaned off the last of the dirt that was clinging to them, separated them by type, cut off miscellaneous bits, and divided them up…
once they were in paper bags, they went into a box to be stored in the basement and the leftover bits and dirt made their way to the garbage bin…
happy to get that job done and hopeful they will all start to grow come spring;-)…

moved a few plants around in the living and dining rooms…
the mandevilla made its way to the dining room…
and the hibiscus moved to the living room and it might still switch with the monstera…
it will be interesting to see if they will be happy in these new spots as the hibiscus has always lived in the dining room…

yesterday I went into the garden and pulled out the metal poppy… luckily the ground wasn’t too frozen…
brought it into the house, gave it a good scrubbing and then took it out to the front step…
I found two small bungee cords to attach it to the rail… it looks pretty good…
and today I pulled out my poppy with the cool centrepiece and put it on my coat…
we must not forget…
