Friday is garbage and recycling day and I usually only take mine out every three or four weeks…

Thursdays are the day to take them out and put them into the lane… I am blessed because my neighbour snowblows behind his garage so there is a spot to put them…

I find that I only need to take one or the other out, which is good because there isn’t always room for both, lol… this time it was the garbage, and I should have shovelled the snow on the path, but didn’t;-)…

now to remember to bring it in later on Friday…

had a good time at aquasize and then we took a drive to DeLuca’s…

I got spinach wraps, gnocchi, canned tomatoes and two different types of bread…

apparently I am still craving bread, lol… now I just need to learn how to cook the gnocchi…

once home I made two little peanut butter and banana sandwiches for my lunch…

they were very tasty…

ordered a light strip to replace the pot lights that have stopped working under the kitchen counter…

took a while to arrive and then I needed to read the directions a few times before installing it…

had to move the microwave and it took some effort but eventually I got the old lights removed…

then it took another while to figure out how to connect the app I downloaded and get the light to work…

and at that point I discovered that the new light strip didn’t provide enough light, sigh…

now to decide on next steps…

lovely sunrise through the trees this morning…

and then I spotted what I think is going to be the last bloom on the hibiscus for now…

a bit sad as I’m not sure when it might start blooming again, but I will keep checking daily…

I’ve been sure to stop and check it out throughout the day;-)…

great excitement as I have discovered three orchids that are setting buds;-)…

this makes me very happy as January and February can be difficult months – usually cold and dull…

the one orchid which is blooming is sitting on the middle of the living room table and doing very well…

the trees have been stunningly beautiful over the last while…

quite a bit of that time the sky was gray so even though it was lovely, it didn’t make for any great photos…

the last few days the sun has been shining brightly…

this frost appears to be rime frost…

spent some time trimming the hibiscus now that most of the buds have opened…

here it was before the haircut, kind of scraggly…

and after, being careful not to cut off any of the remaining buds;-)…

I think it looks much tidier and it is much easier to walk past it, lol… and then it had another bloom;-)…

here it is five years ago… so tiny…

and since then it has lost one whole stem…

spent Tuesday putting away the little trees…

now the stairs look a bit naked…

the front trees are put away but that space looks filled with the plants that returned from the den…

I’ve been trying to add a new tree to the collection most years, but didn’t manage it this year… maybe next year;-)…

for years we celebrated New Year’s Eve with steak and lobster… this started with friends before we had kids;-)…

at some point it moved to New Year’s Day as the kids wanted to participate but were off celebrating on the night before…

this year I enjoyed the preparation as I worked on getting escargot stuffed mushrooms, baked potatoes, fried mushrooms and sautéed Brussels sprouts ready…

the kids arrived, got the barbecue going and then grilled the steaks and lobster tails…

dinner was delicious and we had a great time…

on Monday, as I emptied the dishwasher and put away all of the pieces we used, I revisited the fun and special moments…

and the tradition continues…
