I last had my hair trimmed in November, when Hilda the gardener, who is also a professional hairstylist, came to give me a cut at home…

for the last few days I’ve been struggling with it… that all of a sudden too long phase

this morning I did some of my own trimming…

certainly no purple these days, and I do miss it…

came out nicely, lol… and feels so much better…

took some time to arrange the amaryllis plants…

right now three are blooming, so I put them together on the living room table…

first I took apart the last of my New Year’s bouquet and used the vase to set one of the pots inside…

there is still one plant waiting to bloom on the dining room table… when it opens, I think I will add it to the collection in the living room…

having fresh blooms in the house makes me happy, particularly during these cold and snowy days…

the Olympics are on, the Olympics are on;-)…

I am so excited… I like to watch live if possible, so it means I am up at all times of the day and/or night, depending where they are happening… my days and nights are currently upside down…

retirement makes this much easier… when I worked, my colleagues knew I might be kind of groggy some of the time…

I like both summer and winter versions… although for these ones I am not that fond of hockey and curling (hard to believe I am a Canadian, eh)…

I really enjoy the skating, skiing and snowboarding…

and I always want everyone to do their best… such fun to watch…

not much is going to be happening around here for the next few weeks, lol…

February is going to flash by…

yikes, more snow stories…

put on long underwear, an extra vest, mitts over gloves, my Canada Goose jacket, and went out in the extreme cold to shovel a path to the garbage and recycle bins…

I had hoped to put them in the lane for pick up but there was just too much snow… hopefully, next week it will be a bit warmer so I can finish digging the path out all the way to the gate…

thankfully there is a bit of space in both bins so they should be fine for one more week…

there was a huge drift up against the back door and it took a while to get through it…

as I moved further into the yard, the path got narrower… it was cold out there…

it was just wide enough for me to carry out the bags, lol…

sure do miss my beloved, he would have shovelled and snow blowed a great path all the way to the lane, no problem… and had fun doing it, lol… he did love to play with the snowblower…

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about moments… as in, how easy it is to miss one…

this morning, the sun was shining through the patio doors and created a beautiful design on the side of the microwave… I spent time enjoying it and took a few photos… the shadows reminded me of the pictures I took during a photography class a number of years ago…

just a few minutes later I was in the kitchen and the design was gone… happy that I wandered in at just the right moment and had the chance to enjoy the sight;-)…

a bit later, I was walking on the spot and got to see a bunny running around the backyard… such a treat…

when I was in the garden, I spotted these lovely designs through the pergola and on the hot tub…

we won’t talk about the large amount of snow covering the hot tub;-(…

I am so blessed to have the opportunity to enjoy these…

made chicken soup the other day… cold outside and huge snowflakes were falling… seemed like just the thing to do…

although I could use the Instant Pot, I do it the old-fashioned way… I enjoy the aroma as it simmers away on the stove…

I like the time it takes to cool the chicken down and then separate the meat from the bones, adding in the barley, potatoes and other veggies and putting it back on to simmer…

once it was finished I packaged it up and with the last bit in the pot added dumplings for my supper…

good use of the day and delicious…

we’ve had some rough weather over the last few days… they called it a blizzard, although not too much snow fell, but it certainly blew around…

as I was making my breakfast I looked outside and saw this squirrel, covered in snow, stuffing its face at the feeder…

it looked very cold…

a bit later, I took some pictures in the den…

the window was covered in sticky snow…

the blowing continued for most of the day, and finally stopped in the evening…

I see more snow shovelling in my future, lol…

congratulations…

today WordPress congratulated me on 50,000 views…

that was kind of exciting…

so I dove in and found a few numbers…

as of the end of the year, I had written 3333 posts… there were 3,287 days in that period… basically one post every day… how cool is that…

and I have used 482,698 words…

that works out to around 145 words per post…

interesting information;-)…

last night I had my first hot tub in many weeks…

we have had so much extreme cold and snow that I haven’t wanted to go out…

when I did want to, the cover was frozen closed… this has only ever happened a few times over the twelve years we’ve had it… this year it has already been three or four times…

when it has warmed up a bit… last night a balmy -23… the ice vanishes and the cover opens nicely…

it was quiet and peaceful… sigh, I have missed that;-)…

so, I went out again this morning… even got some pictures…

happy Sunday…

these days I get my steps walking the figure eight in the living and dining rooms…

I was wondering how many trips have been made around these two rooms…

they started when my beloved returned home from his heart surgery, and were short and slow as he regained his strength…

then there were the walks I took as I slowly regained my strength following my cancer surgery just months after he had gone… again, the steps were slow and difficult… took a long time before I could climb the stairs or go out onto the deck…

I walked on the treadmill in the basement before work since being diagnosed with diabetes… I overdid it for a while and my hips and knees can get a bit grumpy if I walk too fast, or too long, so I spend less time on it now…

during the cold weather over the last few years this has been my track… I find walking in the light is a positive encouragement to get the steps in…

how many miles has it been… maybe it is good that it is hardwood and not a carpet that might have ended up with a path in it, lol…
