I miss my beloved all the time but seems more so around this time of year…

he was a romantic and always made it a special holiday for me… usually that included roses

of course there haven’t been too many for me recently, lol…

I ordered books as a treat and didn’t expect them until the 15th, but they arrived early…

woohoo, looking forward to reading in the sunny living room over the next while…

there was a whirlwind of activity in the kitchen a few days ago…

not sure what it was about, but went with the flow, lol…

after breakfast, I used the leftover half banana to make some overnight oats

a bit later I produced a small batch of homemade macaroni and cheese which I will have over the next few days…

then I prepared sweet potato oven fries to go with my pickerel for supper…

wonder if I will have this much energy over the next while, or whether it was a one time event…

I always put sweetener and evaporated milk in my tea… usually the can goes into the fridge, but yesterday I poured my evaporated milk into a container as the can had a dent from being dropped as it was brought up to the house, lol…

the container came from Atlanta when we were there in 2016 to see the Chihuly Exhibit… we went to a Farmers Market and I picked up a chocolate drink in it… it was tasty…

lovely to remember the fun we had;-)…

it also reminded me of our camping trips over the last few years… well, not last year…

keeping my milk in the jar saved spills in the cooler, not that that ever happened;-)…

fun to remember the history of items in the house…

tonight I popped outside to fill the feeders on the deck… I didn’t think I needed my gloves, but didn’t take into account the outside door handle

I did have on my toasty warm boots which I have now put under the fish tank to keep warm…

so much better than in the front landing…

went out to fill the feeders this afternoon… it is so cold out that I didn’t want the birds to run out of food…

started with the front feeders… only took a few minutes to fill one and put out fresh suet in the other…

then I went through the house and out the back… filled the first feeder and took the second into the garage to fill it… by then my fingertips felt very cold… I had hoped to add more to the first feeder, but my fingers were numb… clearly I had the wrong gloves on…

I quickly added seeds to the feeders on the deck and came in…

took a long time for my fingertips to warm up…

on January 31st I picked up a project that had been sitting in my closet for at least two years…

it was a partially crocheted blanket that I had started and then walked away from… it was going to be for the bed, but I think it is a little small for that…

I decided to work on it for the 100 Day Project, so I’ve been doing a row or two each evening…

last night I finished it;-)… it is going to be great to cuddle up under in the den…

particularly in this cold weather…

cut the blooms off the hyacinth plants yesterday morning… when I walked into the living room they were all hanging over the edges of their pots…

put the purple ones in the bathroom…

the yellow ones went on the ledge between the kitchen and dining room…

moved the pots into the dining room garden… a bit of additional green looks good… that garden is getting bigger;-)…

now the scent is everywhere on the main floor…

a few days ago I put lotion on my hands because they were dry

anyone who knows me realizes that this is very odd…

my hands don’t absorb things like lotion, so I never use it… even after putting sunscreen or other cream on my body I have to wash it off my hands…

this time it soaked in…

clearly, the humidity is poor around here…

spent a lovely time today going through books searching for the best perennials to add to one section of the garden…

I’ve been thinking that a spot where I’ve been putting annuals yearly would be a good place for some perennials, but now I need to figure out which one, lol…

they need to be short and fill in the space around the hostas and ferns that are already there… and, I would like them to flower as long as possible… that is going to be the trick…

quite a few options to contemplate;-)…

today I spent a lot of time observing the birds at the feeders in the garden…

started first thing when I caught a nuthatch, squirrel and bunny snacking… I didn’t even notice the nuthatch when I took the photo, lol…

then the nuthatches, chickadees and house finches came and went for hours…

got a few good shots while at it, but it was difficult with the snow on the window…

a very enjoyable way to spend the day…
