heron…

noticed a number of birds over the last few days…

common or purple finches at the bird feeder, and ducks and geese at the Park…

the mallard was at the door to the Leo Mol Gallery… not sure if it was waiting to go in, or what…

but, the most exciting creature I’ve seen was the great blue heron by the bridge to the Park…

I was so excited to see this beauty… I must have stood watching it for ten minutes before it flew away…

herons are everywhere in Ontario and BC, and I’ve seen a few at Manitoba lakes, but not in the city…

a wonderful treat

saw a picture of this particular Hawaiian flower recently, and it reminded me of ones we saw when we were on Maui

it’s known as spiral ginger, red tower ginger or red velvet ginger… the Hawaiian name for ginger plants is awapuhi

it is one of the flowers that looks like it is made of plastic, lol… this is from a bouquet we had in the Gingerbread house Airbnb we stayed in…

this one, possibly shampoo ginger, had us touching it a few times because we were convinced it was artificial… but then the little piece opened up… with a bit of purple in it…

it’s always so interesting to see the different vegetation when travelling…

busy day as I researched and decided on which version of iPhone X I would upgrade to…

walked up and down Polo Park a few times as I checked out the various options…

one of the things I was most interested in was the quality of the camera, as I take many photos…

also, size of the phone was important… I didn’t want something too large for my hand and that would feel uncomfortable…

and then there was the issue of the case… I have the most wonderful case now, but it isn’t available for an iPhone X…

I want something that doesn’t cover the front of the phone as I do take so many photos…

in the end I chose the iPhone X and purchased it from The Source… picked up a Huawei tablet and a Kate Spade cover…

I also found a case that holds a few credit cards… not sure yet which case I will use most, lol…

then I came home and figured out how to move my data from the old to the new…

even got the tablet working with all the apps I use… it will be fun to learn the android system…

looking forward to playing with these new toys;-)…

today we got the waterfall going in the pond…

to do it, we had to go and get a new pump, as apparently the old one died about the time in came out of the pond in the Fall…

the water is still murky and it is full of leaves…

going to have to do some research to find something that might dissolve some of the sludge

but I am so happy to hear the sound of the running water…

so happy to discover my necklace last night…

it is the first of only one hundred pieces which my daughter made recently…

I took it to Maui and when we moved from our first hotel to the Airbnb I thought I put it away, but couldn’t find it… even called the hotel in case it had been turned in to Lost and Found… sadly it had not…

when I got home I searched every nook and cranny during the unpacking… nothing…

felt bad because I was so sure I had packed it, but it just wasn’t there, sigh…

recently mentioned to my daughter that I would need to order another necklace to replace the lost one…

and then… last night I was charging my camera and slid my finger into the little pocket of the Coach bag that holds the charger…

and found it;-)…

specialties…

today we had chicken soup for lunch…

I made it last night and it took most of the evening… my chicken soup has potatoes, carrots, corn and peas… it also has barley in it… George loved barley in soup and so I always use it… I find that noodles can get mushy but the barley stands up to any reheating…

for supper I made a fried egg sandwich… one of my beloved’s specialties

I imagined how it would taste, but it didn’t turn out quite as planned… was okay, lol…

nice memories

shampooing…

for the last few months my arm has been sore… between my elbow and shoulder… it was particularly bothersome when shampooing my hair…

I decided to see my physiotherapist once I got home from Maui, because it seemed to be getting worse, or not getting better…

while we were away, I mentioned this to my daughter…

she shared that one of her colleagues had the same problem and had just discovered that it was from using her phone

oh dear

while we were gone I didn’t use my phone nearly as much as normal, and it did appear to be improving…

since I’ve been home I’ve cut back on my phone usage… not near as many games of solitaire, lol…

still doing better, but I think the tv remote isn’t helping, lol…

spent some time in the garden reading this afternoon…

I’ve also been watching the birds…

yesterday I spotted a couple of finches and have been hoping to get a photo of them so I can identify them… I even took my camera upstairs and left it on the landing hoping I might spot them again when going up or down the stairs…

no luck so far, but there are at least four different types of sparrows out there;-)…

and the creeping Charlie is starting to bloom…

spent time doing laundry today…

made me think of my mom… she loved doing laundry… she liked being able to get stains out, the tidy piles of clean and fresh smelling clothing, and the pleasure of knowing that items were ready for everyone to wear…

she worked with a wringer washer for many years…

I had to search to find a photo of what the one we had looked like… something like this one which I found on the internet…

during her last years she had to use a laundry room just across from their apartment…

I wonder how she would have liked the new washers and driers…

I don’t dislike doing laundry, but certainly don’t love it, lol…
