Sunday we celebrated my beloved’s birthday…

the kids in Ottawa ordered A&W and I ordered it here… this was as close as we could manage to get burgers which were one of his favourites, lol…

ordering and having the meal delivered makes it easy to meet and eat at a specific time without going crazy in the kitchen trying to get separate meals ready…

we met online and enjoyed our burgers and chatted about him…

whenever we meet up we like to “cheers”… in person or over screens…

after we finished our call, I had one of their apple turnovers… he loved apple pie;-)…

it was a low key and enjoyable way to remember him…

Thursday marked 10 years since I started blogging…

and when I looked at my stats, they tell me I have reached 500 followers… wow…

it also means that ten years have passed since my beloved left me…

just yesterday a delivery arrived and the box smelled of cigarette smoke… haven’t smelled that for years and it reminded me of him, as he was a smoker…

I miss him all the time, but I also know he would be proud of how I have grown over these years…

today marks 10 years since I started blogging…

it also means that ten years have passed since my beloved left me… ten years…

just yesterday a delivery arrived and the box smelled of cigarette smoke… haven’t smelled that for years and it reminded me of him, as he was a smoker…

I miss him all the time, but I also know he would be proud of how I have grown over these years…

the trees made their way up the stairway…

found the box and had some fun placing them…

have one that needs to be plugged in, so I need to figure out how to get it connected…

the rest look great… Facebook told me I had done the same thing on this date two years ago… and I was thinking it was kind of early, lol…

a final few went onto a table by the front door… these include a few that my beloved made many years ago…

I like how they look, and they are connected to Google;-)…

recently went to the theatre… a friend and I have been going together for a number of years…

during the pandemic we watched online, but that certainly wasn’t the same…

we had gone to a live presentation in the spring and were happy to be back…

they are still spacing people out, skipping intermission, and encouraging people to wear masks… both of these helped make the afternoon enjoyable… we also had another friend join us…

as is often the case, the set itself was interesting… from before the play started, when the set was quietly tidied… to the end, when it was absolutely trashed, lol…

so nice to do some more normal activities…

on our way home we followed a car with my beloved’s initials…

a while ago, as I was sitting on the deck reading, I smelled hot oil…

my neighbour was making French fries for his family… he makes them in the garage so the house doesn’t get all smelly…

it reminded me of my beloved… one of his specialties was homemade French fries…

I really wanted some, and finally made a batch of frozen ones… not nearly as delicious as his, lol… but helped with the craving…

interesting how quickly a scent can take you somewhere…

sooooo happy…

today, three jobs that have been on the list for ages, got done, thanks to Nathan the Handyperson, and my grandson;-)…

first, the front door sweep got reset and the edging tightened to close up any open spots… happy this took place before the really cold weather… it was first worked on about a year ago and the piece came off early in the spring…

next, the deck got levelled…

it has been sinking more and more over the summer and when they got the underside open, there was the tiniest piece of rotten wood holding it up😳…

we’ve lived here for just over forty-nine years and the deck was probably built at least thirty-five years ago… the top has been replaced once and is still in excellent condition… there was one piece of the frame that had to be replaced, but the rest was in great shape…

the steps to the side garden were removed for the work and then reattached and feel much sturdier now…

and the rail was redesigned, is much more stable, and matches the rail on the other side…

I am so thrilled it has been fixed…

finally, the rotten section on the bathtub pond ledge has been repaired…

back to normal… safe and level;-)…

what a great day;-)…

my hair went from being fine… to unmanageable, in what felt like a minute, about last Wednesday… I nearly tried out the freshly sharpened scissors, but managed to hold off until this morning when I walked over to Ultracuts to get it dealt with… had to wait for a bit, so went for a walk, rather than sit inside…

the weather was nice, particularly as it was supposed to rain all day…

along the way I spotted some murals and got a nice shot of this one…

pleased with the cut…

on the way home I passed a person and said good morning… it wasn’t until I was a few steps past them that I realized it was one of my neighbours…

I laughed as I thought of how my beloved would have responded… he would have turned back, called out their name, and had a half hour conversation…

I just kept walking, lol…

got fresh sourdough bread recently, so decided on toast with peanut butter for breakfast… this is a treat as bread isn’t on the menu very often…

brought down my left-handed cutting board and it reminded me of fun times at Hillside Beach many, many, years ago…

I love how it cuts the bread to the exact size required for the toaster… and then the knife slides into the tray…

we picked this up at one of the Victoria Beach Country Markets and it has cut many loaves of Village Green Bakery bread, lol…

last year I removed the drawers and took a file cabinet outside to become a raised garden planter… it has worked very well…

the drawers, which were filled with my beloved’s stuff, have been stacked on a table in the basement since then…

finally I set up a box for giveaway, one for things to keep, a recycling bin, and a garbage bag…

worked away for a few hours and was able to move items into the various options without a problem…

the drawers went to the back lane, and someone collected them for scrap;-)…

makes me happy to have been able to declutter…
