when I was feeding the fish… around 10:30 am, their usual time, lol… I discovered that one of the pumps was running, but the water wasn’t…
I turned it off, removed it, and put the pieces into the sink… after cleaning everything, it still didn’t work…
I placed the filter on the front of the tank so I could fiddle with the little impeller and was thrilled when it started working…
we can’t get to the fish store until next week to replace this pump… the fish will be fine until then, even though the tank looks odd and it is hard to see them, lol…
last night, after supper, I felt as though I had something stuck in one of my back teeth…
after trying for a while to get it out, I realized that a piece of my back tooth was missing…
kind of freaked me out… anyone who knows me knows how I feel about going to the dentist, sigh…
it didn’t hurt, but I kept wondering if it was going to…
first thing in the morning I called and was able to get in to see my dentist…
had to take a taxi to get there and found it rather difficult to see how much was owed…
I just barely sat down when I was called into the office…
it took nearly an hour for the filling to be completed… it was a bad one and apparently it was in the worst place for someone like me who has a tremendous gag reflex, lol… glad it is over…
walked down to the Delta and caught a cab home…
I am still rather tentative about chewing on that side…
the other day my grandson came to the door and said something had happened to my plants… he heard a crash as he was showering and came out to the shower caddy that we had installed in January laying in pieces on the floor with bits of orchids everywhere…
I was so shocked I didn’t even take a picture of the carnage…
it took a while to pick up the plants, sweep up the broken bits, and dump out the soil…
then, we ignored it for a few days, lol…
when we put it back up, we decided to use strapping and screws…
I still need to replace the one broken pot…
hopefully this time the whole shelf won’t come crashing down, lol…
today was Pi day, lol, so we decided to bake a frozen pizza for supper… it wasn’t cooked after the correct amount of time, nor after more time… eventually we realized that the oven wasn’t heating…
tried using the frypan, but that did not work…
so, then we ordered…
it was tasty, particularly after we’d been trying to have supper for a long time, lol…
the furnace has been misbehaving for nearly six weeks…
it started when my Nest app advised that the furnace had been off a number of times over a few weeks starting early in November and suggested I be in touch with a technician… this had never happened before…
I contacted the usual company and they said as long as it was working they couldn’t tell what was wrong… they booked me for an annual maintenance appointment which wasn’t until December…
since the beginning of December I have listened to the furnace starting and stopping close together, a sound which was certainly new… different from previous problems when it had stopped due to snow plugging the vents…
when the technician came for the annual checkup they advised that the furnace needed to be replaced… apparently it is 37 years old… it was working fine while they were here although it was doing a bit of the on-and-off business…
I called another company for a second opinion and on Friday they agreed that it needed to be replaced before too long…
Saturday when I got up, the temperature was 14.5° Celsius and it took hours for it to even start raising the temperature in the house… I was worried it had finally stopped;-(… eventually it made it to 17° C… Sunday it stayed around that temperature…
Monday it was down to 16° C and was quite chilly, lol… I called and a new install was scheduled for Wednesday…
Tuesday, it was 14.5°C when I got up… I raised the dial on the thermometer to 32° and it took a very long time to start to warm up…
then it got too hot, but I was afraid to lower the temperature in case it stopped working again… eventually I lowered it to 22 before bed…
been having trouble keeping one of the medicine cabinet doors closed for the last few weeks…
I thought it was because the magnet on the mirror was separating from the plastic behind it…
the other morning I looked at it and thought it was no longer level…
at which point I discovered that the plastic where the door attached to the cabinet had broken… it took two of us to remove the broken cabinet…
what a treat to discover my beloved’s handwritten measurements inside the hole🤗…
after measuring the space, it was off to Home Depot to see if we could find something that would fit into the hole in the wall… and of course I needed two, sigh…
we found a cabinet that should work, but the store we were at didn’t have any in stock, so it meant another trip… after trying two other stores it was off to Rona, where we found two of the same cabinet at an even better price;-)…
it has been fourteen years since my beloved installed these cabinets when we redid the bathroom, so I guess it did pretty well, being opened more than ten thousand times, lol… that wasn’t a bad run…
and, just like that we have two new cabinets, although the space inside them is smaller, but they will work fine;-)…
I was surprised yesterday morning when I looked out the window to see the hammock stand on its back against the planter… clearly the wind had lifted the umbrella and blew it over…
when I went out I saw that the umbrella on the top was perfectly fine so I took it off… the wind has been very strong since Tuesday and may continue for a number of days… a section of the edging had broken right off…
the umbrella went into the garage and I was able to put the stand back up… not going to put the umbrella back on until the weather improves…
was on my way downstairs to go out to the hot tub on Friday and heard a loud noise… looked out the window to see one of the two hardcovers laying on the ground… not attached to either side of the tub…
it had slipped out of my grandson’s hands and, in the very cold weather, broke both arms that hold it on…
luckily, after we soaked for a while the two of us were able to set it back where it belonged… no single person hot tubs until it gets repaired, lol, as it will take two of us to open and close the cover…
happily Krevco had some arms available…
we will wait for a warm day to empty the tub, move it to install the arm closest to the house, put it back, connect the second arm, and refill the tub…
