today was filled with activity…

started the day with a few pictures of my orchid…

then I prepped potatoes, turnip, stuffing for Christmas dinner and prepared twice stuffed potatoes for tonight’s supper…

it had snowed more overnight and in the morning… there was a lot of snow out there…

the kids arrived and we ran around getting a few last minute items… there were many, many people in all the places we went… particularly the parking lots…

home, dinner cooked, eaten and a bit of relaxing before everyone headed home…

today I finished wrapping the presents and put them under the tree…

also received a parcel from Ottawa with a few pieces to add to the pile:-)…

it came with a lovely card… it has a heron on it… I love herons…

was going to walk to get my hair cut but after taking out the recycling and garbage decided that it was way too slippery…

enjoying these restful days before the busyness of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day…

tonight after supper we decorated some gingerbread cookies that we’d picked up a few weeks ago at IKEA…

everyone took part… lots of focus and luckily the icing I picked up today worked perfectly…

then we ate them and they were delicious;-)…

we are going to put together the gingerbread house and decorate it on Christmas Eve as we need royal icing to glue it……

this can be a melancholy time of year… often we think of those who are gone and won’t be with us to celebrate… I made sure to put my beloved’s stocking out where I could see it and remember the many wonderful celebrations we had…

it also seems to be a time when people are ill or feeling alone…

I was thinking of that when I took pictures of the poinsettias…

when you glance at them from one angle it appears there is only one, all alone… but when you look at them from another point of view you see there are many of them…

when I’m sad, I often get caught up in thinking I am all alone… good to think of the many who are there to support me…

the trick is to remember and be brave enough to tell them I need them… and then to accept the help, lol…

we haven’t had much snow so far… on Sunday I walked over to meet my family for breakfast…

snow was gently falling and it was beautiful…

stopped along the way and took this shot of snow on a truck which was right by the sidewalk…

then I got my camera out and took some snowflake pictures… enjoyed the chance to spend some time playing with the camera…

reminded me of all the times that my beloved and I would go places so that I could take pictures… I sure do miss him…

well, what a busy and fun day with my boys…

they came over after an early soccer game and we met for breakfast at the “A“… first time I’ve walked over there in ages…

from there we went shopping and then to the movies… saw Fantastic Beasts, which was great… then back to the mall…

on our way home we stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few final ingredients for our supper…

the oldest grandson arrived just before our meal…

great dinner, the boys tidied up and everyone spent some time on their devices before they headed home…

smart…

this morning I got a message from my son-in-law advising that TVs were on sale for Black Friday…

he had spotted a few that were a great price as he knew I was wanting a smart TV that would connect with my Google Home…

and my TV has been misbehaving for a few weeks now…

I went to the place he recommended on my way home just after noon… the streets around the mall were crazy… got into the parking lot of the store but there wasn’t a single spot to park… waited a bit but still no spots… drove out of the lot and went home…

later my son-in-law texted to say he and the younger boys would come over and we could try again, lol…

there were spots in the lot and lots of TVs in the store… took a while, but eventually we got our smart TV… on the way home we picked up Chinese food for our supper…

then there was the process to get it on the wall and hooked up…

so… now I have two remotes that both need to be used to watch programs… but, I can tell the TV to turn itself off;-)…

and, although the TV is smart it doesn’t want to play with Google Home…

maybe tomorrow it will want to play nice…

on the weekend I had a bit of fun as I redesigned the drawer in the living room table…

in the summer I usually fill it with sea shells and rocks…

in the fall I’ve used scarves or photographs…

for the holiday season there have been a few versions of Christmas ornaments… one year silver and blue and purple… another year there were red balls too…

this year I used silver, blue and purple and included some framed pictures of family and friends…

kind of enjoy thinking up new ways to fill it…

and it looks lovely… now to figure out the rest of the Christmas decorations…

this year I am hoping to do some serious decluttering of excess decorations… not that I have too many, lol…

have had a few conversations recently with individuals who are going through some big struggles…

some are missing loved ones… seems like November can be an especially difficult month… maybe it is the cold and dark… for me it has to do with family birthdays and colder weather…

some are going through family trauma… could be issues with children or partners or parents…

some are dealing with difficulties at work… too much, not enough…

lots going on for many… need to spend a bit of time sending love and healing thoughts their way…

but happy to have had the moments to connect with these special individuals…

anticipated a quiet day… no plans to go out or anyone coming over… I would watch the Remembrance Day service on Parliament Hill and read and watch tv…

woke up to blue sky out the window… haven’t had much of that recently, so it was a great treat…

I did a few little jobs around the house and settled in to watch the service…

received a message that someone was going to drop off some chocolate within the hour, so I responded saying as long as it wasn’t while the service was on…

then my son-in-law called and said he was on the way over for tea… he and the youngest arrived just as the moment of silence was taking place…

we watched together and a few minutes later there was a loud noise coming from the driveway… the person who is going to clear my snow had come over and was blowing the little bit of snow on the ground with a strong leaf blower… I wrote out cheques while we were watching the tv and then waited for him to knock on the door… eventually I realized he had left…

about then the kids left…

didn’t really get to watch much of the ceremony, lol…

decided not to nap in case either the snow blower person or the chocolate person turned up…

the snow clearing person arrived a bit later and I gave him the cheques…

wasn’t until I was making supper that the chocolate person arrived…

much busier day than expected…
