I searched through my photos and it looks like August 11 was the first time I took a photo of the buds on the mandevilla… this was the first time this summer that this houseplant has even started to get buds…
this morning, 26 days later, the first bloom is open…
they take an incredible amount of time to open;-)…

it was rather chilly yesterday morning… I wore pants, a long sleeve shirt and my spring/fall jacket for my walk;-(…
after the walk, with my daughter on the phone, I had breakfast and checked out the garden, but it was still chilly, lol…
deadheaded the datura in the front flower bed, did some reading and watched a very informative webinar on bird migration…
seemed like a busy day, lol…

had a short walkabout this morning and took some photos of flowers in the garden…
the water lily looks to be opening for the last time… the other two are already sinking into the water…
the butterfly bush is still blooming every day…
the datura has some beautiful colours…
there are still a few morning glories blooming each day…
and finally, the sunflower is beginning to open… not sure if it will produce sunflower seeds…

spent some time in the front flower bed tidying the datura…
they are doing great… I’ve been trimming the spent blossoms so that the plant might make more flowers;-)…
also made sure that all the debris went into the pots and washed my hands afterwards as they are poisonous…
the other day I may have put my hand to my lips and had a strange sensation so am being more careful…

spent the morning in the garden watching chickadees, monarchs, nuthatches, squirrels and fish…
the nuthatch was not interested in a photo op and even the chickadees were not particularly cooperative…
the monarch was happily guzzling nectar from the butterfly bush, so I was able to get a number of photos… I am very happy to finally have this plant in the garden and hope that I can get some seeds from it for next year or maybe even try to bring it into the house to see if it will overwinter…
it looks like there will be two more water lily flowers with a possible third one… very exciting…
I hadn’t been out in the garden for a few days and really enjoyed time with the members of my garden sanctuary;-)…

on my walk this morning all the photos of flowers that I took were pinky/purple, lol…
although it was a holiday and I left the house a bit later than normal, there were few people out and about…

a lovely Sunday…
spent most of the day in the garden, watching squirrels, chickadees, butterflies and goldfish…
watched a little red squirrel make hundreds of trips across the upper deck to collect sunflowers for its stash… saw the frog and a purple house finch, read and napped in the garden…
brought out some of the flowers I received yesterday to enjoy…
so happy to have this space to entertain and was pleased to have visitors from out of town… enjoyed steak and lobster for dinner and some quiet late night star gazing…
we were quite late in eating and I giggled a bit when I realized that I didn’t remember to take a picture of my supper…

fifty years ago today at 4:30 pm I married the love of my life…
I have been without him for the past nine… below is a photo of our last anniversary together… we had a wonderful dinner at Locals in Courtenay;-)…
those were quite the amazing and wonder-filled forty-two (less four months) years…
I wandered through various files and binders in search of our wedding invitation… it was kind of fun to look at all of these memories… came across a few anniversary cards in the process…
on our fortieth anniversary he brought me forty roses to the hospital… we were supposed to have flown to Courtenay for our vacation just a few days before…
they were amazing and the scent was delightful, although each night they had to be moved into the hall because the perfume overpowered the entire room and it was difficult to sleep, lol…
I have so blessed…

had a great day: phone calls with two special friends, a garden visit with another great friend, and three hours with Hilda the Gardener where I did a lot of deadheading…
