had a wonderful day in the garden…

spent time watching birds at the feeder… then a squirrel ran past me, swam across the pond and vanished under the cedar tree…

20140706-205339-75219925.jpgdon’t think this was the one who took the swim, but it wandered by as I was quietly sitting reading…

20140706-205656-75416132.jpgthe goldfinch flew right by me as well and landed on the flat rock that the water flows over for a drink… we were very close to one another…

the kids were over in the afternoon and spotted more baby fish… two different batches as there are three sizes swimming around… the five I found… a group half that size and some weeny ones that are all dark coloured but that might be because they are so tiny…

after everyone left I lay down on the floating chair without even putting on the cover and read and enjoyed the sounds of the garden…

a couple of days ago my iPhone wouldn’t let me take a picture, because it said it was full… at the time I just deleted a few pictures and forgot about it…

earlier today a message flashed across my screen about memory being full…

tonight I spent about an hour copying and then deleting pictures…

I took this one as I was heading toward the car after dropping off our mail…

this sculpture is called Emptyful and has water coming down as well as mist floating through the air… at night the lights on it rotate through three or four colours…

you have to be careful which side you walk through so that you don’t get misted on… always seems to be misting on overcast cool days and it never mists on you on the hot days as you walk past…

the weather has been a bit odd, mainly cloudy and cool, and the blue sky was just starting to emerge  as I was leaving work… rain has been threatening for a few days but keeps holding off… tomorrow morning I am going to have to water the plants in the garden… that will probably bring the rain, lol…

was a long day at work and I had to stop and pick up some groceries for a meeting tomorrow, so by the time I drove up to the house I was feeling tired and a bit sorry for myself…

as I turned into the driveway the flower beds jumped out at me…

20140624-203504-74104910.jpgI realized that my son-in-law had been over and dug out most of the grass that was filling the bed…

20140624-203744-74264414.jpgthis showed what it looked like when we put the planters into it, and that was weeks ago…

I’ve been able to see the grass moving from the living room while sitting down, lol…

apparently my irises have been blooming and I didn’t even know it…

besides the two flower beds he also mowed the grass in the front yard and the back garden…

perked me right up…

now I have to decide whether to just put down newspaper over the bed and around the plants in it or dig up the five or six plants I want to keep and put them into pots on top of the newspaper which will kill the grass under it…

hmmmmm…

had a very poor sleep last night… when I got up I started the day with a hot tub…

20140622-195524-71724240.jpgafter a shower I sat out in the garden and read and thought about doing a bit of weeding…

designed and printed a birthday card for my grandson, which I was able to do from my chair in the garden, thanks to some of the work of my son-in-law when they were here last weekend…

was just thinking about making something to eat when my daughter texted to let me know she was at the hospital with a possible broken foot…

spent the next three hours with her in Emergency…

helped with the party and got a ride home and am now heading for bed… the day didn’t turn out quite as planned or expected…

was supposed to rain, so I got up early and had a peaceful hot tub to start the day…

then into the garden to read and enjoy a cup of tea…

20140621-191900-69540956.jpglately I’ve been using a travel mug so that my tea doesn’t get filled with elm seeds, lol, although I think they are just about finished raining down from the trees…

spent a bit of time preparing five pounds of potato salad for the nine year old’s birthday party tomorrow…

started planting while it was still shady in the garden, but ran out of soil so couldn’t do any more for the time being…

my grandson arrived and the two of us planned next weekend’s activities around the scattering of George’s ashes…

once the plan was made we had to decide on the location which took us a while…

ate lunch, picked up some soil, checked out plants, grabbed a few things we will need on the weekend at the Dollar Store and found some fish for the second pond…

came home, had a rest and basically finished the planting…

20140607-214428-78268429.jpgthroughout the day the elm tree has been raining down thousands of seeds… the pond was full of them even though we cleaned a bunch out…

there are still lots of things to plant in the garden but I didn’t get anything done tonight…

on my way to the car this morning I realized the water in the pond was very low, I spent about five minutes filling it… that amount of time didn’t add very much water…

was worried that the fish might get in trouble if it got much lower…

20140603-212110-76870849.jpgwe think it is leaking again due to something happening when the uv filter went in…

my pond guy is planning to stop by Thursday or Friday to sort out the problem…

I have noticed that when it rains the pond doesn’t get all murky like it was in the fall so I think the swale they built fixed that problem which is wonderful…

I think I am taking on some of George’s characteristics because now when I walk through an area in the garden I find myself pulling weeds as I go and then going back to pick them up off the ground later, lol… I kept trying to get him to carry a small pail so he didn’t have to retrace his steps…

what a serene and peaceful place I inhabit…

the uv filter is in, almost…

what a beautiful day…

spent it outside… the new cushions are very comfy, but I still have to figure out what to do with the stools…

spent some time reading and some time working in the garden…

I work in short spurts and then rest a bit and then work a bit more…

the pond guy came by and we both think that the leak is fixed… he will come and cover up some of the liner that is showing and glue down a loose stone sometime this week…

woke up to a skiff of snow on the bench that circles the deck… it is May 14 people!

it was still cool when I got home from work, but I took the time to finish filling the pond…

20140514-224612.jpg in between the running out I made pasta with the leftover crab and asparagus from Sunday’s dinner… it was delicious…

20140514-224842.jpgbeen thinking of George a lot lately… he would have been out in the garden and the garage puttering and getting things ready for spending time outside… I just need someone to come and do some of that work, lol…
