the other day I came across some slides from the 70s…

this first one is from a trip we took with my beloved’s parents to Vancouver in 1978… it was just after our first daughter was born… she travelled in a travel bassinet for the whole trip… times have certainly changed, lol…

at least every second day something bad happened to the car… from blown tires, the muffler falling off at least three times, to windows freezing in the open position, to the engine catching fire… and other things in between…

clearly, a trip to remember…

the second photo is of a camping trip… shows our Chevelle and camper… I purchased that car with my dad in 1968 and we had it for many years… it was a wonderful car… and I have many amazing memories of our times with it…

the camper we have now is very similar to that one… I hope we make as many memories with it;-)…

went to Canadian Tire because they had a sale on… I’d decided after my Christmas Eve skate that I’d like to get my own so we could all skate together…

got the cutest ones… they have a C on them and mauve accents;-)… I mean, clearly designed specifically for me…

we went to The Forks, along with what felt like millions of other people, and had fun skating on the River Trail…

I still worry about falling but they had the neatest chairs on skis… it was wonderful to have one to steady me and I was able to relax and get more comfortable… soon I was gliding along… one day I might be able to do that without hanging on to something or someone, lol…

my daughter had a problem with one of her feet so I pushed her for a while… gave the youngest a short ride and then he pushed me for a bit… my son-in-law ended up giving me a very fast ride back to the start;-)…

didn’t skate for long, but it was great fun to be outside with the kids…

maybe next week we will go to the Duck Pond…

pleased…

for the last four or five years one of my first acts of the New Year has been to change my Chihuly calendar from the last year to the coming one…

when I went to change it this morning and turned up the last page of the 2018 calendar it was a lovely photo of a Float Boat… I love the circular shapes and gorgeous colours and was sad that I wouldn’t see them…

when I opened up the 2019 calendar the first photo was of Mille Fiore… lovely blues and purples… the calendars have a few months before January and a few after December…

the January picture was all clear and didn’t make me at all excited…

so I changed it… cut the photo out and put it over the clear pic, lol..

I am pleased with the final product…

later in the afternoon I spent some time in the hot tub and thought of the various places I have seen Float Boats… the first place was at Chihuly Gardens and Glass in 2013 with my daughter and son-in-law when they were living on Vancouver Island…

I’ve also seen lots of photos in books on Chihuly…

and my favourite was from our visit to the Atlanta Botanical Garden in 2016…

lovely memories…

I’ve been a bit lonely over the last week or so… most Christmases my older daughter and her husband have come home… it didn’t work out this year…

was out in the hot tub this morning, first time in ages… a bit later these two pictures came up in my Facebook memories…

the first is deadly chocolate mousse cake, her favourite… I always make sure to have it in the house when she comes… in fact whenever I go to visit her, I take some as well… we always have the cake for breakfast, which the grandsons think is amazing;-)…

the second is of our water boots from last Christmas… she loves the hot tub and our usual pattern is a late night dip before bed…

it was my other son-in-law who suggested water boots many years ago… they work perfectly so that my feet never get cold or snowy…

today I spent some time cooking… turkey and dumplings, and mashed potato and garlic soup…

they both came out pretty tasty, although I am not going to be able to have the potato soup for work lunches because it reeks of garlic, lol…

this morning I spent time using the new computer…

the pictures are all in one folder which I have started to go through looking for duplicates… so happy they are all in the same place… I used to have to go searching through a number of drives to find some of them…

while I was sorting out various bookmarks I noticed that I now have 300 followers… this is much more visible viewed on the computer… kind of giggled because the number has been hovering just under for quite some time…

also, I’ve noticed many people or organizations celebrating ten or fifteen thousand followers… makes my 300 seem rather inconsequential…

but it made me happy…

shortly before that I had watched beautiful sun dogs out the back… first ones I’ve seen this season…

had a great lunch out yesterday…

met a friend at Capital Broadway Grill and Bar…

hadn’t heard of it although it is only a few blocks from the office…

we started with a lovely tomato and coconut soup which was one of the day’s specials… yum… I had steamed PEI mussels and fries with white wine, bacon, tomato, roasted garlic… it was very nice…

my friend had the seared rare nicoise (gf) organic greens tossed with French beans, tomatoes,olives, boiled eggs, Dijon dressing…

always wonderful to spend time with special people…

the older I get, the more I enjoy and savour the special moments in life…

this can be a melancholy time of year… often we think of those who are gone and won’t be with us to celebrate… I made sure to put my beloved’s stocking out where I could see it and remember the many wonderful celebrations we had…

it also seems to be a time when people are ill or feeling alone…

I was thinking of that when I took pictures of the poinsettias…

when you glance at them from one angle it appears there is only one, all alone… but when you look at them from another point of view you see there are many of them…

when I’m sad, I often get caught up in thinking I am all alone… good to think of the many who are there to support me…

the trick is to remember and be brave enough to tell them I need them… and then to accept the help, lol…

we haven’t had much snow so far… on Sunday I walked over to meet my family for breakfast…

snow was gently falling and it was beautiful…

stopped along the way and took this shot of snow on a truck which was right by the sidewalk…

then I got my camera out and took some snowflake pictures… enjoyed the chance to spend some time playing with the camera…

reminded me of all the times that my beloved and I would go places so that I could take pictures… I sure do miss him…

yesterday my BS friends and I went out for a birthday lunch… wasn’t really sure whose it was as we are way behind in our celebrating, lol…

only to discover it was my birthday lunch…

what a wonderful time we had… my first time at Little Goat on Portage…

I had moules et frites… very tasty…

such fun spending time with these amazing women…

we have a tradition that the birthday person gets their card in a very old gift bag that we put a photo of us into many years ago… it is rather delicate now after years of travelling from one person to the next…

part of the deal is that you are in charge of the bag once you get it and have to remember where it is for the next time it is needed…

how lucky am I to have these very special women in my life…
