I consulted with my son-in-law about my printer, which says it wants to talk to a technician, lol… sadly, it is dead and I need to replace it… that exact one isn’t available and there are so many options which I have to decide on, and most importantly, will I be able to connect a new one… on to the homework…
recently I’ve been using my landline number on purchases as I am basically always in the house…
a few days ago I received a call and none of my portable phones worked… they all say “out of range”… I tried unplugging and replugging them in, but to no avail…
luckily, I have two phones upstairs that actually connect with a phone plug and so I brought one down to the main floor while I try to figure this out…
technology is such a gift when it is working, but a pain when it isn’t, particularly when no one can come into the house…
I was without internet and cell service for five days… just to be clear, in case you were worried, I did survive;-)…
all my phone could do was take pictures, act as a flashlight and let me play my solitaire game on occasion… if you wanted to speak to someone who wasn’t there you had to use the landline…
as I was preparing to leave for the trip, I would think of things like – oh, I can change the lights in the house occasionally so it looks lived in, or I can text my daughter with information she would need, or I can call my grandson to remind him about watering the plants, or I can add my meals to MyFitnessPal, etc. etc… nope, no, I could NOT…
when you don’t use the phone, you don’t need to carry it around so much though… although it was handy if my camera wasn’t close by… there was a good deal of reading of paperbacks, doing newspaper crosswords and talking with one another…
while there, the discussion arose as to what was more needed – internet access or a shower… I mean, the lake is right there, so clearly the answer is the internet;-)…
it was like the old days, lol…
on the return trip, all of a sudden, the phone started to beep and buzz and ding as it came into cell range and emails and messages starting downloading… it was funny…
in October I upgraded my Costco membership thinking it would result in a bit of a refund…
recently I’ve talked with many people asking about their Costco refunds and been rather ticked that I didn’t get one… each person advised they had received a cheque in the mail…
today I finally got around to calling to see what was going on… they were obviously busy because I was on hold for quite some time…
eventually, I spoke with a lovely woman… she advised that the cheque was on the second page of my renewal letter… which came weeks ago… and which I opened but didn’t look at the second page, lol…
she was very kind and we laughed together over the whole thing… what a sweet woman… not a single person mentioned it came with the renewal letter…
I’ve also been waiting for an invoice from my amazing tax preparer but hadn’t seen one…
this afternoon my refund cheque arrived which reminded me to call to find out how much I owed them, but they were closed… then I searched through my email to see if I could find anything and came across an email with the invoice in it… it came minutes after the original one with my results… too funny…
and then, for the trifecta, I tried to open my new online app and deposit the cheque into my account, using my phone… I used an old password and eventually was blocked from the site… called the bank and I have to wait until tomorrow for it to reset… then I can try again, as I now remember the correct password, lol…
this afternoon I spent half an hour talking with a few people at the phone company…
we have been customers for forty-eight years and use all of the services that they provide…
the last bill was ridiculous, especially for one person…
when I was travelling in April I had added unlimited calling to my cell phone so I wanted to have that taken off…
while I was talking with Ella she found things we could change that would bring my bill down by around $30 per month…
then she put me on the line with Melanie to see if they could do anything to reward me for being a loyal customer…
she found a few items and my bill will be reduced by over $75 for the next six months…
seems to me they might consider a permanent reduction, but for now I have marked my calendar and will call them again in six months… rather frustrating that I have to be on top of this all the time…
I must say the two women I spoke with were very helpful…
