spent time today putting away all the hearts and refreshing the living room table…

often at this time of year I would be filling it with rocks and shells, but that seems a little early…

I gathered up all the silver and purple ornaments and took them downstairs…

then I put some Chihuly calendar pictures in the four squares and added a few other items… one square has my gardening books as I’ve been looking through them to work on the garden design for the summer…

another has a few of my favourite children’s books in it, and some cards with fun pictures of time on Maui…

the third one holds my new pouch and postcards…

the last one has items to read… magazines, my tablet and kobo… and some butterfly things…

looks good and makes me happy…

I’ve been talking with the squirrels a lot lately… I’ve put a small table under the bird feeder and have been putting seed out every morning and explaining to whichever one comes around that the food on the table is for them and the feeder is for the birds…

sometimes it takes quite a few conversations… other times it feels like they get it, lol…

as I’ve mentioned previously there are many squirrels that come into the garden… I haven’t decided whether the gray squirrels or the red squirrels understand better…

and they are not good at sharing, lol…

and, of course, eating from the table is easier…

played with some technology so that I could have Easter dinner with the kids in Ottawa…

we tried two or three options and ended up using Google Duo… worked nicely, once we got it figured out after my son-in-law found it, lol…

they got a bit fancier with their table… I was focussed on getting the computer set up, lol…

I had roast chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, turnip, asparagus and cranberry jelly… they had homemade pasta, salad and chocolate bunnies:-)…

everything was delicious and it was a nice treat to eat with others…

sun shone all day which is great… Saturday is my rest day and I try not to leave the house…

had a fun time changing out the drawer in the living room coffee table…

put away all of the pictures of beautiful Chihuly installations and family photos… brought back some lovely memories of our meeting with him in Seattle… like shaking the hand of a rock star;-)…

pulled out the box filled with sea shells and used them to fill the four quadrants… I remember how excited I was to find this table at IKEA that the shells could go into…

of course, I’ve lost two different batches of shells since then, lol…

but it looks lovely and beach-y...

yesterday, while my grandson was here we set the table for Easter dinner…

together we decided on the tablecloth, dishes, platters, bowls, and how we would put the gifts on the plates… I used to buy books for all the special times, but now they are bigger I give them gift cards so they can make their own choice of something to read… also had a chocolate bunny for each of them…

while we were out shopping we picked up an angel food cake, strawberries and whipping cream for dessert… he cut the strawberries up before he left…

when the family arrived this afternoon the boys searched for treats from the Easter bunny… they found tons of mini eggs…

I had Easter treats too… got myself a beautiful heart-shaped amethyst from Poco Inspired, the kids brought me a bag of Ferrero Rocher mini eggs, and apparently there is a bag on my daughter’s mantle in Ottawa waiting for me;-)…

spent a bit of time on New Year’s Eve prepping for our traditional New Year’s Day dinner…

while the kids were out, I began setting the table, and finished it early on New Year’s Day… decided on a silver and purple theme and had some fun finding decorations and napkins that would go well together…

there were just enough leftover Christmas crackers for everyone to get one and we read jokes, but did not put on any paper hats, lol… we can just squeeze around the table when there are eight of us and I have to push it up to the window so that everyone can get in… the table can expand further, the problem is that the dining room can’t…

while the steak and lobster tails finished thawing I prepped the potatoes for baking, cut up the Brussels sprouts, sliced the mushrooms and prepared the sauce for the escargot stuffed mushrooms…

once the kids arrived the sons-in-law looked after barbecuing the steaks and lobster… finished up a Caesar salad and the melted butter pots…

everyone had a taste of champagne or sparkling cider and we enjoyed a delicious dinner… we aren’t going to talk about the slightly overcooked Brussels sprouts, sigh…

we were all worn out so we ended the evening with a short visit and the Winnipeg kids headed home…

a bit of reading and visiting and we all headed to bed…

lovely start to the new year…

had to skip walking on the treadmill this morning so I could water the plants in the garden…

it has been amazingly hot over the last few days… I don’t like to water in the evening, so was happy to take the time early to get the job done…

the morning glories are exploding everywhere… the ones that are trying to come up through the table make me laugh…

for years we have had Virginia creeper growing along the north side of the garage and it never had berries… it has grown over the pergola into the south side and since that has happened it started to produce the berries…

this morning I got a few nice shots of some of them…

too bad we can’t eat them, lol…

watching the JUNOs and enjoying all the performances…

more time in the computer room… not sure you can tell that I spent hours in there today, but progress is being made…

  
it was too funny this afternoon… as I was putting the sea shells into the drawers of the living room table, snow was falling outside…

  
the best news was that I knew exactly where the shells were located… no vanishing this year…

  
went to the Home and Garden show this afternoon with the kids… picked up a lovely wooden spoon… I have a bit of a thing for wooden spoons… don’t seem able to get rid of any old ones…

also found a new cleaning service… very happy about that as my cleaner just advised yesterday that she isn’t able to continue due to the distance from her area to mine… makes sense, but made me sad as they were excellent…

stumbled upon Polished Cleaning Services at the event and was impressed with them… looking forward to a great relationship… and pleased to have this all sorted out…

progress made on many fronts…

worn right out…

worked on a project first thing…

  
my daughter picked me up and we went to IKEA to purchase a table and chairs for their new house…

  
it is a housewarming, anniversary and Christmas gift… 

rushed over to the other side of the city for a volleyball game…

  
had to get reacquainted with the rules, but enjoyed watching it… bonus was that they won this one…

stopped off for a few groceries after the game and picked up a basil plant… going to keep this one in the house… the ones that were on the deck didn’t do well with the frost last week…

  
had a lovely barbecued steak for dinner at the new table…

  
I don’t get much cooked on the barbecue these days, so really enjoyed it…

after dinner we sat around their new fire pit… beautiful end to a very busy day…

  
my son-in-law drove me home and I am headed to bed…

so I bought that coffee table a while ago… it is lovely…

there is one small problem… it is a bit shallow…

I’ve been searching the house for the box of shells… I saw it not two months ago and I went right to the spot where I was sure it was… but it wasn’t…

so far I have only filled up one quarter of the drawer, and it is looking good… I have many shells other than the ones in the box, lol…
