thumping…

woke up to a light dusting of snow on the ground and then spent a good portion of the morning at various windows watching the elm tree two doors down being removed…

the gentle thumping of the equipment was like background noise, lol…

there were at least five trucks, plus a small tracker and quite a few workers…

they used a machine I haven’t seen before… it was run from the ground and had a claw that grabbed the branch or trunk and cut through it… then it lowered it to the ground where the tractor picked it up and put the end into the chipper, where another worker turned it on and filled up a truck with the wood chips…

seemed like it was all very safe for those working…

as you drive down the street, it is hard to even tell where they were working…

out shopping on Saturday morning for the last of the Christmas presents…

went to two stores, neither was overly busy and everything on the list was obtained…

happy to be finished …

then spent a bit of time wrapping;-)…

all of the parcels are now under the tree;-)…

tried to make napkins shaped like trees;-)…

they would have been better with green fabric, but this was what I had to work with, lol…

the first one came out not too bad, but after that, each one was different;-)…

apparently I need to practice for a while with the video in front of me…

the Christmas boxes came out from under the staircase last Sunday… the goal is to reduce the size of the collection as each box is gone through…

Monday, the snow people were moved into the den… they look very cute in there… none were disposed of…

Tuesday, a great number of glass balls were hung in the dining room window… this involved separating ones which had been hung together previously and then hanging them individually… took some time, but came out nicely I think…

Wednesday, more ornaments were put up with the pottery and some of the most beautiful ones were hung on the dining room chandelier…

Thursday was about reindeer and sleighs… and even some snowflakes…

Friday involved the tree… it is filled with purple, silver and glittery ornaments… quite different from my usual choices…

there are lots of little disco balls on it and the ceiling and walls were quite sparkly as the sun shines through the window;-)…

I have been enjoying the process of focussing on one item each day and taking my time completing the decorating…

I did decide to give away some blue and red ornaments and a few wreaths, lol…

way to go me;-)…

when we were in the garden on Sunday, we removed a ton of leaves from the pond… always makes me think of the lovely neighbours we have had over the years, being as how the tree that sheds those leaves is located in their yard, lol…

there were still numerous ones left, but we were able to dig down past them and catch three fish to bring into the house…

I wanted to do a bit of a test in the biggest tank to be sure that the water was safe for them…

after they acclimatized to the house temperature they made it into their condo…

so far they seem happy and healthy;-)…

Monday another hole was made in the sky…

first thing in the morning a number of trucks filled up the street…

they were there to cut down one of the elm trees… I hadn’t realized that it had been marked…

it took four hours to get it down to the stump… and then they left… about an hour later a few of them returned and ground it down to nothing…

amazing how complicated the process is… it was interesting to watch…

spent some time trimming the hibiscus now that most of the buds have opened…

here it was before the haircut, kind of scraggly…

and after, being careful not to cut off any of the remaining buds;-)…

I think it looks much tidier and it is much easier to walk past it, lol… and then it had another bloom;-)…

here it is five years ago… so tiny…

and since then it has lost one whole stem…

I wasn’t expecting to get up early, but apparently my body remembers previous Christmas mornings, lol… although it was 6:47 am when I woke up, for many years it was often around 4… and I would eventually start banging pots in the kitchen to encourage all of the sleepers to wake up…

around 7:30 I got up, made breakfast and then read for a while in the living room enjoying the tree lights…

there were matching pyjamas, calls, texts, visits and naps throughout the day… the naps may have had something to do with the 6:47 wake-up, lol…

spaced amongst all of that were relaxing dinner preparations… beautiful mashed potatoes, delicious stuffing and tasty gravy went perfectly with chicken, turnip, ham, and previously homemade cranberry sauce…
