today I went to see the physiotherapist again for my knee…

before he looked at it, they iced it… then he checked to see what was still painful… happily most of what he did, didn’t hurt… yay…

then he used ultrasound on it, followed by an electrical current… the ultrasound just feels like gentle massaging but I’m not so sure how I feel about the electricity bit… he describes the feeling as worms running around under your skin… hmmm…

he was showing his Jets love with a great jersey…

we talked about what types of physio I needed to do while I am away to stay on the improvement journey… we also discussed treatments that might be available in the future if it doesn’t settle down… people have given me many suggestions, lol…

I will see him once I get back from my trip… looking forward to walking without a limp;-)…

well, easy does it…

when I opened the door to head to work for an early event today, this is what I saw…

people, it is April 12th, sigh… even wore boots because I didn’t want to slip and twist my knee…

sat in the living room for a few minutes when I got home and enjoyed the full canopy on the Japanese Maple and the lovely little rose which I am hoping to plant in the garden whenever it gets warm enough… what a difference a few weeks have made…

had breakfast while I was out, so for supper I had a smoothie… fancied it up with some 100% chocolate squares… and finished the meal off with the last two Christmas shortbread cookies which I found by accident in a kitchen drawer…

what a treat…

this morning I had a happy surprise when I went by the window in the hallway…

it was around six am and the light was still glowing in the garden… the solar light had stayed on all night… surely a sign of warmer days and stronger sunlight…

had to go back to the bedroom to get my phone so I could get a photo of it…

as I drank my smoothie I also noticed the moon out the window…

every day is getting lighter… this makes me very happy…

the recent problem with my knee has reminded me of some of the health issues I’ve overcome in the last ten years…

in 2010 I spent six weeks in hospital with pancreatitis and gall bladder surgery… during that time I was constantly throwing up – one of the things I most hate to do… I remember being so scared when we drove away from the hospital, wondering if I would ever feel better… at that time I still had a drainage tube in my side and felt nauseated all the time… but I had my beloved by my side as I slowly recovered…

in 2012 I spent 3 days in hospital when I had a combined hysterectomy and hernia repair… within eight hours of the surgery I had stopped taking any medications… the pain was easier to deal with than the crazy reactions I had to the drugs… this was just a few months after the loss of my beloved… I remember the drive home which was excruciating as we drove over potholes… I couldn’t lift anything for six weeks, had moved into the main floor bedroom and had friends come to stay to look after me… recovery was a slow painful process…

thinking of the events above has pointed out to me that this knee business is really not a big deal, lol…

sometimes looking back can help deal with the present…

what I have learned is that I need to take care of myself when I am not 100%…

a few weeks ago I picked up some new knives… they are a bit heavier that the old ones… put them up onto the IKEA magnet beside the stove…

the first day I cut myself as one slid down the magnet and I caught it…

and a few days ago, the same one slid down and landed on the stove…

I was so happy to see that the glass top of the stove didn’t crack…

but then I realized that the end of the knife put two chips in the porcelain…

every time I look at the stove I wonder what is on it, before remembering that these are the chips, lol…

going to have to have someone come and fill them up…

weather has been rather silly recently…

Thursday afternoon the sun was shining and there were puddles on the streets as I drove home… looked out the window in the evening and snow was falling…

Friday morning I took some pictures of the snow and the cool patterns that have formed as the snow melts…

since then there’s been lots of sunshine but temperatures have been below normal… today when the kids were here for dinner, the boys went down the street to play football in the field…

maybe, just maybe, Spring is coming…

today the hot tub got fixed… I am so happy…

this afternoon I was able to go out and attach the hose to drain it… this process takes about three hours…

managed to do this without kneeling down, which was great because my knee is still sore…

process was a bit dicey because I didn’t want water to freeze in the tub and wreck it…

my son-in-law stopped in on his way home from work…

he moved the hot tub out from the wall, had to remove one of the panels, was able to fix a broken fastener and finally screw the replacement arm in place…

he pushed it back up against the wall and I started to fill it… amazingly it didn’t even take an hour to fill up…

sometimes the pump doesn’t start as easily as it should, but today it got going perfectly… now it is heating…

because it is plugged into a regular output it takes quite a while to heat up… likely won’t be at the correct temperature for a few days…

looking forward to getting into it soon;-)…

my goodness, crazy busy day…

woke up really early and watched a few tv shows…

had difficulty walking as my right knee has gone from a bit of discomfort to serious pain…

got ready and went for blood work for my next doctor’s appointment… I always try not to stress but it is difficult as I wonder if I’ve consumed the wrong foods which could have raised my A1C… the technician did a great job as I barely have a mark on my arm… yay…

was able to get in for a pedicure at the last minute and it went well… a few times I had to hold my leg as the aesthetician worked on it… she had lovely purple hair and is the most gentle person on staff…

then it was off to the physiotherapist office to see what they might be able to do to help my very sore knee… it had been uncomfortable for a while but in the last two days I have barely been able to walk…

he advised that is was inflamed but felt it was likely osteoarthritis… did lots of measuring, pushing and pulling and then used ultrasound and electricity on it… I have things to do three times a day and go back in a week… he mentioned that it was likely going to hurt a bit more after all his prodding… and he was right…

icing it as I write this… good news is that it should be much better by the time I head to Ottawa;-)…

took this picture of the April page on my Chihuly calendar…

when I turned to this page it reminded me of the wonderful installation at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and how much fun we had there…

the other place where there was a fabulous installation of the floats was at Chihuly Garden and Glass in Seattle… many floats were placed inside a row boat, just sitting on the floor in a huge empty room… very cool…

been working on nametags for an event I volunteer for occasionally… off and on over the last week I’ve designed, prepared a list, merged it, printed, separated and stuffed them…

it has reminded me of the first year at my current position when I would agonize over preparing nametags for any events we did… for the longest time I would lose every seventh name on a list… then the printer and I would fight over the printing process… eventually I would come out on top, but only after numerous trips to the printer and a lot of stress…

since then I have refined the process of making nametags and enjoy the various steps, which is particularly handy as I make them all the time…

no matter what, it still takes a good bit of time and energy to get a set ready, lol…

happy the job is done…
