sun was out and it only felt like -14 Celsius, so I went outside to see about getting rid of the ice that has built up where I stand to get into and out of the hot tub…
ice here seems unusual, but could be because I haven’t cleared the snow on my path to the tub every single time it has snowed, lol…
anyway, I’ve slipped a few times so it felt important to clean it up…
that, of course, meant I had to get into the garage to get the ice chopper… but the good news is that now the doorknob has been removed I can get in via the person door again… so I had to shovel to get there…
once I had the chopper it took a while to get rid of most of the ice as the sun doesn’t shine in this area of the garden;-)… handy tool to get the job done…
was careful not to get too close to where the power cord goes… but, it is done and now safe to get in and out of the hot tub…
was on my way downstairs to go out to the hot tub on Friday and heard a loud noise… looked out the window to see one of the two hardcovers laying on the ground… not attached to either side of the tub…
it had slipped out of my grandson’s hands and, in the very cold weather, broke both arms that hold it on…
luckily, after we soaked for a while the two of us were able to set it back where it belonged… no single person hot tubs until it gets repaired, lol, as it will take two of us to open and close the cover…
happily Krevco had some arms available…
we will wait for a warm day to empty the tub, move it to install the arm closest to the house, put it back, connect the second arm, and refill the tub…
the wooden bird picture that my middle grandson gave me about a year ago has finally made it onto the wall… we had to pick up wire to use as it is heavy and the usual fishing line wasn’t going to hold it up…
looks great and I am so proud of him as he did a good job of making it…
then we put a new sweep on the bottom of the back door so that cold air isn’t flowing down into the basement… bit of a process, but it was finally complete… better than it was, for sure…
a strip of carpet got cut and repositioned so that feet won’t be on concrete on the way to the bathroom, lol…
the final piece of work was cutting and installing a tile over the light in the bathroom…
had a quiet day… it was snowing when I got up and didn’t stop until around 4 pm…
then the sun came out and it looked beautiful… looked being the operative word as, sadly, right now it feels like -30 Celsius… brrrrr…
spent a good portion of the day on the couch reading a book by one of my favourite authors and barely got my steps in… when I am into one of those books, it is hard to stop to get up and walk around…
but, was happy to take a few pictures of the lovely blooms around the space…
around 5:30 vehicles began to arrive with boxes and furniture, as my grandson moved into the basement for the next while… of course, by that time it was snowing and blowing…
the empty space was all of a sudden filled up with stuff again, in a very messy way… yikes…
after all the stuff was brought in, we had pizza and wings to thank the helpers and celebrate the move being completed…
I was happy because I got a heart-shaped one, ate half of it, and saved the rest for lunch the next day…
the trees have been stunningly beautiful over the last while…
quite a bit of that time the sky was gray so even though it was lovely, it didn’t make for any great photos…
the last few days the sun has been shining brightly…
this frost appears to be rime frost…
from Weather Lab:
“With rime, the moisture comes from freezing fog water droplets that turn directly from a liquid state to a solid state, or through direct freezing. On the other hand, hoar frost occurs on a clear, cold night where water vapor sublimates: transitioning immediately from a gaseous state to a solid state.” Jan 5, 2021
