made cream of mushroom soup on Saturday…
had some mushrooms that needed to be used up, so I searched Pinterest for a recipe…
the one I tried was simple and turned out delicious…
made me happy because I no longer use canned soups and now I may make some recipes that call for them…

a while ago, as I was sitting on the deck reading, I smelled hot oil…
my neighbour was making French fries for his family… he makes them in the garage so the house doesn’t get all smelly…
it reminded me of my beloved… one of his specialties was homemade French fries…
I really wanted some, and finally made a batch of frozen ones… not nearly as delicious as his, lol… but helped with the craving…
interesting how quickly a scent can take you somewhere…

had a great day on Tuesday…
worked on homemade spaghetti sauce for a good portion of the day…
watched chickadees, nuthatches, and squirrels out the front window…
set the table for supper with the kids and tidied the house in preparation for the cleaners…
finished getting the rest of supper ready and had a great visit over the meal…
and they fixed the fire pit…

my neighbour brought over a container of chili and asked if I would like more apples…
a month ago they had given me a large bowl full and I made applesauce…
I used small baggies in a muffin tin and it worked well…
this time, I put the sauce directly into the tins, put them in the freezer, and when they were frozen, packaged and popped them back into the freezer…
they were a little difficult to remove from the cold metal, but this will save excess plastic and also take up less space…

today, my BS group gathered in the living room…
we’ve been meeting in the garden but it was only going to 2 degrees Celsius so we decided it was time to come inside…
one person joined via Zoom and had dropped off a lovely treat for us beforehand… boob (for breast cancer awareness month) and regular macarons from Jenna Rae Cakes…
I left the front and back doors open to move fresh air… everyone wore masks until we were all seated…
it was the first time we’ve met in the house since the pandemic began…
felt lovely and odd at the same time, lol…
soon we will all have had the fifth shot which will make us feel a bit more confident about being in a closed space together…
so happy to be getting back to more ‘normal’ times…

was talking with someone recently and making tea at the same time…
as I was squeezing the teabag, they mentioned hearing that doing this bruised the tea, which was a bad thing…
made me laugh as I’ve done it forever to get any additional flavour out of the bag before discarding it…

made a hot breakfast, cause it felt like that kind of day, and then gathered the ingredients to prepare ham, cabbage and potatoes…
this would give it time to cook and then cool before heating it up for supper…
while that was cooking, I finished shredding the rest of the cabbage, a bit of green onion, and some carrot… I added the last of the dressing I had in the cupboard and finished that recipe…
finally, I cut and scooped three ripe avocados into containers to go into the freezer for smoothies…
yesterday I prepared zucchini basil soup…
feels a bit like I am getting ready for hibernation…

prepped some items from the garden…
gathered morning glory seeds and brought in a ton of parsley… it didn’t get eaten up this year, lol… talked with Google about ways to prepare it for the winter…
two suggestions sounded like something to try… I pulled off most of the stalks and put half of the parsley onto parchment paper and then baked it in the oven for about twenty minutes… when it cooled I crushed it by hand and put it into a bottle… looks good…
next I took the rest of the stalk-free parsley and bagged it… six bags went into another and went into the freezer…
it will be interesting to see which type I like the best;-)…

found an interesting grape tomato recipe on Instagram…
gave it a try… it used grape tomatoes, olive oil, garlic and basil…
it smelled delicious while it was baking…
then it went into ziplock bags and into the freezer for use in sauces although I think it might be nice as a bruschetta…

had a delicious supper on Tuesday…
visited the Wolseley Farmers Market and got some lovely items…
flowers; a beautiful pork chop; green, yellow, and purple beans; garlic; small new potatoes; little eggplants; free range eggs; an acorn squash; and a cob of corn…
cooked up, cooled and reheated the potatoes… then warmed up some chicken wings from the night before and boiled some of the beans…
yum…
looking forward to more delicious meals from this bounty…
