Monday’s shortbread was heart-shaped and tasty;-)…
when I was looking at memories, I discovered that many years ago I also received something heart-shaped on the sixteenth;-)… and both from the same person, lol…
it is Heart month and I dug out the hearts from various spots around the house and put them out…
the stairway came out quite nicely;-)…
every time I go up or down the stairs, I am reminded of my beloved…he dealt with a number of heart issues over his last few years…
he had been in good health, until a virus caused serious cardiomyopathy and later he had a quadruple bypass… all of that before he was finally taken with a heart attack… his father also died from a heart attack…
this month I will be making a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in celebration of our wonderful life together…
this morning I watched a couple of bunnies on the deck looking for something to eat, so I tossed out a few carrots that I broke up for them…
I checked back a bit later and discovered one enjoying the treat…
reminded me of the bunny in the den… it is one of those Build-A-Bear animals that the boys and I had made when my beloved had his heart surgery…
the staff in the cardiology unit had recommended a pillow for him to hold against his chest when he coughed and we thought the bunny would be great… it worked well and he liked it;-)…
it wears scrubs, although a few pieces of the clothing have gone missing, lol…
it is a sweet reminder of a difficult, but special, time…
I’d had a conversation with a friend about how great my sugar cookies tasted… I’ve made thousands of them over the years, mainly when the girls were in school… I would produce cookies for their classrooms for each and every holiday that occurred…
she suggested I might like to make some for Valentine‘s Day;-)… and also volunteered to lend me a heart-shaped cookie cutter…
I thought I had one so didn’t take her up on the offer…
on Sunday I decided to make them and discovered that I did not have the appropriate cutter…
I went online, found a few different sized heart templates and made a cardboard heart-shaped template…
then I made the recipe and laughed throughout the whole process because it didn’t seem familiar at all…
it took a while as I used a knife to outline each one, but they came out pretty good…
I’d given away all the food colouring and sprinkles a while ago, thinking I wouldn’t need them…
the cookies look rather plain… but taste delicious…
then I had some fun packaging them up for a few gifts…
what a difficult day… i never know when one of these days will come along…
I’m a bit worn out from recent events so that may have exacerbated the feelings…
anyway, I blubbered throughout the morning at the office… my colleagues were all so kind…
I left after lunch and went to The Stoneware Gallery and found the cutest heart shaped bowls…
picked up bannock and rye bread from La Belle Baguette, which made me happy because they’ve been out of the bannock every time I’d stopped by previously…
filled up the car and got home in time to have a lovely afternoon nap…
looking forward to my first Friday off in many weeks…
today I made a pilgrimage to the statue that represents the women who served in World War I and II… it is located close to many other war memorials down by the legislature…
it was very cold out and my fingers were frozen by the time I was finished taking photos…
it was heartwarming to see that someone had drawn a heart in the snow right beside the monument…
my mom was part of the organization that made sure this reminder of women’s place in the wars was visible…
my final action before leaving was to remove my poppy and leave it at the foot of the monument…
