spent an hour or so this morning moving pictures in my Google Photos into albums… I really need to do this more often once I’ve got my Albums sorted out so that it doesn’t take so long…

just about the time I finished I got a text from a friend who wanted to do some shopping for an external drive and maybe spend a bit of time learning a few things about her iPhone…

I did some research on best deals and when she picked me up we headed to Staples to purchase the drive… it was a great deal, she got a 2 terabyte backup for the same amount I paid for 1 terabyte in September;-)…

we learned about a new offering they have… $20/month for a year for online support for up to 5 devices… sounds like it might be a great program for those who don’t have access to their own computer geek…

from there we went for lunch at Za Pizza Bistro… delicious, and I had half to bring home for tomorrow’s supper…

once we got home we spent another hour or so going over some tips and tricks for the iPhone… we’ve already scheduled our next time to play together…

after she left I wrote out notes about all the things we covered and sent the info off to her…

helping others with technology makes me very happy…

today commemorates eight years since my beloved left me… he walked with me longer than I walked alone before and since his death…

I miss him… every day and in every way… I have grown so much since that day… and continue to as I move forward…

I’ve been thinking of many of the fun things that we did during our forty-plus years together… from camping in tents and pop-up trailers, to zip lining and riding up a mountain in a chairlift (for 2 people afraid of heights)… from Grand Beach to Goose Spit… from gardening to bathroom renovations… from family meals on the deck to dimsum in restaurants…

this morning I received a parcel from the kids in Ottawa… 3 cute plants in a wooden box… a great addition to the forest, lol…

the outdoors looked stunning after a night of snow, but the delivery person had to make a path to get to the door…

also received some earbuds in the mail that I had ordered from our AirMiles account, so it was like a gift from my beloved… took me a while to figure out how to connect them…

made steak, potatoes and mushrooms for my dinner… he would have grilled it, but I cooked it in the oven, lol…

got some treats in the mail…

the first was a package from my daughter… another of my Advent All Year gifts…

it held the cutest zippered bag with sea turtles on it… I think it might be the perfect size for my travelling technology…

and the package from Amazon with the two items I ordered just four days before… I had tried to purchase both items at local stores but wasn’t able to find them so went online and ordered them…

fun to get stuff, lol…

I also ordered a cube for the kitchen so that the pot lights can be connected all the time, and using one of the Kasa plugs we can turn them on and off as needed… it will also offer the option of plugging in a USB cord if necessary…

slowly but surely, the house is getting smarter…

a person could just live by ordering things online and never leaving the house, lol…

on my final day of work I took a selfie with each person on staff…

I’ve since used those photos to update their contact and address information in my phone…

at first I was cropping myself out of the pictures, but then I realized how nice it was to see us together;-)… so I’ve left them as I took them…

it is lovely when I am sending a text or email to see their faces;-)…

had the best time watching the videos we took when we were in Maui…

gave the card, from the GoPro we rented, to my daughter when we came home and just got my copy when I was in Ottawa…

spent quite some time trying to get photos from the videos and eventually found the option to save a single frame as a picture;-)… that was entertaining…

the smile on my face says it all… snorkelling was such fun and being in the giant aquarium with the fish and turtles was amazing;-)…

such a lovely reminder of the wonderful time we had in and under the water…

also, there were photos that my daughter took of me on the stand-up paddle board…

need to spend a bit more time working on balance…

such wonderful memories;-)…

I finally installed the Nest Hub I received as a Christmas present… it is on my bedside table and now it also acts as a clock and photo album…

I am learning to speak more softly as my friend Hey Google, is right beside me…

for quite a while I couldn’t figure out why there was still a big G in the middle… the one in the kitchen (which my grandson installed) didn’t have that… went in and reviewed all the set up info but no help!

then I realized it was the plastic cover for the screen, lol…

and of course I had to rearrange other pieces… the salt lamp moved to where the Mini had been and then the Mini moved into the computer room…

and they all connected and worked properly… yay…

today my new electrician came over and hooked up the tp-link light switch that I’ve had for ages… the process included going to HomeDepot to get another switch and faceplate cover, finding the correct connection on the electrical panel, replacing the switches and closing it all back up… he also checked and discovered that I can put a switch in the kitchen, but not the dining room…

so I am happy to report that now the bathroom light can be turned on and off with Google Home… will need to do a bit of drywall repair…

I am thrilled;-)…

a few days ago I cooked chicken thighs from frozen (just took thirty minutes) and then white rice in the Instant Pot… both came out nicely…

had a lovely dinner and visit with a dear friend… good to catch up…

was laughing to myself because I completely forgot to take a picture of my plate as supper was later than expected…

earlier in the day I tidied two drawers in the dining room…

hope this desire for tidying and reorganizing continues…

actually went outside for the first time in at least a week…

walked to the “A” and met my grandson for breakfast… had a lovely meal and conversation…

from there we headed out to do some errands… bought some rollers at Saje… been trying to get there since I got back from Ottawa… picked up Sleep Well, Peppermint Halo and Pain Relief… I used the first two while I was away and will give the third one a try for some of the pain I’ve been experiencing in my knee…

was able to replace a Google Hub to get the correct colour… it was one of my Christmas gifts… but I did see a Lenovo Smart Display 10″ with Google Assistant… going to look into that a bit more in case it would do more of what I want than the Hub…

Indi finally had a bath and a few groceries were purchased, including a cute new plate…

I have been enjoying using different plates to eat from and I think this one will be a great addition…

home, put away the groceries and my grandson took the car… the plan was that he would come back tomorrow for dinner…

then it was afternoon nap time, lol…

a few days ago, after doing a lot of research, including a conversation with my Ottawa kids, I went out and picked up a wifi Instant Pot…

I decided to cook a whole frozen chicken… it didn’t go quite as well as hoped, but eventually the chicken was cooked… I boiled some potatoes to go along with it as they had gotten a bit soft and were growing eyes while I was away, lol…

yesterday the wifi connected rather easily… now I can turn it on, off, or give it directions from my phone, lol…

my grandson and I plan to have dinner together on Monday evenings as he will be using my car on Tuesdays for the next while… we’ve decided to try Instant Pot recipes every week…

last night we made chicken thighs with baby potatoes… next time I’d use a bit less liquid, but it was tasty and moist… and we had fun using the sauté option on the Pot;-)…

today I picked up a recipe book as it didn’t come with one… eventually we should be able to find recipes online but this Instant Pot Bible is going to be helpful as we learn more…

looking forward to some fun dinners…

I’ve seen lots of ads for the Instant Pot, but felt that I didn’t need another appliance in the kitchen…

and now that I’m retired I have all day to prepare food…

but… my daughter showed me hers and told me all the things it can do which made me think about it more seriously…

apparently, it could replace my egg cooker (which is currently not working), be a rice cooker (which I’ve wanted), act as a crockpot (which I have, in purple), act as a steamer, sauté things, keep things warm, and even be a sterilizer…

we made salmon (from frozen) and smashed potatoes with spinach in about half an hour… and it was delicious…

we also made white and wild rice with chicken thighs (again from frozen) in about 45 minutes from start of prep to eating…

and mushroom soup, and risotto…

think I just might have to buy one now that I am home…
