been noticing that how we use our time has changed in this covid-19 period of our lives…

apparently I couldn’t have started my retirement at a better time…

in conversations with friends we’ve talked about how it doesn’t really matter what bedtime we have, because for many of us, we don’t have to get up at a certain time…

last night was an example for me… I went to bed at 8 in an effort to get rid of a nagging headache… I woke up around 1, still had the headache, and couldn’t get back to sleep so eventually I got up, had a hot tub and spent a few hours reading in the living room…

there was a full moon so I spent a lovely few minutes with my camera and tripod taking photos…

finally around 5:30 I went to bed and slept until 9:30;-)…

just saw this post on Instagram from @canadianchocoholic… an example of changing times…

as emails come in from banks and other organizations; tv ads mention options to delay payments; the government continues to come up with ways to assist businesses and individuals in these crazy times, I truly am blessed that my home is safe, my income is secure and I don’t need to leave for any reason…

time is fluid…

today, I got dressed, lol… I know that is a big deal for me and a lot of you, I’ll bet… not having to worry about anyone coming to the door makes pjs perfectly acceptable all day…

in the morning I cooked spaghetti and let it cool down so that the sugars would fly through my system when I warm it up…

looked in the fridge and found part of a jar of spaghetti sauce which I used as a base for my sauce…

the addition of spices, A1, ketchup, and soy sauce, with time to mingle together, makes for a tasty addition to the spaghetti… also added some frozen meatballs to get in the required protein… smelled lovely as it was simmering…

while that was cooking, I went out and shovelled between the front steps and the driveway… snow seemed heavier than in the backyard yesterday, lol… and my back is not so happy just now;-(…

my shovelers came by this morning and did the driveway and sidewalk (but not the connecting area)… very happy they were able to get that done as it needs to be clear for the mail carrier… and Tuesday my grocery order should arrive as well…

supper was tasty and there is enough sauce and spaghetti for two more meals… yay…

seemed like a full day;-)…

rather proud of myself… I have barely done anything for ages, but today I was able to accomplish three things…

first, I went into the backyard and shovelled a path to the hot tub… my shoveler hasn’t been by… likely he is staying at home like everyone else;-)…

being very careful of my back, I worked slowly and made sure there wasn’t too much snow in each shovelful… now I can go out to soak my back if I want;-)…

came in, had a break, and then tidied the hallway bookshelf… I’d organized it back in 2014… made me laugh when I realized it was that long ago…

finally, I redid the living room table drawer… put sea shells in two of them and left the others as they were… one has all the retirement cards and the other has a number of pictures and maps from our trip to Hawaii…

looks good…

pleased with all that got done… maybe I will keep on getting things done;-)…

my daughter sent me a calendar wth daily yoga for April, so this morning I decided to do some… I got an old yoga mat out, arranged my phone so I could see it from the mat and started the video…

unfortunately I twisted my back in the process so I’ve had to be very careful with everything I’ve done for the rest of the day…

since the girls were little I occasionally end up with a hurt lower back… sadly, it usually takes ages to return to normal… there’s never an obvious action to cause the problem… it just means being careful about standing for too long and twisting the wrong way when sitting…

my solution today has been to quietly sit in the living room and read… so happy I found the books on Kobo…

for a good portion of the day it snowed and late in the afternoon the sun came out and it looked beautiful with everything covered in snow… especially as I didn’t have to leave the house…

as I was sitting and reading I looked out to see the most beautiful sky…

seeing this stunning view was a very special moment, which I enjoyed…

I love scones and have a friend who makes the best ones ever… of course, she can’t make any for me just now…

have had a recipe for tea biscuits up on the cupboard door for weeks…

last night I finally made it and had biscuits for my supper…

and a late night snack…

and my breakfast;-)…

and possibly another late night snack;-)…

unfortunately I should not be eating this much bread all at once, but tea biscuits need to be eaten while they are fresh… right, lol…

clearly they were delicious, although not as good as my friend’s scones;-)…

had a wonderful day outside yesterday…

topped up the hot tub and added chemicals to it…

found my gardening gloves and planted an avocado…

although it is still messy on the deck, I sat in the sun and read for a while…

noticed that there is actually water in the pond;-)…

Spring is really coming, yay…

interesting weather today… I took pictures between 8 and noon as the snow came and went on the deck, lol…

actually got dressed… put on a long dress that I picked up on Maui last April…

flowers and turtles brightened my day…

I also ordered dinner in… this is the first time I’ve done this since I got home in January… was very careful when I brought in the bag and removed the food… this is what I had for my dinner…

since then I have washed my hands many times and been very careful not to touch my face…

I ordered a couple of items so will have four or five meals to take me through the next week;-)…

was also able to order groceries that will come in about a week and a half… the system is overloaded so I am pleased to get on the list at all…

I’ve noticed a few things during this time of social isolation…

but I do think that sheltering in place – words used in the US by many – feels like a kinder description, although maybe not as clear for those who are not paying attention to the seriousness of the situation we are all in…

I have been isolating since I returned home from Ottawa in January as I recovered from a very intense final six months before I retired… of course I was still able to go out, but mostly I stayed home…

I did get to see my boys a few times, so that was lovely…

one of the things I’m pleased to see is a family that has been playing street hockey in front of my house a couple of times… haven’t seen kids (and their parents) out on the street getting some exercise for years;-)…

the other thing is about being told to stay at home and how it makes you want to go out… this reminds me so much of times when I’ve been told what I should and shouldn’t eat, and how all I could think about were those things!

when our girls were little I had to have access to the car, although I rarely went out in it… just knowing I could made being at home much easier…

we must stay home to protect everyone…

technology is certainly helping us in these crazy days…

the groceries I ordered online from Save-On-Foods came right at the time they said… the delivery person called ahead to let me know they would arrive so it gave me a chance to ask a few questions…

usually they bring the groceries into the house and have you sign a form…

the new process is that they drop the bags on your front step… once they are back at the truck and see you bring in the groceries they sign the form for you… while he was describing the new process he advised of the substitutions they had made…

I thanked him profusely for providing this great service for those of us older folks, particularly as I currently have a cold which is making me exceptionally careful…

it is a new world we are living in…

after a conversation yesterday I had an urge for popcorn…

I love theatre popcorn a lot and sometimes eat the entire bag before the movie even starts, lol…

I used to have the bags that were nuked, but now I make it in the microwave in a glass measuring cup with a cover and put a tiny bit of oil on it when it is popped…

last night I decided to make some and poured butter on it as a treat…

you have to pay attention when it is cooking… if the popping slows down too much the popcorn burns…

as I was preparing it, I remembered doing an event with my dad at his work… I was maybe twelve… he had arranged for a popcorn cart and we made the popcorn fresh for the guests… it was fun…

great memories…
