someone recently talked about taking the time to enjoy eating, whether it is a snack, a meal, a treat…

tonight I had shrimp with cocktail sauce for my dinner…

while I was eating, I was remembering…

many years ago I flew to Florida with a dear family friend on vacation… I was there in case she had any problems with her health… we had a wonderful time and I enjoyed every minute with her…

one of the things you could do there was order cooked shrimp while shopping at the grocery store… while you shopped they were boiled and bagged for you to take home fresh… many evenings we peeled these delicious cold shrimp for our dinner as we discussed our day and life in general…

the other special memory was when we were in Hawaii last year and went to Shrimp Hale… it was a little restaurant in a strip mall just a short walk from where we were staying that we just happened upon…

the shrimp were boiled, butter, garlic and fresh lemon were added, and it was brought hot to the table in a plastic bag… we were given plastic bibs and gloves… the shells just went onto the paper on the table… it was such fun and so delicious…

such wonderful and special moments and memories… how blessed I am…

made my dinner taste even better…

I’ve had this cute little bag since a visit to Alaska in 2013…

I usually use it to protect my camera in my purse… sometimes I’ve worn it cross body when I’ve needed to carry my phone, without using my hands, or if I don’t have pockets…

a few days ago I figured out how to wear it around my waist…

added another fastener to it which makes it much easier to clip on and off…

in these last few years, being on my own, I have felt it more important to have my phone close at hand in case I trip, fall, or need help for some other reason…

going to be much easier now…

this morning I had to drive myself to work… missed my carpool buddy…

was surprised when I opened the back door to find a bag hanging from the handle… then I remembered that my daughter had said a friend was going to drop something off… it had completely slipped my mind… particularly as I am usually coming in the front door now…

my technique when I drive out of the garage is to stop and make sure the overhead door closes all the way before I drive away… that way, when I get down the street, or halfway to the office, I won’t freak out wondering if I closed it…

while I waited I enjoyed looking at the Joy hanging in the car… for whatever reason it was rocking and rolling a bit… brought a smile to my face…

good start to a foggy morning…

late yesterday afternoon it poured in St. James… apparently not necessarily in other parts of the city…

it was coming down so hard when I arrived home that I put a large IKEA bag that I found in the garage, over my head…

I took a video of the downpour but it wouldn’t upload…

the pond filled to overflowing and then the pumps stopped… there was so much rain that it tripped the GFI… once the weather improved I went out and pulled the plug out, reset the button and plugged the cord back in… happily the pump started and the waterfall began running… and I wasn’t electrocuted… I texted my son-in-law to say I was still alive and he laughed… hmmmmm…

same thing when I got home tonight… poured like crazy for an hour or so in the late afternoon… we need the rain, but I would like it to rain during the night…

was going to wait till the morning to get it turned back on, but just ran out and got it going again..

last night the Ottawa kids went out to a New Year’s Eve party…

before they left I gave them a bag I’d packed with a few items so that when they arrived back home after midnight my daughter, who has dark hair, could first-foot the house…

I had packed an orange, small bottle of Baileys, a few chocolates and a good sized chunk of coal…

when the girls were eight and ten we had taken a trip to the East Coast and had gathered coal along one of the beaches there… we still remember the fun we had that day… over the years we have used that coal to first foot a number of places, lol… I think I might be down to the last piece…

I had fallen asleep before they returned home and they had to call to wake me up so that they could get in…

I was surprised with a different bag which had the coal, orange, chocolate and a number of other items which they had read up on and included in the first-foot bag…

there was a piece of evergreen, a nearly finished salt mill they’d taken from the kitchen, crackers, a bag of candy coal, some nuts, cash and some coal body scrub…

took a picture this morning of all the goodies…

they had been planning and collecting what would go into the bag since they arrived in the city, lol…

seems like pretty good luck to me…

wonderful evening…

supper out with my dear friends… we went to Pizzeria Gusto and had a lovely dinner…

shared lobster risotto and roasted brussel sprouts… and ended with half of a chocolate tart… delicious…

we enjoy one another’s company and always have things to share…

dinner out was to celebrate one of our birthdays… we have a birthday bag that goes from person to person…

we have used this bag for many years and it has been repaired a few times… but the fun when we pull it out for the next person’s birthday is just wonderful…

the birthday woman wanted to eat on a patio and we thought we’d picked a great spot, but then discovered it didn’t have an actual patio where you could eat, lol…

took numerous emails and texts to work out our plan, but we did…

it was warm but not hot on the patio and, as always when we gather, time flew by and we had lots of fun…

dropped off at home and spotted these irises blooming…

nearly missed them… it was serendipitous that I stepped out onto the deck and walked just far enough to see them…

a final special moment to end a very special evening…
