neighbour…

since we’ve lived in our house, there have been four owners of the house next door…

when we moved in, the young couple were newly adoptive parents and then had another little one inside of eight months, so moved to a larger house close by…  we became friends and she cut my hair for years after they left…

then came our dear friend Ellen and her husband… they lived in the house for about 25 years and became family… looking after the girls, giving us breaks at mealtimes, babysitting on a regular basis when we went bowling, sharing meals, being a sounding board… we built a gate in the fence between our yards, lol… really missed her when they moved to a seniors complex… she died not long after that in 2009 and we spent a wonderful afternoon in the garden with friends celebrating her life…

then an older single woman moved in for about a year, followed by two young men… cousins who were both pilots… last year one got married and they recently had a baby… we didn’t connect that much with any of them…they moved out on Saturday…. 

the house is empty as it waits for the next owners to arrive…

wonder who will move in… hope we connect…

woke up with a sore throat, which was unfortunate as some young friends were coming over about 9:30…

we had a lovely visit and I took these pics as they were leaving…

then I had a nap…

picked up by a friend, had lunch and went to a play at PTE… this one was called Mom’s the Word… 

it was cute and funny…

by the time we left the parking garage it was dark, sigh… got this shot of the house as I walked up to it… it really was dark…

still have a sore throat…

spent a good portion of the day thinking about my dad… he was born on November 18… took this photo of a page in Then to Now: The History of La Salle, Manitoba…

like so many veterans, Dad never talked about the war… this article is the most I ever learned about his time in the service…

in his youth he was quite an athlete, and although he struggled with lung issues from the time he returned to Canada, he always loved sports…

I remember going to many events at the  arena to watch with him… he encouraged everyone… didn’t matter if they were our team or the other… if someone did something good, he clapped and cheered… and I still do that… what a wonderful life lesson…

a few nights ago I was invited to my grandson’s volleyball game… for the first set he was on the sidelines cheering on his teammates…

later he did a great job serving…

this shot came out kind of cool because he moved so fast, lol… 

my dad would have loved watching his great grandchildren play any sport… 

it is from him that the most important question I always have for the boys is did you have fun?

some wonderful moments today…

the sky was stunning as I headed downtown… there were a few clouds but the light on them was just beautiful… having to drive means I often don’t get the pictures I would like…

I took in a box of children’s books that had been hanging around the house and watched with delight as three colleagues found treats to take home for their little people…

as I was driving down a street in Charleswood tonight I came across a deer in a yard just quietly standing there…

ended the night with purple hair…

hasn’t had any purple in it for weeks so it was a wonderful treat to have it back…

been working with a lot of difficult technology issues over the last few weeks…

makes me happy when my own technology is working well, lol…

when I was in Atlanta with my daughter in June she had this cool gadget that would let you upload photos from your camera directly onto you iPhone… as soon as I got home I picked one up at the Apple Store and carry it with me all the time, along with my camera…

I’ve also been starting to use eTransfers… my credit union has just started to take them… my kids and friends are starting to send me money and I even know how to send it to others, lol… it is very cool…  

a young  friend commented on how well my big girl pants are fitting when we discussed a recent eTransfer, lol… she is a technophile as well…

yesterday morning the sky was lovely…

a quiet day with a few chores around the house…

kids came over for supper and we had barbecued pork chops… tasty…

my daughter made a very nice apple crisp for our dessert…

then we drove over to the Park and did some Pokémon Go hunting… lovely walk in the dark around the Riley Duck Pond and by the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden…

the super moon was so big and beautiful… happy that we had lots of time to admire it because tonight the sky doesn’t have a single visible star in it… lots of others out Pokémoning too…

a large buck ran right past us as we were circling the Pond… amazing…

lots of spectacular views…

been enjoying the ChefsPlate meals… they’ve worked well and may even be saving me a bit of money as each one provides two meals for me…

have learned a few tricks in the process… and I’ve also tried things I haven’t eaten or cared for before…

this one included orange zest…

didn’t think I liked zest of any kind but I’ve had three recipes with it, and enjoyed all of them…

even liking the spicy recipes…

the last set of meals that came had an issue, lol… 

the recipe was supposed to be for Hawaiian Coconut Chicken, and I got the recipe card and the chicken, but all the ingredients that came in the bag were for Steak and Garlic Hasselback Potatoes… kind of sad because I was really looking forward to the chicken…

emailed and they sent me the recipe to make what was in the bag… I picked up a piece of steak and made it for my supper last night…

cool tip for the mini Hasselback potatoes was to cut them on a wooden spoon so they weren’t cut right through…

came out nice… even enjoyed the roasted peppers and olive herb salsa…

was pleased with their quick response and they also gave me credit for a meal…

excellent customer service…

today I went to the Formal Gardens at the Park to walk the circle… haven’t been moving much for the last few days and really needed to get some exercise…

the shapes of the trees stand out now as there are no longer leaves on them…

this beauty was covered in red berries…

the sunlight and shadows were quite stunning…

wonderful to be walking in the sunshine although only managed two laps, not my usual three…

had to slow down now and again but on the whole my back was behaving…

picked up some groceries on my way home and stopped by the floral department to take a few pictures…

watched the Remembrance Day service from Ottawa this morning and spent some time thinking of my parents and my beloved’s father who were all in the services, and my son-in-law who is currently in the Air Force…

brought home my flowers from the office yesterday and have been enjoying them all day…

had some fun taking pictures this afternoon…

as the day has progressed my stomach has become more and more unhappy… 

really, back and stomach… enough…

hoping for a better day tomorrow…
