confused…

last week the cleaning company got a little confused and they came on Friday instead of Wednesday…

it always takes a bit of time to be sure everything is tidy for their arrival… when they didn’t arrive on Wednesday at the designated time, I called and left a message, but didn’t hear back…

Thursday I called and left a second message, but again didn’t hear back… this is not the norm with this company so I was starting to worry about them…

Friday, first thing in the morning I got a call… due to a few strange happenings, both of my calls had been missed and their scheduling app had a few hiccups, so they now had me scheduled for noon…

I ran around and did a final tidy and they arrived a few minutes early… they did a great job of making the place nice and shiny…

the bed always looks fancy after they’ve been, lol… very nice for an afternoon nap;-)…

I put a poppy on the front door…

had to search through the containers at the front door to find it as I haven’t been out anywhere recently where I could get a few…

I did this last year as well…

because I am not going out much there isn’t anywhere to wear it… seems like a small act, but the best I can do…

and I made an online donation to the mypoppy.ca campaign…

apparently I chose my mom when I did the same thing a few years ago… made me giggle because I first thought of doing one for my dad, lol… they both served during World War II…

the above information comes from Then and Now, The History of La Salle, Manitoba…

so, I went ahead and made a second donation in his honour;-)…

have to be fair, lol…

cooling off again, so it appears I need to make soup…

recently, it was zucchini basil, with the basil I got in my grocery order…

came out nicely… I added a bit of poached chicken to finish this cup off…

four containers filled and ready for the fridge and freezer…

wonder what kind I will make next…

the past week the sky has been outstanding…

Monday the sunset was a deep red… and within minutes changed to a lovely pink…

Tuesday morning was another stunner…

Wednesday evening, the blues and pinks were lovely…

and Thursday the deep reds were back…

Friday I was a touch late getting a photo, but caught the last little bit of light before the sun went down…

so pleased to have enjoyed all of these views of the sun…

a while ago, as I was sitting on the deck reading, I smelled hot oil…

my neighbour was making French fries for his family… he makes them in the garage so the house doesn’t get all smelly…

it reminded me of my beloved… one of his specialties was homemade French fries…

I really wanted some, and finally made a batch of frozen ones… not nearly as delicious as his, lol… but helped with the craving…

interesting how quickly a scent can take you somewhere…

had a great day on Tuesday…

worked on homemade spaghetti sauce for a good portion of the day…

watched chickadees, nuthatches, and squirrels out the front window…

set the table for supper with the kids and tidied the house in preparation for the cleaners…

finished getting the rest of supper ready and had a great visit over the meal…

and they fixed the fire pit…

early in the summer we finally found the coloured glass for the fire pit…

shortly after that it ran out of propane so we had to get the tank filled…

then it was warm, so I didn’t use it…

a while ago, I tried to turn it on and discovered there was a problem with the ignition system…

the kids figured out the problem, consulted with electricians and eventually ordered the required piece…

took some time, but it finally arrived…

we took out the tank and brought the fire pit into the kitchen… pieces came off and then we spotted a wasp nest… thought they were dead, but then they started to move… quickly it got put outside, spray was applied and it was left out there….

tonight, the stars aligned, and after some serious activity on the deck, it is working again…

yay, yay, yay…

walking in the neighbourhood I’ve spotted a few cool Halloween decorations…

and came across a few fun memories from Facebook…

for many, many years, the kids came over on Halloween before heading out to collect candy, so we could get official pictures… too old for that now, lol…

no snow this year, and it is a balmy 8 degrees Celsius…

nice weather to get a few final jobs done in the garden…

used the leaf blower to clean out the irrigation lines and blow a few more leaves into the beds…

spread some grass seed mixed with compost over areas that were bare…

moved the last of the flower pots into the shed…

and now it is nearly ready… a few umbrellas to be put away and it should be done, lol…

the deck is looking rather bare, lol…

apparently, winter is coming…
