I have learned to appreciate the little moments in my life…

this morning I got this shot of the hibiscus

one flower was fully open and the second flower was just unfurling

I was home a bit early at the end of the day as I had to get my ear checked out at the doctor’s office… I spent a few minutes enjoying the hibiscus…

the second flower had unfurled as well…

I get to walk past the hibiscus, morning glories and mandevilla on my way to and from the garage…

so blessed to have such a special garden…

tonight I followed a car with the licence plate “57TBIRD” all the way along Portage Avenue…

I couldn’t get a photo as I was driving, but I went online and found this photo of a thunderbird

made me laugh a bit as the exhaust smelled terrible… the windows were open and at least one person was smoking a cigarette…

seemed like they were still living in 1957, lol…

also made me think of the thunderstorm on Friday night…

for the last few days I’ve been watching the flickers on the roof of the garage enjoying the berries on the Virginia creeper… it has been a nice distraction as I go up and down the stairs, still using the cane

they seem to gather around this time of year to fill up on ants and berries before heading south…

the other interesting thing about them is although they are woodpeckers, usually I see them on the ground, or in this case, on the garage roof…

been thinking a lot of our dear friend Margaret…

she was my parents’ neighbour and our good friend since I was about fifteen…

I remember our Chinese food parties on payday Fridays… my beloved and I would go over and mom and dad would come from next door and we would have a delicious dinner…

she enjoyed the girls when they came along and loved spending time with them…

the cane I am using belonged to her…

I can remember saying to her later in her life “you have to put the cane on the ground, not just carry it”…

lovely memories…

all in all I think I’ve been making some reasonable choices regarding what goes into my body as I recover from my knee issue;-)…

I am so grateful that we have SkipTheDishes as I haven’t been making many meals over the last week…

I’ve ordered a few times recently… when I do, I always make sure to order enough for a few meals…

last night I ordered from Pho Hoang, a favourite… I ended up with enough for four meals…

I did make a grilled cheese sandwich the other day with some marble rye bread a friend brought from La Belle Baguette

have really appreciated not having to prepare meals, but planning to actually cook my dinner tomorrow;-)…

today marks my 2,500th blog post…

seems like an amazing accomplishment for me…

hard to believe that on December 1st, 2012, I started writing this blog so that I could share about the changes to my life and the things I’ve had to do following the death of my beloved…

there was such a learning curve about all the issues I have had to deal with as a widow

it has morphed into more of a daily journal of my life and what I see around me…

it is also hard to realize that my beloved has been gone for 7 1/2 years – that’s 90 months – 2,751 days… an instant… forever…

although I am truly blessed, I sure do miss him…

been pondering how life can change in the blink of an eye…

there I was on Saturday, going for a walk, and then suddenly unable to walk…

luckily I am recovering very nicely, but spending five hours in the Emergency Room and having to use crutches for just three days has opened my eyes to difficulties that others face…

I expect a full recovery… I am now using a cane, but just for a short while, as my knee improves… and I’m able to take the time to recover properly…

of course I have to remember to take it slow and steady, lol…

anyone who knows me, knows that my body does not deal with drugs (medication, lol) at all well…

since I was small taking any prescription drug was difficult as before the time it should be taken until, my body would start to react… usually it would start to burn my body, or make me feel sick…

over the years I have been able to reduce the amount needed or just not take any… the side effects are usually much worse than the pain they might be blocking…

I’ve been taking something for pain and inflammation in my knee since Saturday… I was using pills that I’ve taken a few times and haven’t caused any problems for me…

a friend went looking for a new bottle as this one was nearly empty and I will likely need them for a few more days… and of course I also need something that is small so I can swallow it, lol…

she went to three or four places trying to find them, but couldn’t…

eventually we figured out that I might have picked up this bottle in Hawaii, lol…

I’ve felt like I burnt my tongue drinking my tea since yesterday, and have just come to realize it is a reaction to the drugs…

maybe the ointment she picked up will work sufficiently on its own, sigh…

simple cup of tea you say… not so much…

wore a small purse to hold my phone, the cup that wasn’t quite empty and the garbage from my lunch…

only used one crutch so I could carry the thermos back… and in the purse I carried sweetener, the empty cup, a can of the milk I use, along with the opener for it…

going to the kitchen, boiling the kettle, gathering the other items and returning to the bedroom takes a huge amount of energy

but did that first cup of tea ever taste delicious;-)…

amazing what you can figure out when needed, lol…

although I still need someone to come and deal with the spider in the bathtub…
